In order to raise the quality of content pages on the wiki, I have suggested that we introduce a policy for marking and eventually deleting short and "bad" content pages. I have created a {{stub/content}} template. My idea is that when someone finds a page with little text and/or no image, they add this template, together with a date: {{stub/content|~~~~~}} (the five tildes convert into time and date upon page saving). The template adds the page to a list together with the time and date. This way, an admin can look at the page and check which pages were marked more than seven days ago, and delete them.

That's the basic idea. I still want some input though: Is one week enough/too much time? What should the minimum text amount of the page be? What images should we require? Any screenshot or the actual png that can be loaded into the game?

Discuss. CogHammer Ose t/c 00:04, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

I don't think they should require an image. —Preceding signed comment added by TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 01:07, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Well in my opinion even a well made page describing it's subject in depth is useless if the author doesn't add at least a screnshot. CogHammer Ose t/c 09:56, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Some new users may not know how to upload images. And there are plenty of good content pages without images. Wormulon 11:19, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I don't like this new rule about images (although I don't mind the under 500 letters idea). My DCP does exist in my game and I like to write about it, but because I don't know how to add images from the actual game, it could get deleted. I can only add images of my creations, and you find that most users don't know how to add images from the actual gameplay. Its unfair. Wormulon 11:44, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Maybe ones with no infobox and less than 500 letters? Or maybe just articles with more than 1000 letters but no image. —Preceding signed comment added by TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 12:37, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I beleive that for creation pages, like creatures, vehicles, etc, we should require an image but if the original creator does not know how to upload it, we have a problem, right? So, on the stub/content template, we have a little section that tells what they need to add to keep the page (like the deletion template) and if an image is needed, then the template links to a page that describes how to upload the image or a "Image Requests" Special page, just like the Taxonomy Requests. However it is possible that there can be a comprimise and pages with images could have a byte requirement of X while those without have a byte requirement of Y (just so you know, X<Y) Now for other content such as fiction (which will go into the Fiction namespace) like Wormulon's DCP, an image shouldn't be required, but instead just the higher byte requirement, like 1000 insted of 500. This insures that the fiction pages actually tell their story and don't just say "The Galactic Alliance was started by the Florgons. End" I also beleive that the time limit should be raised from a week to 10 days. By the way, Wormulon, first press Ctrl+H. This will get rid of the Heads-Up Display. Then press Shift+Print Screen. The Print Screen button should be right next to the F12 button. This will save the screen as an image, but on your cursor, as if you copied it. When you exit Spore, open up PowerPoint, if you have it. Paste onto a blank slide and right-click the image. Here select "Save As Image" and then select where you want to save it. The rest should be easy. If you need anything else... ask OluapPlayer. ZLogoZagorian Comm/Contrib 12:46, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Zagorian, I would like to take images of my empire in the game! I am not against the idea that Ose proposed, just against the image rule. Wormulon 13:26, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
The creatures I make look really weird, except my later creations and Teffelton, so I didn't upload for Gighib, Hessletife and Gonell. Also I'm making a zoo with my good creations, you can play it there. —Preceding signed comment added by TimeMaster (talkcontribs) 14:15, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Making a guide for how to take screenshots and uploading them would be easy. And this is about content, not fiction. The fact that fiction on this wiki is mislabeled as "content" is the main reason I want to split up the content namespace. This template will not apply to fiction pages, only to pages about things that actually exists within the game. And I think it's not too much to demand that people add a picture of what they write about, as long as we make sure they are explained how to. CogHammer Ose t/c 14:46, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

So there will be no restrictions on Fiction pages? ZLogoZagorian Comm/Contrib 14:56, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I didn't say that. But if there should be, they will be different. CogHammer Ose t/c 15:20, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Ok. Now we all just need to come to a consensice on what the "official" requirements should be. We seem to have decided that creations need 500 letters and an image, but, what counts as a letter? If they have only an infobox, does that count? As for Fiction, I personaly beleive at least 1,000 letters are good. Also, I beleive that time limit should be raised to 10 days, not 7. ZLogoZagorian Comm/Contrib 16:28, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

P.S. I was just thinking that maybe we should put a message somewere on the main page talking about this splitting project and asking (nicely) that no content pages be created until the project is over. This will make it a lot easier on both the content-creating users and on us. Also there should be a message talking about the new quality standards and the seven-day (which I beleive should be ten) limitation along with the requirements. Anyone agree? Hello? Did someone close the forum and not tell me? ZLogoZagorian Comm/Contrib 02:32, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

What to demand[]

The different types of content vary a lot, so we might have to set different demands for different types. Discuss below.

cell[]

I'd like to see at least a short description (how long?) and an image. Understandable if there isn't so much to write about here. Creator might consider just using a section about the cell stage on the page about the evolved creature, if there is one. Using the infobox would be good too. CogHammer Ose t/c 00:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

50 words. Poeringu 22:14, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

creature[]

I'd like to see a proper description (how long?) and an image and/or downloadable PNG. Using the infobox is important too, because of classification and SMW. CogHammer Ose t/c 00:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

building[]

I'd like to see at least a short description (how long?) and an image. Using the infobox would be good too. If short, consider making it a section on the page about the creature that uses it? CogHammer Ose t/c 00:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

vehicle[]

I'd like to see at least a short description (how long?) and an image. Using the infobox would be good too. If short, consider making it a section on the page about the creature that uses it? CogHammer Ose t/c 00:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

planet[]

I'd like to see at least a short description (how long?) and an image. Using the infobox would be good too. If short, consider making it a section on the page about the creature(s) that inhabits it? CogHammer Ose t/c 00:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

flora[]

I'd like to see at least a short description (how long?) and an image. Using the infobox would be good too. CogHammer Ose t/c 00:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

captain[]

I'd like to see at least a short description (how long?) and an image. Using the infobox would be good too. If short, consider making it a section on the page about the race it belongs to? CogHammer Ose t/c 00:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

system[]

I'd like to see at least a short description (how long?) and an image. Using the infobox would be good too. CogHammer Ose t/c 00:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

fiction[]

This needs to be fairly long to deserve it's own page, right? Illustrations are good, too. CogHammer Ose t/c 00:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

taxon[]

Not really a stub policy, but obviously, empty taxon = delete. CogHammer Ose t/c 00:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

adventure[]

Needs a description (how long) and preferably screenshots too. CogHammer Ose t/c 00:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
