Pets in the pen.

Pets are domesticated creatures that appear in the Tribal Stage.

Pets live in a pen behind the tribe's hut, where they lay eggs that can be collected for food. Pets can also help defend the tribe, such as by killing members of rival tribes who are attacking them. Pets cannot heal themselves and therefore they need tribesmen with Healing Rod equipped to heal them.

A minimum of 15 food is required to domesticate a wild creature. If the player has played the Creature Stage before, all creatures in their pack (except their own species) will become pets when advancing to the Tribal Stage. The player can obtain more than 3 pets by using Summon Flock immediately prior to evolving, the summoned creatures will all be pets in addition to any pack members that are also present.

A tribe can only have three pets. If the tribe already has 3 pets, any further domestication attempt will only make target species friendly, although tribesmen can domesticate them later for free if they lost any pet.

Domestication[]

In order to domesticate a wild creature, the player must have at least 15 food. Then they must find any wild creature on land, set the tribe to social stance, then right-click on the creature. A tribe member will then approach the creature with a bone-shaped treat in its hand and give it to the creature. The tribe member will then lead the creature to the pen if there are still empty slots for pets. During this time, it is at risk of being attacked by carnivore or omnivore tribes (which seldom happens), but if it makes it to the pen, then the creature will become a pet.

Once the treat is accepted, the rest of the creature's species will be friendly to the tribe and can be domesticated again without using food. This relationship will be reverted if the tribe members attack the pet or its species, and once the pet is killed then the species will be scared of tribe members. If any baby or egg of one species is killed, the species will be permanently hostile towards your tribe. However, as long as the relationship does not become hostile, the species can be domesticated again.

Hints[]

  • Try to find species with good combat ability. Creatures with poor combat stats tend to run away when there's a fight nearby.
  • Pets can provide a practically unlimited food source for their tribe. Three pets can lay one platter of eggs every 30 seconds, and when the egg bin is full, it can provide up to 150 food.
  • Baby creatures can also be domesticated, but it's generally not advised since they are too young to fight. They can still lay eggs, however.
    • Domesticated babies also don't seem to grow up at all.
  • Allying with three Rogue creatures prior to the end of the Creature Stage will provide the tribe with three powerful pets with 250 health, they are strong enough to fight against up to 2 tribesmen on their own.
  • Spaceships often arrive during the Tribal Stage and may abduct pets. This can be prevented because the spaceship will always fly around where your chieftain is, so if you don't want to lose any of your pets, try keeping your chieftain away from the tribe for the duration of its presence (about a minute).
  • Never try to domesticate a species with a red face relationship; they will still eat the treat, but they will never be friendly again.
