What do people think about the idea of removing Darkspore pages from the wiki (except perhaps the Darkspore game page itself)? There is much more content, and more detailed content, on Darkspore Wiki, so the information that we have here is both duplicated and lower-quality. Furthermore (albeit perhaps less importantly), Darkspore does not seem to be very closely related to Spore, besides certain features such as the editing of creatures, the style of certain parts, the sci-fi theme, and of course the name.
I have posed this question on IRC, but a forum topic is obviously better for allowing everybody to comment on the issue. There have been a couple of other thoughts so far. Liquid Ink said, "We should tidy up/finish our Darkspore pages, and put external links to the much more detailed pages at Darksporewiki." I think that plan does have problems; most importantly, getting enough people with the right expertise on board to work on the pages (unless we just plagiarise the content from Darkspore Wiki); also, is there really any point in having the less-detailed pages here when Darkspore Wiki is the more obvious resource for the Darkspore game?
Jo's suggestion seemed to involve having only one wiki, and she pointed out that darkspore.wikia.com redirects to SporeWiki. However, there are two wikis. It is a nice idea, and if people on both sides support it, we could merge the wikis. I personally doubt that would happen - mainly because, if the Darkspore Wiki users wanted the Darkspore information to be on SporeWiki, I don't see why they would have made a new wiki for it - but of course, I can't actually speak for any of the Darkspore Wiki users. A more likely situation may be that we link to Darkspore Wiki on the SporeWiki main page (as they do for us), and perhaps get Wikia to change that redirect.
Does anybody else have thoughts on the matter? Ghelae - (talk) 14:15, July 6, 2013 (UTC)
- I stand by my suggestion of having Darkspore content on SporeWiki, and merging the two. However, if the Darkspore Wiki is adament that they do not want a merge, then at least change the redirect on darkspore.wikia.com. The reason it is easier maintaining 1 wiki is because it means that templates and wiki codes only need to be written once in one place. Another is that it will mean one bigger community as opposed to several smaller ones. Remember of course that Darkspore's community is even smaller than Spore's shrinking community; we'll pretty much be all that's left of a Spore community until EA releases a new Spore game.-- Technobliterator TC 14:26, July 6, 2013 (UTC)
