Kyros Machina, (Kryzs: Uzbazki) also known as "The Jewel of Metalkind" in some texts, is a planet located within the Mirus Galaxy. It was once was the homeworld of Validium Crystalius, better known as The Krystaline, along with the capitol of the Dark Shard Imperium, until the Iblizask Disasters 12,000 years ago. It was revered to be the only known natural source of Valadium in the Mirus Galaxy.

Planetary Statistics[]

Kyros Machina is situated within the Kythium System at the second of six planets from the local star, approx. 0.3627 AU in a highly elliptical orbit. Originally Kyros was situated as the fourth planet from Kythium before the Ibizask Disasters, at around 1.167 AU, where the mass ejection of planetary mass shifted the planet’s orbit much closer to the local red star over the course of 4700 years.

KyrosMachinaTerrain

A terrain map of the planet following the disasters.

Kyros’s terrain has rapidly changed over the last few thousand years due to extreme tectonic activity following the disaster, with jagged plains and vast oceans of lava consuming once fertile rocky continents and iron-rich oceans. The planet’s crust is rich in lead, iron and silica, with the core having a higher-than average radioactivity due to the presence of Valadium.

The dense atmosphere of Kyros Machina is toxic and highly corrosive to most biological material due to the mass ejection and atomization of materials released by the Ibizask Disasters, which has bonded to its oxygen. The slight grey tint of the planet’s atmosphere has been attributed to the Valiadium present reacting with sunlight. The high density of the atmosphere and metal content has induced almost constant electrical storms and runaway greenhouse effects globally, rising average air temperatures up to 45 Celsius.

The only preserved feature of Kyros Machina before the disaster is a medium-sized ring system around the planet, which has grown over time. It mainly consists of silica-based rocks, along with debris from the planet below.

Kyros Machina also has two natural satellites. Boriland is a violet/purple small moon with natural volcanic activity that once was colonized by an unknown species approx. 28,000 years ago. The second satellite is Kethsi; an 8 KM asteroid in a geostationary orbit around the North Pole, which is home to the Celestial Obscuration Mechanism.

Native Ecosystem[]

Kyros Machina’s volcanic activity has destroyed almost all known evidence of life upon the planet, but some key facts have survived though the mythical status of the planet; mainly that the majority of all creatures used Valiadium as a biological base, comparable to carbon and silica life forms. Such species would often be part metal, have hyper conductive nervous systems, and be very dense.

It has also been theorised that such creatures would lack a full digestive system, instead using chemical reactions within a digestion chamber with strong alkalis to absorb “nutrients” and mass, with any excretions being mainly gasses such as Oxygen and Hydrogen. Plantlife would also utilise Valadium as a base, as evidence by fossilised Solexa Hexafloris, A branched shrub which consisted of six reflected “leaves” and a central organic stump, which produced photosynthesis.

Validium Crystalius are the only known species to have naturally evolved to sentience upon Kyros Machina, but the Gla’varus where genetically engineered upon the planet using salvaged technology.

Early History[]

Kyros Machina was a Tier Three world formed approx. 5.1 billion years ago. Much like other planets in the Kythium system, where exposed to multiple dust clouts during creation, leading to higher metal and isotope densities. As the planet formed, the high radioactivity and metals created large deposits of Valadium within the crust and mantle; including a super-pure bulge on the super continent of Skecra, which would become to be known as The Iblizask Cradle.

After 1.1 billion years, the planet’s surface had solidified, while the atmosphere has relinquished enough water upon the planet’s surface to produce two major oceans. Life began to develop following a meteor storm, which brought unidentified microbes to the planet that kick-started the ecosystem.

Evolution of the Kyrstaline[]

Validium Crystalius, better known as The Krystaline.

The most notable of the species to evolve on Kyros Machina where the Krystaline; a sentient race of carnivorous metal bipeds. The species vitally depended on Kryos, as the Iblizask Cradle was the only known place in the known galaxy where the species could reproduce, along with being the only natural source of Valadium. The species would dominate the planet and use is as the capitol of the Dark Shard Imperium.

The Iblizask Disasters[]

The Iblizask Disasters where the two natural giga-disasters that defined the end of the Black Shard Imperium, the Kyrstaline and Kyros Machina’s habitable lifespan, along with the birth of the Gra'voris species.

After thousands of years controlling the sector and mass population growth, Krystaline began to notice increased tectonic activity within Kyros Machina, particulate around the Iblizask Cradle. Val’Zeth, scientific advisor to Emperor Flav’ios, begun a massive geological survey to investigate why the activity was occurring. Following two and half years of work, Val’Zeth reported his findings in secret to the Emperor.

The results where terrifying. The extensive mining of Valadium from the rapid population growth, along with the mass adaptation of geothermal plants used to power the COM, had begun a series of chain reactions within the planet, mainly under the cradle, where magma currents where bringing up mass from the core up to it. The radioactive material from the core was reacting with the Valadium, softening it up enough for geothermal heat to bring it to melting point, along with releasing dangerous amounts of ionised gas.

Val’Zeth estimated that within a generation the cradle would be “infertile”; leaving the Kyrstaline vulnerable to extinction.

The Court was gathered together and informed of Val’zeth results, with the intention of developing solutions. Some suggesting terraforming the planet’s poles into volcanic wastes, redirecting the flow there. Geo-engineers proposed moving the cradle miles kilometres away from its initial spot. The Engineering core even proposed to create an energy shield under the cradle to redirect the material, using the ionised gas as a fuel source. Over years, ideas where rejected, either being too time-consuming, impractical or impossible. During this time, the Black Shard Imperium ensured that the general public where unaware of their impending doom, suppressing free journalism and strictly regulating access to the cradle, even against fierce public opposition.

Shortly after the death of Val’Zeth following a short illness, his prediction became true. The first Iblizisk Disaster occurred in 5661 A.S.E, following a short swelling period, the Iblizisk Cradle cracked open without warning, producing a 91 KM fissure that spewed out radioactive Valadium magma, consuming entire regions of land in fire and brimstone, including the twin cities of Zali and Galzora. The resulting ionised gas leak also led to major tectonic reshuffling, resulting in violent earthquakes that devastated Skecra. With millions dead and the only breeding ground for their species buried under miles of volcanic sludge, chaos ensued across the Imperium. Anarchy soon ensued across the inner colonies, which was aggregated further with Emperor Flav’ios confirmed demise from the earthquake. The Court took immediate control of the empire, and overriding the covenant constitution, with plans to begin research creating a viable alternative for the cradle. As this progressed, the pressure of the ionized gas built up further, and the Iblizisk Cradle’s fissure growing under the solidified surface, along with tons of Valladium dropping down back into the core.

The Kyrstaline focused their efforts on genetic reengineering, to create natural reproduction cycles in the species, only to fail as their Valadium-based bodies made them infertile. Then then looked into asexual reproduction; it was a partial success; they could create healthy Krystaline with ease, but the amount of Valaidium following the disaster at their disposal limited new generations to a dozen.

Then Zi’zalum, a “gene architect”, proposed to create a new genus that could naturally produce Valadium deposits, allowing the harvesting of the metal in vast farms, utilizing unused technology salvaged on Boriland’s ruined Grox colony; a Grox Progenitor. Years passed as the project progressed, and with it, tectonic activity began to erupt again on Kyros Machina. Smaller fissures had emerged across the planet, threatening the remaining population. With reluctance, the court ordered the evacuation of Kyros Machina.

Zi’Zalum’s project would eventually bore fruit, with two thousand Gla’varus been engineered and field tested, proven to produce the crystals in sufficient quantities. Zi’Zalum however knew his research was too late; with Kyros about to destroy itself, the empire would surely be decimated by the Pulsar Resistance. The Gla’varys, along with Zi’Zalum himself and the Grox progenitor, where frozen and launched upon The Clairvoyant, to eventually find themselves upon Dion.

Soon, Kyros Machina would see its second disaster. The planet erupted into fire, as pressurised ionised gases ignited and fled into the atmosphere, followed by raging torrents of crust that achieved orbit into the local ring system, while magma bubbled across the continent. Within hours, the planet was mostly engulfed in magma. Only 10% of the population was evacuated in time. All life that was on the planet at the time was incinerated or corroded away.

The following centuries would see the ionized gasses eject matter into the atmosphere. The shift in mass resulted in an uninhabitable atmosphere that sterilized the planet, along with creating a strong greenhouse effect. The ejection of matter also shifted the planet’s orbit, shifting it much closer to the local star over millennia, supporting the volcanic activity with solar winds.

Becoming a Myth & Legacy[]

With Kyros devastated, the Dark Shard Imperium collapsed with the Silver Revolution that followed. The Krystaline where made extinct, excluding Zi’Zlum, who remains cryogenic frozen aboard the remains of The Clairvoyant on Dion. The races of the Silver Revolution soon fell into internal conflict over who would fill the power vacuum, eventually destroying the majority of their civilizations.

The internal conflicts led to the destruction of most records relating to Kyros Machina, the Krystaline and their Imperium, with the few remaining stories of the planet becoming myth. Kyros Machina’s status as a mythical world was mainly contributed to the Celestial Obfuscation Mechanism, which still remained operational on Kethsi, hiding the planet from observation and re-discovery from outside the Obscured Sector.

Traces of the planet would be referred in the reformed civilizations of the sector, such as the Gla’voris, where a line in their empire’s constitution referred to “shining like the jewel of the machines”, while the Marabuda tell fairy tales of the lost world to their young.

Currently, excavations of Dion revealed The Clairvoyant, along with evidence to the Gla’voris Practeoran over the existence of Kyros Machina, leading to debates over the species’ origins and a potential expedition to rediscover it.
