Ærd, also called Ursus Prime, is the homeworld amd capital of the Medwedian Democratic Federation and the home of the Ursoids, a race of sentient, bearlike humanoids. Ærd (literally meaning "Earth" in the Medwedian language) is a typical terrestrial world with slightly cooler-than-average temperatures. Ærd's diverse landscapes range from icy deserts to vast farm-valleys and sprawling megapolises; it harbors countless residences and palaces of the Medwedian ruling class.

The Ursovian System, the star system in which Ærd is the fourth planet out of twelve, is located in the middle of the Central Medwedian Cluster, an agglomeration of several thousand stars in the Inner Sectors of the Lower Sagittarius Arm. Its sun is a middle-aged main sequence star of the spectral class F9, slightly larger and brighter than Sol.
The orbit of the planet is roughly circular with a semimajor axis of 174.25 million kilometers.
