Hominids is an umbrella term for what is arguably the largest collective of species on Narazen. The hominids consist of the various species of elves, men, dwarves, giants, goblins, and orcs that can be found across the world. Of the hominids, the elves and the men are the two most prevalent and common throughout Narazen. What makes a hominid different from the beastmen, the draconics, or other collectives of races is the fact that the hominids are often superficially similar to one another and share the same body plan. Whereas draconics and beastmen can be humanoid like the hominids, what separates the hominids from these two categories is the fact that they have more human-like qualities than they do bestial. Draconics share the characteristics of drakons, while beastmen share the characteristics either of the animal they are associated with or generally lack human characteristics.

HistoryEdit

The earliest records of the first hominids are known to be cave-paintings located across the globe dating from long before the exodus of the gods. The most commonly-held theory of the origin of hominids is the influence of the gods in the lifetimes of early hominids, reflected by not only the common theme of divine intervention by a god/goddess or multiple ones, but also by the J'si beastmen gaining sapience and overthrowing their A'jsai masters which called the Xaela Isles home. Most, if not all, current species of hominids stem from a collective of ancient hominid species that came into being as the first elves, men, giants, and so forth. All of these species were known to have originated on separate continents, though various events such as climate change and displacement by divine forces had led these species to intermingle with each other. As the millennia went on, these primordial species had begun to separate and began inhabiting the various continents and islands of the world. Time and intermingling between species gave birth to a rising number of species of various men.

Cultures such as the Tlokatl and [PLACEHOLDER] would emerge during the days that the gods walked the earth tens of thousands of years ago, the former being a Vanara vassal that would eventually go extinct as a culture but become the genetic ancestors to many dark-skinned races of man across the continent of Graennarune and beyond, the oldest and genetically closest of which would be the Nagan Zhai tribal peoples of the far west of Graennarune.

ElvesEdit

Elves are hominids that often share characteristics of an above-average height, pointed ears, and will often share a proficiency or potential for the arts of magic. The original elven race known as the [PLACEHOLDER] had arisen on the continent of [PLACEHOLDER] in [PLACEHOLDER], before migrating out and intermingling with the other races to give birth to the current species of elves. While not all elves are tall and rarely will an elven species lack their characteristic pointed ears, they will always share more characteristics with the elves than the men.

MenEdit

Men, or Humans, have broader faces, bulkier bodies, and rounder ears compared to their close relatives of elves. Men generally lack the extensive lifespan that the elves have, and their limited lifespan is known to end before their first century of life, though can be longer depending on the race of man. The first race of man, known as the [PLACEHOLDER], arose on the continent [PLACEHOLDER], and over time separated into the [PLACEHOLDER], [PLACEHOLDER], and Tlokatl races and cultures, all of which had diverged and became the modern humans of today.

DwarvesEdit

Dwarves are generally short and stout hominids with broad faces and strong musculature. Dwarves are often under 5 feet/1.52 meters, and are generally dense. Many dwarves live underground or in mountain kingdoms. Dwarves have long lifespans often considered to be between men and elves, and they are known to be among the bulkiest of races even compared to giants. Dwarves originated on the continent of [PLACEHOLDER] in the [PLACEHOLDER], their first species known as the [PLACEHOLDER].

GiantsEdit

Giants are a particularly ancient race of hominids, with the first giants known as the [PLACEHOLDER] having arisen and built civilization long before the other hominids did. The giants are very large and powerful, with the smallest giant no more than 3 meters in height and having considerable musculature on their person. The giants are known to be particularly powerful in the arts of magic with very few exceptions, and giants such as the Thunder Giants and the Cave Titans making their homes underneath the oceans and inside enormous cave systems respectively through their powerful usage of magic. The giants originated in [PLACEHOLDER] on the continent of [PLACEHOLDER].

OrcsEdit

Orcs are known for their bulky and muscular frames and their fearsome appearances compared to the other hominid races. Orcs often have a fearsome scowl. The sizes of orcs vary from gigantic to being capable of being mistaken for a particularly large dwarf, but they are characterized by their unique skin color - ranging from shades of green, brown, and grey being the most common of shades - and the almost hog-like characteristics of their facial structure, with some orcs having facial tusks on their persons. Their often angry and militaristic disposition has given the orcs a particular stereotype of being brutish and often stupid, but this is hardly true, orcs are as intelligent as any other race of hominid. Orcs stem from the [PLACEHOLDER] race that had originated on [PLACEHOLDER].

Goblins are short and usually hairless hominids that are comparable to dwarves in terms of their stature, though certain types such as the hobgoblin and bugbear breeds can be the size of men or sometimes larger. Goblins are often seen as pests due to their high population, extreme range across the continents of Narazen, and their particular aggressive dispositions. Not all goblins are like this however, certain goblins are particularly intelligent and calm. Goblins originated as the [PLACEHOLDER] on [PLACEHOLDER].
