In Spore, the existence of humans is absent. No game or expansion explicitly mentions humans or their civilization besides out-of-game hints referencing their existence and fate. The most famous of them are the solar system with an uninhabited Earth existing as an Easter egg in the galaxy, and Steve, a probe telling the player to look after Earth. In addition, many icons and achievements such as "Oh the Humanity!" mention humanity. When spinning the galaxy in the menu, a cluster of pictures of the game's producers will appear. The description of some artifacts also purportedly mentions humans.
Outside the game, Maxis team recreated 2008 United States presidential election nominees and running mates: John McCain, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Sarah Palin. In Spore Galactic Adventures, the downloadable adventure, How a Bill Becomes a Law, it parodies United States Capitol and features Barack Obama as a president.
