The Dragonfly-class vessel is a recently-designed Nivenian vessel, designed to fill a novel role in combat - using the kinetic energy of the enemy against them. To do this, the Dragonfly-class ship can deploy massive unfolding sheets of cellophane around itself to destroy enemy missiles, fighters, and even projectile weapons by using their own kinetic energy - very much akin to an inexpensive and disposable Whipple shield [1]. This works as the highest known heats of vaporization for materials such as tantalum hafnium carbide are still below the kinetic energy of a projectile moving at 4 km/s, much less 400 km/s, or 40,000 km/s.
While the ship is almost invulnerable to both plasma weapons and kinetics, it is weak against lasers and electron beans. Due to the nature of this ship's role in combat, it is unlikely that two of these would ever fight each other head-to-head. These ships are extremely difficult to take out, as both plasma and kinetic weapons (the most developed types in the Nivenian Empire) are useless against them, especially with good point-defense support. What they are vulnerable against, however, are large, slow-moving, maneuverable missiles with extremely high yields, enough to knock out the crew with high g-forces.
