On the surface it's hot, sticky, predators everywhere and you get bugs the size of cars. Underneath its even hotter and you get magma flows and worms that can tunnel through rock. It's a biologist's paradise!

- Theian researcher

Nova Thei (or Orokholov to the native Growleki species), is the designated capital planet of the Theian Technocracy. A varied world of thick jungle, dry desert and deep blue oceons, on the surface the planet appears to be an unpopulated planet. Despite appearences the planet is inhabited by two sapient species; tribes of Growleki on the surface and a small portian of the surviving Theian population who live in artificially-maintained cities deep within the planet's crust.

Geography[]

Nova Thei is a superearth 1.4x the size of Earth. The land is divided into three large continents and hundreds of archipelago island chains surrounding them. Small ice sheets are present at both poles with the nortern ice sheet being noticeably larger. Deeper into two of the continents are cool desert regions.

Active plate tectonics divide the planet with several mountain ranges present wehre destructive boundaries meet. The most prominent of these boundaries are the Iceshear mountains thet line northern continent's southern coast and the Orimathar trench that runs between the two southern and western continents.

Undreneath the surface the planet is volcanically active. Large networks of caves run undernath, speculated to have been either former magma chambers or tunnels created by lithovorous worms that live deep down. Theian communities who evacuated their former timeline have settled in these caves, creating self-ssutaining communities in the form of underground arcologies. In the short space of time the population has lived here, they have created gleaming cities out of the rock thanks to swarms of nanites.

Climate[]

Convective currents that flow between the continents create channels of warm water that keep the polar regions warm during the witner seasons. A key characteristic of the planet is the high-speed winds that flow between the narrow convection cells. The warm and expansive waters create monsoons regular and hurricanes within the planet's tropical bands. The coastlines are often wet and humid during the summer dry in the winter.

Natives divide the year into two periods: A wet season, where it rains almost constantly for one third of the year and a dry season.

Biosphere[]

The expansive jungles of the planet provide a bubbling caudron for biodiversity. The relative lack of industrialisation on the surface has allowed the biosphere to thrive. Plants grow rapidly in the warm and rain-soaked tropics and clear spots can be quickly overgrown with life. Despite the Theian Technocracy's efforts to catalogue every species of plant and animal, more species are emerging every day and it is believed that as much as 70% of the planet's biodiversity remains largely undiscovered.

The animal life however is often far from harmonious. Numerous carnivorous beasts prowl the jungle both in the canoopy and the undergrowth. The high gravity means that lifeforms are frequently muscular and bulky even in the tropics. The copious levels of oxygen (as much as 35%) give way to large insectoids that can reach the size of vehicles.

Lithovorous burrowing animals create tunnels underground and there has so farbeen no absolute estimate as to how large such creatures can grow.

There is a native species pre-agricultural aliens called the Growleki that inhabit the jungles, plains and desert of the western continent. Although not at the stage of creating copper tools, they are under intense study by the Theian poplation.

Quotes[]

If you ever want to visit, my advice is to keep to the underground locations. The surface is either a protected location or a deathtrap, whichever floats your boat.

- Gerden Kole

A fitting home for the Technocracy. A beacon of technology and sophistication underground, a researcher's paradise on the surface.

- Magistrate Develani Thranga

So this is like Occasus with plants? Ugh.

- Agent Nu

A world fit for the finest of warriors.

- Tyraz

This place doesn't look so ba-- OH MY GOD THAT THING HAS TEETH!

- Hachiman

I'd like to give this place a visit. Maybe wrestle a monster or two while I'm at it.

Trivia[]

  • Nova Thei's landscape was noticeably inspired by the planet Dromund Kaas from Star Wars
  • The planet also bears similarities with Carboniferous Earth, particularly the presence of large insects and high oxygen levels.
  • The planet's image was created by Xho.
