Revision as of 03:07, 20 May 2022

The Terrestrial Armed Service is the army of the United Persan Descendants. With a doctrine structured around the use of armored warfare, combined arms, air support, and maneuver the TAS is, while not one of the largest or skilled fighting forces in the Federation of Free States, by far one of the most versatile with an armored fighting vehicle and/or weapon that can be deployed to handle just about any potential military situation that might arrive. As a result it is common to see the TAS deployed alongside other, more specialized, armies in order to help cover their weak points. What the TAS lacks in terms of raw power it makes up for in terms of adaptability and flexibility.

By the far the TAS' most famous weapons are its Mobile Suits, flying mechs that act as something of a hybrid between infantry and armored fighting vehicles such as tanks, and aircraft such as fighter jets or attack planes. Mobile Suits are the signature weapon of not only the TAS but also the entirety of the United Persan Descendants. Resembling great, biomechanical dragons they are as much a weapon of psychological warfare as physical one.

Traits

Doctrine

UPD doctrine is rather strange when compared to many conventional doctrines as the UPD makes extensive use of mechs called mobile suits which act as something of a hybrid between infantry and armored fighting vehicles such as tanks, and aircraft such as fighter jets or attack planes. Despite this focus on mechs the UPD employs a combined arms doctrine that makes use of infantry, armored vehicles, artillery, and most famously air power in tandem with their mechs against their enemies. In general the UPD's doctrine can be defined as a doctrine of maneuver warfare or the use of shock and disruption to defeat an enemy via the decapitation of their decision making. Rather then engage enemy strongpoints directly UPD doctrine looks to use heavily mechanized, combined arms units to bypass enemy these strongpoints and cut them off via the destruction of command and control centers, logistic chains, and fire support to isolate enemy forces so that the UPD can destroy them with minimal resistance. Because of the demands of maneuver warfare UPD units tend to be highly flexible and independent with a decentralized command structure with much on the ground decision making.

The UPD has something of reputation for ruthlessness being as the view their mission in war as to end said war as quickly and efficiently as possible. To this end they tend to seek the in mass destruction of enemy strategic resources to cripple their ability to effectively fight and employ psychological warfare to sow terror through enemy ranks. However, they are not merciless and the UPD has a strict policy of accepting surrender, ensuring prisoners of war are well treated, and avoid civilian casualties when possible. This is another angle of psychological warfare really as by juxtaposing their willingness to treat those that surrender well with the ruthless efficiency they use to deal with those that do that the UPD helps to make enemy combatants more willing to surrender rather then fight to the death, saving lives and resources in the long run.

While many if FFS tend to prefer elite units the UPD tends to opt for decently trained and well built units that can be deployed in larger numbers but are not disposable cannon fodder to be used to bury the enemy under a mountain of bodies like some militaries that play the numbers game do.

Mech Coloration & Decoration

The Persan place a high importance on color and often use it to distinguish their mech's rank, role, and achievements in combat. Colors are divided into a primary base coat which determines rank, a secondary color which determines role, and a trim color used in place of metals. Base colors are white, grey, and black, with white for warriors in training, grey for fully trained warrior, and black for officers. Secondary colors are yellow for army mechs, blue for marine mechs, purple for special forces mechs, green for militia mechs, and red for royal guard mechs. Trim colors are metallic with bronze awarded for meritorious service or non-combat heroism, silver awarded for for exceptional meritorious service or heroism in combat, gold awarded for extraordinary combat heroism, and platinum awarded heroism above and beyond the call of duty, or to those who died or were crippled in an act of heroism. Beyond these colors Persan pilots will often decorate their mechs with bits a pieces from exceptionally powerful beasts or enemy warmachines that they slew in battle, and will paint their mechs with fearsome imagery from terrible beasts such as snarling faces or glowering eyes.

Recruitment & Training

While mech pilots are the face of the Persan military they are far from the most common form of military service. Most of the ranks are filled with various officers, standard infantry, vehicle crews, technician, engineers, and other such mundane positions that are the unsung heroes of the Persan's military efforts as they keep the mechs operational, coordinated, and give the support needed to ensure their success. While most ranks can be filled with anyone with the proper expertise and education to fill the role mech pilots undergo a rigorous training program not only designed to teach them how to pilot a mech but also to form the empathetic bond needed to pilot the mech to begin with. UPD officers, commanders, and generals are highly educated and trained, and are frequently subjected to testing to where they are given an objective to complete in a limited time frame with a set number of resources to ensure that they are able to keep up with alterations in doctrine. Those who are successful maintain their command, while those who are not are allowed to take their career elsewhere such as an advisory role or into politics, or allowed to retire with honors.

  • Common Weaponry: Thunderbolt M-7D Railgun, Vibro-Blade
  • Equipment: Personal Achlysian Shield, Standard Infantry Armor

Persan Hunter Drones are the primary form of infantry employed by the United Persan Descendants. Rather wolf-like in their appearance Hunter Drones are vicious pack hunters noted for their remarkable intelligence for something that the UPD insists is a none-sapient drone (intelligence tests score Hunter Drones at around the same intelligence as an actual dog). While kept on a tight leash by their operators Hunter Drones display a surprising level of initiative and reactivity catching those who assume them to be dumb drones off-guard. Coordinating and working together as a pack Hunter Drones are used to back up and assist UPD mecha in combat, providing supporting fire, recon, and launching assaults' into places the mechs cannon go. While the warriors of the Mendel maybe be associated with their aggression and ferocity, the troopers of the New Republic with their spirit and loyalty, and the knights of the UKA with their honor and training, the Hunter Drones of the UPD will always be associated with their coordination and ruthless efficiency.
