The Galaxy.

The Milky Way or "Stellar Zoo", commonly referred to as the Galaxy, is the spiral galaxy in which the game Spore transpires. It contains many billions of stars as all galaxies do (however many fewer can be visited in the game). It is only possible to achieve Interstellar Travel in the Space Phase. The galaxy is seen through the Galaxy View, which can zoom out to see progressivly larger portions of it. Eventually as an Empire advances, it gains achievements called badges. Interstellar Travel is achieved by "drives" which allow the vehicle with it to hop from star to star. All the planets an empire has discovered are avaliable in the Sporepedia, a database that consists of all known planets, empires, and species. The Galaxy is generally divided into Systems and possibly also Sectors and Regions.Aswell as stars there are binary systems,Black Holes/wormholes,Proto-Planetary Disk formations, nebulae and more galactic formations.

Government

Although the galaxy lacks a central capital or seat of power, the Galaxy is a federalist republic, with all spacefaring civilizations as members, although the Grox may be an exception. It is not known how much power the galactic government has over empires. The only known law is the Galactic Code which mandates fair interaction among empires. It can be assumed that the government generally allows empires to follow their own paths and enforce their own laws. As such, wars are anything but uncommon.

Planets, Moons and Asteroids

Spacestatus

Cattor, a Planet in Galvopa system.

Among the billions of systems in the Galaxy, only about 100,000 are visitable. Many of the visitable planets are inhabitated, like Bilzac. But many planets are also barren with no life, like Lamstus. The Greevils had a colony on a moon, and it was rotating around a gas giant.

A player may run into another one of their saved games. Looking at the galaxy in space view, you will see a square around a system with the word save. If you travel there, you can alter your other empires planets and have the changes effect the other save. Please note, you can not alter the homeworld of the other save.

Solar systems

Awesome view

Screeble discovers another Solar system.

A solar system is a star and all sattelites that orbit it or are within a reasonable distance. However, since the gap between each star is so huge, features are simply grouped with the closest star, so there is no set distance. Galvopa system is a known Solar system and is the home system of the Screeble species.

"Oh, well, there will be probably well over a hundred thousand. I mean, far more than a player could ever visit. Which is why there is no point to having another galaxy. If there are going to be thousands of stars in a galaxy there is no way that one person in their lifetime could ever visit them all." - Will Wright

When the UFO leaves the Planet, and then the Solar system, the Player will find himself in the very large void of space, however the Player is not all alone. Using the UFO tools (namely the SETI tool) it is possible to find other inhabited Solar systems with Planets at various stages of evolution. The player can travel to these Solar systems and Planets to make contact with the inhabitants.
