Assault Transport walkers were designed to both annihilate entire enemy battalions and to strike psychological fear into the hearts of all those who would question the Emperor's rule. First utilised by the Empire during the invasion of Rambo Nation in 01 NE, the walker was also used in many of the campaigns in the early years of the Empire, during which enemy troops noted the extreme firepower and shielding of the walker while noting that its slow speed was a weakness. In the words of a Cyrandia Resistance trooper, "they're damn near invincible... though not near enough."
Following the collapse of the Empire during the Second Great Cyrannus War, most Assault Transports fell into the hands of various Imperial Remnants, and later inspired the similar All Terrain Armoured Transport utilised by the Legatus.
History[edit | edit source]
During the reign of the United Republic of Cyrannus, Cyroenian System Yards unsuccessfully sought a government contract to supply the Republic Army with a new generation of assault transport walkers, the pride of which was the Armoured Assault Transport variant. However, Republic officials balked at the notion of utilising such destructive tools of war, a decision which was later reversed upon the rise of the Galactic Empire of Cyrannus in 01 NE. The A-AT was first utilised during the invasion of Rambo Nation later that year, where they proved instrumental in capturing the Rambo Capital and forcing the signing of the Nim-Glaré Concordat.
Along with the ASP fighter and the Imperator-class Star Destroyer, the Armoured Assault Transport quickly became one of the most potent symbols of Imperial dominance across known space, being utilised in a vast variety of roles throughout the Empire, such as transporting cargo, construction, occupying enemy planets and projecting the Empire's military might in battlefields across the Gigaquadrant.
During the Second Great Cyrannus War, the Armoured Assault Transport's position as the most destructive instrument of the Imperial Army was supplanted by the far larger Heavy Armoured Assault Transport, though few were ultimately produced prior to the collapse of the Empire. As such, Armoured Assault Transports saw continued use in the disparate Imperial Remnants scattered across the Gigaquadrant. A variant of the design, the AT-AT, was later deployed by the Legatus, though it is slightly smaller than the Imperial variant.
Description[edit | edit source]
Designed by Cyroenian System Yards, the Armoured Assault Transport was the backbone of Imperial occupation forces throughout the Gigaqaudrant, measuring 30 metres in length and 31 metres in height, allowing it to tower over the battlefield. Standard Armoured Assault Transports are equipped with two NB-1 Heavy Laser Cannons located on the side of the "head", and two NU18 medium laser cannons fitted onto the "chin", which coupled with the psychological effect of the walker itself, allowed the design to dominate most battlefield engagements.
The "body" of the A-AT houses a sizable troop bay, capable of carrying up to thirty troops at a time, in addition to speeder bikes and provisions. The A-At is heavily armoured, and is impervious to small blaster fire, though its "neck" is unarmoured and is a weak point often exploited by the Empire's enemies. Additionally, it is notoriously slow, and when fielded alone, is vulnerable to attacks from the sides or the back, which lack any defences other than the walker's complement of soldiers.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
