The Princely Pad is a captain accessory and social tool in the Captain Outfitter in Spore Galactic Adventures. It is the second social tool unlocked in the Diplomat row of items.
Design[]
The Princely Pad resembles a shoulder or upper-leg pad with a somewhat armor-like appearance. The top part is trimmed with gold, bordering the pad as well as splitting the top into two segments. Six tie ends are seen on the bottom of the pad. The color of the bigger segment on top is determined by the detail color of the creature, while the coat color determines the color of everything else except the gold trim.
One of the horizontal morphology sliders determines the overall width of the pad. The other determines the width of the curved end of the pad. A cube slider exists that allows the part to be pushed slightly into the creature or away from it.
Role[]
When equipped, the Princely Pad replaces the Captain's Dance ability with Graceful Waltz. Graceful Waltz acts as a Level 6 Social ability, being used in response to Dancing prompts during socialization with another creature.
Strategy[]
The Princely Pad allows any Captain to dance with great suave during Adventures, surpassing all Creature Stage Foot parts when prompted to dance during socialization, with an effective Dancing Level of 6. For most practical Adventures, the Princely Pad succeeds in these socialization checks, allowing players to not worry as much about social encounters.
It is a great help for captains that have foot parts that don't provide adequate Dancing skills, since groups of feet lack any Dance skills. Especially if the captain in particular has no legs, obtaining Dancing skills would otherwise be impossible.
Some shortcomings of the Princely Pad are not unique to itself, but must be considered: Not all sociable creatures have legs, and of those that do, may not even have feet with dancing. This makes the Princely Pad uncertain with its performance as a social tool, with an Adventure centered around socialization possibly not needing Dancing. Dancing is also not required for the Maxis-created Adventure Campaign levels, making all the benefits of improved dancing exclusive to player-generated Adventures.
Finally is the energy-consuming counterpart from the Bard's equipment, that being the Hop Gogs. At Level 1, the Princely Pad can tie its rival equipment for a successful socialization. When the Hop Gogs are Level 2 or higher, then the Princely Pad loses the exchange. If a player equips both this and the Hop Gogs, the Hop Gogs will override the Princely Pad's effect, leading to direct anti-synergy.
