The Sovereign is an Imperium-class Ultra Star Dreadnought which serves as the flagship of Galactic Emperor Tyrómairon of the Galactic Empire of Cyrannus. Constructed in secret in the oort cloud of the Cyroenian system, it is believed that development of the Sovereign began prior to the establishment of the New Cyrannian Republic in 03 NE, and was subsequently completed at some point in the next twelve years. At over 100 kilometres in width, the Sovereign outclasses all known Cyrandian vessels, and acts as a mobile capital from which the Emperor presides over his vast dominion.
Like the smaller Nemesis-class Dreadnought, the Sovereign is large enough to accommodate several Executor-class starships and dozens of Star Destroyers and Battlecruisers, acting as a mobile shipyard and factory ship capable of mass producing the arsenal of the Empire's vast war machine. Upon being unveiled to the Empire, it was revealed that the vessel houses 2,000,000 personnel, the majority of whom are housed in a central city-like structure at the centre of the Sovereign's wings. At the centre of this vast complex sits the command bridge and the Emperor's throne room, where Tyrómairon plots the next stage of his plan for Gigaquadrantic domination.
While the Empire maintains its political capital on Orbispira, the Sovereign—secretly infused with Oikoumene technology—increasingly became known as the de-facto headquarters of the Imperial Order, with Tyrómairon spending much of his time directing the war effort, and contemplating the mysteries of Valin'uvalyë from his vast flagship.
History[]
Constructed in secret on the fringes of the Cyroenia system, the Imperium-class Ultra Star Dreadnought was long rumoured to exist, though it was not until the ship was officially unveiled in the aftermath of the Fall of the Twelve Worlds that such rumours were confirmed. Designed to lead Imperial campaigns of extragalactic conquest, the revelation of the Sovereign's existence did much to quell support for the New Republic Remnant in the aftermath of the Fall, with Republic Space firmly secured under the threat of annihilation.
With Republic Space under Imperial control, through the creation of the Occupied Republic under President Zare'Anne, the Empire ordered the new administration to release all Imperial prisoners of war. While some were executed for incompetence upon their return to the Empire, those who had proved themselves worthy of service were granted their old positions in the Imperial Navy. The most notable example occured when Captain Nirndal, imprisoned since the first battle of the conflict, was released under the Emperor's orders, recommissioned into the Imperial Navy and assigned as the captain of the vast new Imperial flagship.
Largely replacing the Imperial Palace on Orbispira as the true capital of the Empire, over the next several months, the crew complement of the Sovereign reached over two million sentient beings, including enlisted personnel, soldiers, pilots, Imperial nobles, Inquisitors and even Lords of the Phaedric Order. Indeed, while the massive vessel projected an air of invincibility, the most dedicated members of the Republic Remnant and the Cyrandia Resistance knew that the Empire's greatest weakness, arrogance, would always doom their darkest intent.
The Sovereign was unleashed on the galaxy during the Iunius Offensive, when Imperial forces invaded the territories of the Confederacy of Free Planets. Having encountered unexpectedly potent resistance from the Confederates, the Empire deployed the Sovereign against the desert planet Nosiso. Swiftly annihilating the Confederate armada stationed in orbit, the Sovereign obliterated the planet's surface, eradicating the entire population.
Crew[]
Captain | High Inquisitor |
---|---|
Nirndal
Species: Basileus Nirndal is the captain of the Sovereign, having been released from Republic custody after the Fall of the Twelve Worlds by order of the Emperor himself. Though at first overwhelmed by the sheer power at his disposal, Nirndal became acquainted with his position as little more than a figure head, obeying the orders of the Emperor and his emissaries unconditionally. Nevertheless, while Nirndal is honoured to serve as the Sovereign's commanding officer, he hopes that it is merely a stepping stone to his eventual promotion. |
Morhioven
Species: Mortalitas Morhioven is a male Mortalitas serving as an Inquisitor of the Galactic Empire. A highly intelligent and honourable agent of the Empire, Morhioven has the utmost loyalty for the Emperor, and was hand-picked to serve as the High Inquisitor of the Sovereign. In this capacity, Morhioven reports to the Lords of the Phaedric Order and the Emperor alone, occupying a position of power rivalling that of the Grand Inquisitor himself. To the chagrin of the generals stationed on the Sovereign, Morhioven is considered the unofficial commander of the flagship's ground forces. |
Quotes[]
“Why do the rebels persist? Gaze upon the Sovereign, and all hope for their cause must assuredly seem lost.”
- - Captain Nirndal
“Witnessing the power of the Nemesis-class first hand, which the Sovereign dwarfs, demonstrates the Ultra Star Dreadnought could easily interfere with our ability to project hyperspatial superiority. I recommend to engage it with the Assiduity class. Caution advised, probably houses precursor technologies of unknown capacity.”
- - DCP strategic advisor and witness of the Battle of Hypercyclone.
“The Empire is full of twisted surprises, just when we think we can grasp victory they bare down on us again. I hope the Sovereign is the fullest extent of their military power, for it fills me with dread that I may one day have to face this thing. It will take the full force of the Neo-Dark Fleet to stand a chance against this monster.”
- - Throne Miru of the Vanara Neo-Dark Fleet
“Give me a damn break, really? If the Empire really thinks it can win by constructing massive void-beasts to scare us, they have another thing coming. The Entire First Gigaquadrant is against them, and a large ship such as this will only delay their inevitable demise, be it by my Claymore or another's blade.”
“Someone's overcompensating~!”
“Bigger isn't always better. Is nobody going to learn from the TIAMAT?”
- - Flockguide Dan'danh of the Waptoria Alliance of Species
“LMAO WAT AN OVASIZED PIECE OF TRASH. I SWER DA PROPA BIG ROGUE KROOZA IS NOT ONLY BETTA AN MOAR INTIMIDATIN LOOKIN BUT JUS COOLA AN PROBS HAS BETTA GUNZ BECUZ I DESIGNED IT. YO CYRANNUS YOR LUCKY DAT YOR DUM PETTY WAR DOESNT INTEREST US OR DA BOYZ WULD SMASH AN LOOT DIS JUNK KROOZA AN ID USE IT TA BUILD EVEN MOAR ONES TA BREAK DA NEX OVASIZED GARBAGE YA BUILD!!!!”
- - Kal'kuir
“With its extreme size and doctrine of intimidation, this vessel represents Orbispira's arrogance and addiction to inciting terror than its talent for supremacy. Its firepower is impressive but its size works against it in maneuvers and beside the scale of the ships it can service, this monstrosity is no better at power projection than vessels half its size. When I gaze upon the Sovereign I witness a palace bristling with spines, not as a tool of conquest and control.”
- - Lord-Admiral Leondias Drevex
“This ship is impressive... But stupid. Just stupid. Nobody should ever be wasting so many resources on one ship. This shouldn't scare anyone - A single frigate could kill this thing by simply aiming at it and jumping into Hyperspace.”
- - Kavaat
“Paint my hair pink and call me a h'oldo bird if this gargantuan waste of resources will actually prove effective in a war. The reasoning behind Imperial design philosophy will always elude me.”
- - Venoriel
