Xonexi is a gigantic space station located in intergalactic space, directly at the centre of the First Gigaquadrant. Xonexi has been the centre for intergalactic affairs for millennia, whether or not most of the Gigaquadrant's inhabitants know it.

History[]

Xonexi was one of many megastructures created by an ancient, apparently long-extinct civilisation. There are few of these megastructures left, most having been destroyed in prior conflicts, presumably during wars against the Xhodocto. Other than Xonexi, the only one that is known to remain is Aranexi, originally an artificial wildlife sanctuary before becoming the adopted homeworld of the Radeon, and later being destroyed along with the Radeon civilisation of the Dei'Ar Theocracy.

More than a billion years after the last ancient Scourge that resulted in the eradication of all multicellular life in the universe by the Xhodocto, the station was reclaimed by intergalactic explorers. It became a centre for universal trade and cooperation, and was even used as a secondary base for the original Seven Starr Alliance. However, during the War of Ages, Xonexi (along with Aranexi) was heavily damaged by Xhodocto forces. Once all life on board was exterminated, the demons left, and the station had been almost destroyed. However, its automatic repair systems restored them over the course of the next few years, and Xonexi was soon intact again (but still lifeless). Before long, it was found by pirates, whose efforts restored it close to its orginal condition. The pirates took advantage of the fact that Xonexi was believed to have been destroyed by the rest of universe and turned it into a criminal hub. Over the next few years, various empires worked to reclaim the station from the pirates, and soon Xonexi once again played a major part in intergalactic events. However, it had a far more minor role than before, as the station's new police forces were mostly incapable of removing most of the pirates, and no major governments cared to provide help.

But the pirates' age of control over Xonexi lasted only ten years before abruptly ending. One day, a flotilla of powerful warships surrounded the station and beamed over a thousand soldiers inside. These soldiers were elite forces, and quickly killed every sapient being on the station, criminal or otherwise (although, this was more a case of making sure that all of the pirates and smugglers there were killed than a mindless slaughter). Fleeing ships were shot down by the flotilla to prevent knowledge of the attack spreading to elsewhere. Eventually, when nobody was left alive, the soldiers took Xonexi for their own. These soldiers were some of the greatest (and most emotionless) troops in the Gigaquadrant, and were the ground forces of Majestic. Once Majestic's staff had claimed Xonexi as their new headquarters, they created subspace disturbances in the area, hiding the station from the rest of the universe and making it seem as though it had been lost or destroyed. Only the intelligence organisations that were connected to Majestic knew the truth, and a new space station, Halcyon, was built to replace it and the planet Orathvor (which had been destroyed by the Xhodocto during the Tigris War) as the centre of the new Seven Starr Alliance.

Xonexi survived the destruction of the universe. Afterwards, Majestic began to work more with the Seven Star Alliance's high command, and Xonexi was used as a top-secret military base for both Majestic and the SSA, with Station Halcyon remaining the official and political centre of the Alliance until the Halcyon B incident brought the SSA to an end.

Structure[]

Xonexi's central structure is a large, white sphere, almost twenty kilometres in diameter. Around this sphere are ten concentric rings, each ring being one kilometre wide and a quarter of a kilometre thick, with gaps a quarter of a kilometre in size between them, bringing the total diameter of the station to approximately 45 kilometres. The rings and the station are connected by a Psionic Energy field, and transport between them is achieved by a form of teleportation.

The central sphere was built to house millions of people, and so contains thousands of large rooms around the outer surface for its inhabitants to live in. When it was reclaimed by pirates, though, most these rooms were converted into various entertainment venues such as supermarkets, holodecks, and fast food restaurants. The interior of the sphere was used to support its population, with gardens, temples, and a computer network, all powered by several large generators (apparently harvesting Psionic Energy). This has remained mostly intact throughout its history, with the exception of the times when it was barren and lifeless. In the very centre of Xonexi was a large cylindrical room known as the "Hub". It is not known what the Hub was originally used for, as it had been empty from the time that it was first rediscovered by explorers until Majestic turned it into their HQ.

Each ring contains dozens of large docking bays for spaceships. Ships that are too large to fit inside the rings can dock just outside of them, but it seems as though Xonexi was designed for ships with dimensions no greater than 200x700x1000 metres. The rings also have hundreds of domes on their top and bottom surfaces. These domes can generate powerful energy fields, from deflector shielding to subspace disturbances, and may even be able to function as weapons (it is known that they are responsible for the beams that hold the station together, but it isn't clear if such beams can be aimed in other directions and weaponised).
