The Khilai are a relatively well established empire of 6800 star systems and a fleet of just over 80,500 space craft. The Khilai wear plate battle armour made from an incredibly robust alloy called Netorium which is created by placing several of the ores found on the planet under high pressure and then immediately exposing them to focussed Void Energy, which is the Khilai's main power source. Many of the battleships and vehicles are also plated with Netorium alloy. As of the late, the Khilai have established their place in the galaxy, gathered powerfull allies, and in turn discovered new enemies.
The Khilai have a peculiar anatomy with large muscular upper bodies and double jointed legs with two sets of knees. They have grey blank skin coloring. The mouthparts of the Khilai pecialises in ingesting flesh and bone, while their saliva produces a powerfull toxin which they can launch out of their mouths. Their powerfull jaw muscles give the Khilai a crushing bite of over 22 lbs (10 kg), though Khilai rarely resort in their sentient state to this primitive method of combat. Physically, the Khilai are quite speedy despite their muscular frames, but it is their endurance in particular which is a spectacle to behold. Khilai bones are very dense, making them denser than water and allowing them to run on the bottoms of riverbeds rather than swim. While Khilai are able to swim, they are not at all evolved for this activity and often need intense training to prevent sinkage and drowning. The ribcage of a Khilai is fused, protecting their inner organs very effectively, while their spine contains much more and much broader vertebrae than it does in many other creatures. Furthermore, these vertebae form many spiny protrusions on the side of the spine which interlock to form an extremely durable backbone. It is estimated that Khilai can survive the full pressure of roughly a 1000 times their body weight on their spine. This feature evolved when the Khilai's earliest anchestors were still the size of small rodents and the megafauna of Kavous still hunted them. Their main predator at the time dispatched it's prey by stomping upon it's prey to break their back, and preventing this was thus highly useful for the proto-Khilai to survive. Thanks to their resilience and robustness, Khilai antonomy is geared towards seige warfare as they tend to do well even without much amenities or resources available to them.
The average male Khilai can lift up to more than 550 lbs (250 kg) and females, although smaller and less muscular, can lift up to 330 lbs (150 kg). Khilai can run at around 34 mph (55 kmph) and can sprint short distances at over 60 mph (96.5 kmph). They can also jump incredibly long distances: the current Xavian record for long jump being almost 70ft. This long distance jumping is made possible by the powerful muscles in their feet and lower legs. This also alows them to jump upwards great hights of 20ft or more. However this does exhaust them. Their powerfull legs alow Khilai to run great distance at high speed, endurance athletes do events the routs of wich go all around the planet, they swim oceans and run the entire length of continents in a matter of weeks. When in combat, billions of years of evolution have led to a pair of hormone-secreting pores that activate when a Khilai is killed, the pores excrete a hormone that enrages and spurs surounding Khilai, driving them on.
The Khilai are located north-east up from the United Knights Alliance in the Tyris Major Galaxy. The empire is a dense cluster of stars, all of which are regularly patrolled and surveyed. All colonised planets are completely self-sufficent and requrie almost no support from the home star system. The exception of this system is in times of war, as all surounding star sytems combine their might into single military force to protect the combatted star system.
As primitive creatures the Khi, as they were then called, were a vicious pack of Bipedal Reptilians who quickly made it their goal to wipe out all other species in their teritory, which in their opinion was the entire continent on which they lived. They drew this border as it apeared imposible to cross the vast body of water that surrounded them and cut them off from the other land masses. Once they had driven the local megafauna to extinction, the Khi progressed quickly, rarely being challenged by the other inhabitants of the island continent. Eventualy, after billions of years of evolution, the Khi were now the strongest and most aggressive species on the planet. The few creatures that had survived the many nest raids now cowered in small caves and under rocks.
The Khi now felt that nests where no longer big enough nor gave them enough protection from the elements. So the Khi began to build primitive structures and started calling themselves, in their primitive verbal language, Khilaar. They also started making weapons, one of which was a set of horns taken from killed wild cretures, which they attached to their wrists by means of leather strapping. The Khilaar continued their hostility towards others by attacking other sentient species and destroying whatever structures they had raised. It was here that their sheer resilience and feriocity was realised. Cave paintings depict wariors with up to three or four spears protruding from them and still being capable of fighting off several other tribe members. After a relatively short tribal period of a few million years or so, the Khilaar's spoken language was one of reasonable detail. Most adult Killar now spoke up to 5000 diferent sounds to comunicate. It is also rumered that the written language of the Khilaar originated in the late tribal period.
Roughly one millenium later, the tiny village of the Khilaar had grown into a city-state. Thus the Khilaar were no more and the Khilai were born. The Khilai now inhabited the whole planet of Xavous and were uncontested by any other species as they had already wiped out the other emerging sentient species milenia earlier. Still there was to be no peace as the Khilai now stood divided. Civil wars soon raged between the different nations which developed one after another. The world war lasted nearly six thousand years but eventually a city by the name of Inoxsh send all their forces to destroy the last rebellions and a democratic system of government was founded. The Khilai remained planetbound for another couple of millenia, slowly developing their weapons and technology. At this point the Khilai's wrist blades were made of the newly discovered alloy Netorium, though they were not yet tempered by Void Energy, and had miniature ion blasters built in to them. The population of planet Xavous was now around eight billion.
After several unsuccessful attempts, the Khilai developed a ship capable of interplanetary travel. This space ship model was called the Mk 1 Zeneth. It was to be the predecessor of the Mk 16 Zeneth, the currently used the fighter class space ship of the Khilai Empire. With their Zeneth ships, the Khilai Empire quickly set about colonising all the profitable planets in their star system. In this time of early interplanetary travel, many new technologys were developed, such as the enormous scientific and weapons reserch facility in orbit around their home star Nexous. The orbital facility is over 12 mi (19 km) from end to end and houses most of the scientific and weapons research centres in one place in the Khilai empire to this day. The Khilai remained confined within their home system for many more centuries until one entreprenuering scientist descovered the means to make and assemble a warp drive capable of intersolar travel.
First Interstella Period: (known by Most Khilai as the first age of stars)Edit
The Khilai now continued their reserch into this new engine and fitted it to their new model of space craft; The Mk 2 Zeneth. The first pilot to leave the Nexus solar system was named Maila Iceail, a Khilai female from the Islands of Jamoi on Firon, one of the moons that orbit the Khilai homeworld of Xavous. The first steps to interstellar colonisation were tentative and the fist colony in the new system of Demobes lay only 0.5 pc away. But the Khilai were not irritated by the slow progression of their colonies, as long as it meant they were growing more powerfull. Another alien race was discovered as the Khilai were venturing into their 6th star system and they picked up a foureign system of contact from their own regular coding. After the colonisation party had discussed the strange discovery with the then emperor Henokie Jemsheg, the party decided to attempt first contact. Almost as soon as the grotesque creature on the video communication screen had appeared, the signal was cut and the Khilai ships were fired upon by weapons on the planet's surface. Four of the nine ships were destroyed by the inital attack. A message was forcibly sent to the ships: "We are the Metoc. We travel the galaxy destroying small races for it gives us pleasure. This quadrant now belongs to us. Any races will be destroyed beneath our great might! Prepare to flee or be vanquished!"
The Metoc Wars (Known as the wars of freedom)Edit
Initially being in their current possition of power, or so they thought, the threat was largely ignored by the Khilai. This was untill six weeks after the warning, when a fleet of four supply ships was attacked and obliterated by a Metoc destroyer. The Khilai then decided that these Metoc, whoever or whatever they were, had caused enough grief and shame on the Khilai and must be repelled and destroyed. The Khilai, being a largely military and aggressive race for millenia, saw no alternative than a vengance attack. A full eight weeks later, 800 fighters and fifty large destroyer space craft -the entire fleet of the time- flew to the home system of the Metoc and bombarded the planet and enemy fleets. The attack was repelled and more than half of the Khilai fleet was destroyed. In the years following, the metock pushed the Khilai right back to their home system, suffering minimal losses due to their own larger and more technically advanced military. The Khilai, now confined and under almost constant bombardment from the super destroyers of the Metoc, resorted not to offence but survival and begun a desperate campain to develop weapons to survive and repel the devastating Metoc attacks.
It was in this time that most of the powerfull super weapons were developed. Most of it not of the Khilai's own ingenuity, but rather was due to technology that was salvaged from the wreckage of Metock ships that had been shot down by the Khilai groudn-to-air missile systems, and repaired and modified by Khilai scientists. An early version of the Khilai's large ion beam was salvaged after it surprisingly survived an uncontrolled plummet of a Metock warship. These modified super weapons turned turned the table of battle and it began to be the Metoc who suffered heavy losses. New tactics were also developped, one of which proved very effective against the large battle ships of the Metoc; a boosted escape pod full of heavilly armed Khilai wariors was fired directly at the hull of a large Metock ship and penetrated the armour of the ship. This worked as the armour of the super detroyers was designed to stop plasma fire but surprisingly not metal objects. Once inside, the Khilai wrariors could take command of the destroyer and turn the guns upon the enemy fleet. The war raged for another few years, but eventually, the Khilai were able to drive off the Metoc, causing them to retreat. Thereafter, the Khilai re-colonised their old systems and continued expansion until their star systems numbered in the hundreds.
Second Interstellar PeriodEdit
After the recovery from the Metoc attacks, the Khilai went into a state of rapid expansion, claiming hundreds of star systems per year. The Khilai now experienced a properous time and had a massive recorce boom that launched another technological development period into effect. Many new vehcles, weapons, military and resource enrichment technology were invented, developed and tested because of the low prices in resources. This resulted in the discovery of Void Energy shortly after the Nebulorian-Alpha War. Applied technology, such as Void Energy focussing lenses and gravitionic weaponry, soon followed. The resource boom lasted about three years then technology and growth slowed back down to the average speed.
Around this time, the Khilai Empire send their first probes trough wormholes leading outside Tyris Major. These missions ended up being a success, though the Khilai not not explore further than oftentimes the first empire they encountered. They ended up meeting the United Hegemony of Exterioris in the Andromeda Galaxy and struck a tentative friendship. In the Milky Way Galaxy, the Khilai Empire met the Sago Kingdom, whom they initially derided as weak but eventually came to respect. In the Kraw Galaxy, the Khilai would gain an alliance with the Mag'heli Dominion and brokered a research agreement into cybernetics with them, though took note of the Dominion's over-reliance upon slave soldiers. Trough the galactic market, the Khilai began to engage in trade with the Bastnliues Republic from the Cyrannus Galaxy. They would likewise meet the Imperium of War in the Mirus Galaxy after the latter proposed testing the Khilai Empire's strength. This meeting resulted in a brief war between the powers, after which both recognised the martial prowess of one another and created a defensive pact. Lastly, the Khilai met the Skarling Allied Systems of the Galactic Protection Agency, and trough them, the Cathonian Collective and Duthidania as well. The Khilai Empire came to greatly respect the members of these states, though turned down a request for membership, believing that their relations were not yet tight enough. In their own galaxy, the Khilai Empire kept to itself, and interacted little with powers such as the Volver Empire or the Violaven Union, though they did did respect the strength of the Soldarian Empire's fleet and strove to be their counterpart on seige warfare.

Return of THEMEdit
When the Nyarqaeshu returned to the recognised universe, the output of the Khilai's Void Energy generators expanded drastically. The Khilai therefore submitted to Xizothano Ada in the hopes of geining even more power. Ada let them be, though retrurned their dead soldiers as Infused for his armies. he also asked for a monthly tribute in minerals, though it was one the Khilai Empire could fully pay as under Ada's guidance, the Void Energy matter generators of the Khilai Empire reached an output like never seen before. The Khilai Empire prospered like never before, but Ada's destruction would have catastrophic effects on the stability of the now overclocked Void Energy generators.
Void Energy Interstellar CatastopheEdit
The Khilai were at the largest they had ever been. Their aliances had grown to an unpresedented level and their economy was largely stable. Unknown though to the Khilai, their power source of focussed Void Energy was greatly flawed. The beams of energy which they used to generate entire planets worth of energy were slowly becoming more unstable, a process which was only hastened by Ada's destruction. As the Void Energy was focused into the 10 mile wide reactors, some of it was lost and caused massive damage to the surrounding infrastructure. This was discovered far too late, when almost simultaneously reactors on almost all of the Khilai Empire's planets exploded. This decimated their population and forced the Khilai Empire into a great recession fraught with energy shortages. After recovering from this interstellar disaster, the Khilai began their search for other options in power sources.
Great Tyranny WarsEdit
Luckily for the Khilai, the United Hegemony of Exterioris was willing to provide energy for them. However this came at a heavy price which gradually began to drain the Khilai treasury. The Khilai began to resent their alliance with the Hegemony, but were unable to break it as this would leave the Empire without power. In this came the Drakodominatus Tyranny. They first attempted to subjugate the Khilai during the Battle of Mehtous, but to their surprise were driven off. Sensing in them potential pawns for their upcoming Plan MW2-XV66, also known as the Great Deciever, the Dominatus changed course. Instead of pressing the attack futher, their representatives met Khilai Emperor Arath Helthrai and the K.M.E.G in the flesh, and gave them the technology to more effcicienly strip-mine planets into energy trough the use of artifical black holes. Yet in order to do this without destroying their own worlds in the process, the Khilai Empire needed to go to war.
Seemingly in yet another stroke of good luck, the Drakodominatus Tyranny informed the Khilai that the Hegemony would soon go to war against the Drodo Empire and their allies. The battle plans that the Drakodominatus Tyranny leaked to the K.M.E.G clearly showed the Khilai Empire in a subservient position to the Hegemony. This was, of course, rather logical as it had been the Hegemony who had drawn up the plans, but it infuriated Emperor Helthrai none the less that the K.M.E.G hadn't been consulted. He wanted to turn on the Hegemony there and then, but representatives from the Tyranny dissuaded him. They persuaded the K.M.E.G that more damage could be done to the Hegemony if they struck at them at an opportune moment during the upcoming war, rather than before it had started. They also informed them that a fleet from the Volver Empire was on it's way to question the Khilai about their use of Void Energy.
When the Volver fleet arrived, the Khilai took them by surprise. Bostered by the battlestars the Drakodominatus had build to guard the Khilai colonies, The Khilai fleets quickly drove the Volver off. This convinced Kyaan Desaa, the Volver Knight Commander in charge of the anti-void crusade, that the intent of the Khilai was malign. He thus began to direct more fleets against the Khilai Empire. As the Drakodominatus Tyranny had wanted, this event also served to place on Volver on the side of the Drodo Empire. The Khilai would serve alongside the Hegemony seemingly faithfully until the involvement of the Drakodominatus Tyranny in setting up the Drodo-Hegemony was uncovered. When the Tyranny gave the signal to betray the Hegemony and their allies, the Khilai Empire did so with glee, for they had come to see the local allies of the Hegemony as weak at best and self-deluded fanatics at worst, a category in which they also placed the Hegemony. The sole exception to this was the Galactic Protection Agency, whose members the Khilai still respected.
In Tyris Major, the Volver Empire and the rest of their United Knights Alliance would force the Battle of Kavous. There they were joined by fleets of the Hegemony, greatly infuriating the Khilai who saw their enemies had joined forces. Rather than fight, though, they leaked the Drakodominatus grand strategy towards the Khilai which they had paid the Violaven Union to hack. These plans clearly showed the the Drakodominatus intended for the Khilai to become their battle thralls after the war, and eventually, their slaves as with all others. The leakage of these plans had the rather unsurprising consequence that the Tyranny turned their automated battlestars in orbit of Khilai colonies to bombard them all at once. K.M.E.G quickly agreed to a temporary ceasefire with the Hegemony and the United Knights Alliance as the Drakodominatus Tyranny now prepered for a ground invasion of Mehtous. Taken in a pincher movement between the three fleets above and the large ion cannons on the planet below, the Tyranny's fleets were destroyed just before they could make their drop to the planet below. Their leader and current representatiive to the Khilai, a female Dominatus essence blank send to steal the secrets of Void Energy from the Khilai, was killed in the strike as well. Though their colonies had taken some losses, the Khilai agreed to join the Anti-Dominatus Coalition going forward, fighting valorously all the way to the Battle of Demogorgon Prime, after which the Drakodominatus Tyranny was finally brought down. Whereas other victorious powers clamored for the more obvious symbols of military might after the war, the Khilai went after more overlooked but no less important data. This was the schematics and manufacture of armaments and armor worn by both the Dominatus and the Drakodominatus before them, which had allowed the species perform do incredible feats in battle. Such suits and weaponry would be scaled down to Khilai size and distributed to their most elite soliders. In the Trial of the Dominatus, Emperor Arath Helthrai joined much of the known first gigaquadrant in condemning the Dominatus to death.
In the months after the resulting extinction of the Dominatus, which the Khilai voted in favor of, the Khilai temporarily opened their borders to fleeing Overseers and Synthetics. Many were respectful of the Helthrai's guts to show no mercy for their former allies and rise to glory over their corpses; the same thing their late masters would have done if their role was reversed with the Khilai. After discussing the matter with Kaz Herubrim of the K.M.E.G, Helthrai had the new arrivals put to combat. Through this the Khilai's new armors would be tested. The Synthetics were defeated relatively quickly and either disdisassembled or mentally shackled. Even most Overseers eventually met defeat as well, though these bouts oftentimes lasted for days. The sole exception to this was Danava, a Praetor from the Blademasters of Hag'mar'ah, who bested all Khilai send against him, and even beat some Khilai simultaneously. Impressed, Helthrai offered Danava and his retinue of Blademasters a place at his side. Though the Blademasters were Fordanta, the Fordan Empire saw them as Dominatus in the mutated bodies of their own and would not have them. Furthermore, though Khilai laws forbade the integration of sapient aliens into the Empire, the Blademasters were genetically upgraded from a pre-sapient Fordanta sister species, technically circumventing this rule. With little other option other than to become an inglorious mercenary, Danava accepted Helthrai's offer, bringing his Blademasters into the fold of the Khilai Empire. At the behest of the Blademonarch, he also let the other Overseers go to seek employment elsewhere rather than executing them as he had originally planned, as there was no glory to be won against a group of warriors without state or home.
Due to the valor they had shown, even the Volver looked upon the Khilai as victims of the Drakodominatus Tyranny's many manipulations after the war, and no further sanctions befell them. The Volver even donated large sums of energy credits to the Khilai to make their meagre power reserves self-sustaining and capable of improvement. The Khilai simply saw a form of colonialism in this though, and shut themselves off from all outsiders. Later, they would briefly fight alongside the Imperium of War in Tyris Major, before the Imperium was driven out.
Decades later, the Khilai Empire would pick up the unmistakable signatures of Void Energy use elsewhere. Emperor Arath Helthrai, still reeling after two sucessive defeats, sought a way to improve his own popularity and travelled to this signature. He was met with the twin leaders of the Void Eye Empire, who followed a peaceful brand of Void worship. He also met with Iloburaas of the Crimson Splinter Volver rebel movement, whom he quickly befriended thanks to a shared distaste of the Volver Empire. The Void Eye leadership showed Helthrai the Gate to the Abyss, an enormous Void Energy relic which currently powered both the Void Eye Empire and the Crimson Splinter, but could power more. They offered Helthrai and the Khilai Empire use of this resource, allowing the Khilai to once again become self-sufficient in all matters. Thanks to one simple and equitable deal, Helthrai restored his lost popularity. When the Krassio later aided the Void Eyes in the renewed battles against the Volver Empire and it's allies, Helthrai's popularity to previosuly unreached heights.
The war eventually ended in a stalemate, though this mattered little for the Khilai. They had gained allies which did not seek to exploit them, had become self-reliant, and had even begun to train a select few to wield Void Energy offensively.
Khilai society is militant and highly xenophobic. Nationalistic zeal is the norm rather than the exception. By law, only Khilai can ever be citizens of the Empire. Aliens immigrants are not welcome, for which security purposes are often cited. Refugees are often the exception, though only until more permanent homes outside the Empire are found. Indeed, the Khilai Empire has gone as far as to invate worlds inhabited by primitives in its territory, displacing its original inhabitants beyond the borders of the Empire. This is done to prevent such primitives from developing spaceflight, after which they would logically form an autonomous zone inside Khilai space. In conquest, land approriation is encouraged as those who do not immeditely contribute to the functioning of the colony are immediately eviced from their homes. Such aliens are then slowly expelled replaced with Khilai colonists as time goes on. The Khilai government also reserves the right to relocate Khilai as it wishes, though cannot impose any population controls nor prevent Khilai from migrating between their own worlds.
Miner, metallurgist and blacksmith jobs are most prized amongst the Khilai, followed by military employment. This is because the first ruler of the Khilai Empire, Hesh Jegoc, was a blacksmith. Rural Khilai worlds are thus often marked with sprawling mining networks, while more industrial worlds are home to vast alloy nano-foundry complexes and known as Forge Worlds.
The Khilai remain tolerant towards non-sentient sister species of sapients and pre-sapient species that do not yet show signs of true intelligence. This loophole allowed the Khilai Empire to employ the Blademasters of Hag'mar'ah, as they are technically pre-sapient Fordanta Secundus rather than fully sapient Fordanta Primus, though these beings are of course fully sentient after the Tyranny turned them into Overseers.
This section details the duties and election of emperors as well as other places of power within the Khilai empire.
The system of government used by the Khilai is a unique and ancient one. Indeed, some aspects of it date back to the very beginning of their sentient state. As the Khilai are based in a political imperium, they are lead by an emperor, the current leader being Arath Jecon Helthrai. Elections happen once every Khilai generation (roughly 100 earth years) and are done in a series of stages. These are:
Each planet within the Khilai Empire selects a delegate from among their strongest and most lauded wariors. They are selected by a democratic planetary-wide election where everyone on the planet at the time is allowed to vote for the delegates that nominate themselves and then the planet leader is selected by the people.
Star System Election
In star systems where their is more than one planet occupied by the Khilai, the delegates of each planet then have another chance to prove themselves to the people of the whole solar system. The champion of this stage moves on to become the elected member of that system. In star sytems where there is only one planet, this stage of election is bypassed as it is not needed.
In this stage, the delegates of each star system go into a large election where only a group of 100 select Khilai finish. The election involves a democratic election where the number is narowed down to only 100 Khilai warriors. These people then go into the fist of the trial stages.
The group of 100 go into a knock-out combat tournament of Khilai Sumo where the Khilai fight to prove their worth. The wrestling goes on until one of the wariors yields, but some of the fights have been recorded to go to the death becaue neither Khilai would back down. At the end of the tournament, 10 elite warriors go into the final stage of emperor selection.
The final stage of emperor selection is always held in the purpose built stadium of Nemx on planet Xavous. Nemx means "bravery" in ancient Khiileigh the language of the Khilai. The trials consist of 10 days of testing in both physical and mental areas of hardship. The final stage being of Dentoc or "strenth". This consists of the final two selected champions both armed with wrist blades atempting to cut through Quazom, the strongest substance discovered by the Khilai. The two atempt to cut through the blocks until one gives up or a block is split. This final event can go for days depending on the matched ability of the two elite wariors. After the final trials, the Khilai who is victorius becomes emperor and the other nine elite become his high council of advisors until the next election.
Education as well as military duty also plays a large part in the Khilai Empire.
The Khilai begin primary education the day they are born they are taught in individual creches and learn language and common manners by age three. The Khilai then go into bigger class groups and learn arithmetics and advanced language as well as basic military strategems. Khilai are often taught to read using journals of the Khilai conquests. The young Khilai also play compulsory sport which involves runs of up to 25 mi (40 km) or more. The Khilai play many sports of their own creation as they belive culture of other races poisons their youngs minds.
After the completion of their primary education, the Khilai go into a more structured and detailed secondary education system. In secondary education, Khilai who start secondarily at age ten go back into smaller class groups. This is done so learning can be more focused on idividuals to ensure maximum knowlege for the young Khilai. The secondary stage's learning curiculum consists of advanced mathmatics including equasions as well as history and science. Language and literacy are likewise expanded upon in this stage, and complex texts such as the Journal of Xizouyu Moa and the Uni'El et'Moa are introduced. Practical subjects are also taught to a great extent. These include metalworking, engineering and electronics. Sport is a major focus in secondary education and Khilai are taught sports, games and self defence methods. School education ends at age 20 when Khilai are also given the option to go into full time military service.
Although Khilai have a strict structured system and compulsory military service, many Khilai still find time to relax and participate in recreational activities. Due to their military culture, the Khilai regulary engage in shooting contests. Drills and parades are also popular activities to watch. Wresting equivalents of Sumo are especially popular, though differ from the Terran form in that they happen in full armor. A thick layer of padding is worn between the armor and the body to prevent any injuries from falling, making the participants even heavier. While the participants thus weigh a lot, they do not need to be overweight by themselves and indeed are oftentimes rather muscular as they need to move swiftly even within their armor. Another popular form of recreation is Shield Shoving. Two large shields are strapped to the forearms of the combatants, which they must use to shove one another outside the ring. Khilai Sumo and Shield Shoving are sometimes combined into one sport, and it is this sport which the most known Khilai form of recreation outside of the Empire, though it is in actuality rather rare within it.
Though most Khilai are not particularly religious, the Uni'El et'Moa remains a popular text, and the Moaism sect of Voidism the most popular denomination. Even those who do not see the Uni'El et'Moa as a sacred book commonly use it as a guide to gaining strength even when it appears the situation does not allow for it. The Journal of Xizouyu Moa likewise remains popular. It is trough the writings of this text that the Khilai first learned to harvest Void Energy. It also touches upon military matters, and thus it is required reading during their military training. In fact it is the first elaborate text they read, though most Khilai are familiar with it's teachings even before they enter service, if not as completely.
Competitive eating occurs on the annual celebration of the discovery of Void Energy, and thanks to the influence of Moaism, has a strangely religious undertone within the Khilai Empire. Participants eat as much as they can during this contest over as long a period of time as they can handle back-to-back. Often, they train their bodies for months in advance to handle the sudden influx of food they must process during the contest. The winner is crowned the "Hungering Maw" for that year and gains great respect by local Moaists. Even those who do not participate in the competition are treated to great feasts by their fellow Khilai, as food and drink is free and sponsored by the government for the duration of a single week. The month leading up to this feast is one of great fasting, as the Khilai are forbidden to eat or drink from dusk until dawn. The rest of the month is one of intense sporting to get the citizens of the Khilai Empire back into shape.
The Khilai Military and Law Enforcement Group (K.M.E.G) plays a large role in the Khilai Empire. K.M.E.G command controlls all millitary and expansion opperations this includes space flight land sea and air vehicles as well as advances in military technology. The leader of K.M.E.G is called Kaz Herubrim and is enourmous even among Khilai. He is a war general of a colosal 660 lbs (297 kg).
Though the Khilai Empires reserves the right to claim neighboring non-Khilai systems and wage unrestricted wars, it is not particularly aggressive and generally pursues an isolationist stance. However, they do destroy neutral or unknown ships entering their space unless they have explicit permission to be there and generally keep their borders closed. This often leads to additional border tensions, but rarely war. Furthermore, the Khilai navy favors an in-depth defense of its own space above reckless adventurism abroad.
Though the Khilai military does aprticipate in displacement of aliens upon conquering their colonies and the navy bombards their foes indiscriminately, neither actively purues a policy of extermination towards their foes.
All Khilai do a minimum of ten years military service. The training regeime begins at nine years of age with the cadets being taken on 50-100 mile (80-160 km) runs. This is easy for the Khilai but still challenging to younger infants. The young soldiers are also taught war strategy extension, the basics of which are taught at school before the age of nine. They are learn all vehicle proficiency and maintenance, electronics hijacking and repair as well as building comunication systems from scrap. The Khilai are also taught several ancient martial arts developed thousands of years earlier. Those invididuals with the ability to harness essence are given training in the useage of Void Energy, mastering the more difficult powers the more attuned they are. The Khilai Empire takes care not to teach such students greater techniques than they can naturally handle however. For all Khilai, the whole training regime ends at about 20 years of age, at the same time as they also finish school. At this point they are given the option to become civilians or continue in the military. About 65% of Khilai continue in the military and will serve until they die.
Though it is often boasted by the Khilai that they have no need for enhancements, this is only partially true. The Khilai indeed employ the widespread use of cybernetics in particular, though not in the more traditional use. Whereas many species turn to cybernetics to boost their own strength and durability, the Khilai maintain that they need nothing but their bodies and their armor to win any engagement. Thus, while full-time warriors do recieve extensive cybernetics, these are used to bond the Khilai fully with their armor and make it as if it becomes their second skin, and initially nothing else. Only when a warrior loses a part of their body in combat will they gain the right to have a superior cybernetic replacement installed. Such cybernetics will often have hidden weaponry installed into them, such as wrist blades or miniature ion blasters, allowing the warrior to take his foes by surprise in a pinch. Generally, the more cybernetic replacements a warrior gains, the less likely it becomes he loses another organ in the future. Something which is found acceptable for military leaders though is to have cybernetics installed into their brains. This gives them a clearer overview of battlefields the Khilai Empire fights upon, shortening supply lines, reducing army and navy upkeep, and allowing them to direct multiple engagements at once. Fleet admirals often interface directly with their ships, tweaking the firing codes to their own preferences as to ensure greater damage output.
All this makes the average Khilai warrior on par with the supersoldiers of many less advanced empires, and gives them a general disdain of such breeds, even if they prove superior to Khilai warriors individually. Indeed, it is often erroneously assumed by the Khilai that the Drakodominatus Tyranny did take their species as candidates for the Overseer program as there was nothing to improve upon. That the Volver make the same boast only aggrevates the rivalry with exists between the two races even more.

This section contains infomation on the various weapons used by the Khilai empire.
This weapon is put on tanks, planes and sea vehicles but not on space craft as the electronics can't operate in zero gravity. The weapon locks onto a target and rapidly fires highly reactive proton pulses at the target, causing annihilation of anything in a 5 ft radius. Unfortunatly, this includes water, soil and any gas in that region, meaning overuse of the weapon can affect the T-score of the planet negatively.
A missile variant known as the Proton Torpedo is manufactured for spaceships. It is very fast for a missile and has excellent tracking capacities. However, Prtoton Torpedoes need to be loaded carefully, and thus cannot be fired in quick succession.
This is is the Khilai equivalent for lasers operated by most other empires. A Proton Launcher has a shorter range compared to most laser weaponry but wider radius. It can also be used to blind and overload enemy electronics, something which is generally unavailable to the standard laser cannon.
Like with the Proton Launcher, a missile variant known as the Photon Torpedo exists. The Photon Torpedo deals great damage to ship hulls upon impact and bypasses shields altogether, however it is slow and very luminous in flight. This makes it especially suspectible to hostile point defence which often needs to be taken out before the Torpedoes can be launched. When this is done or the enemy does not bring sufficient point defence to the field, a massed volley of Photon Torpedoes has been known to wreak great havoc amongst enemy ships. The Photon Torpedo shell is much larger than that of a Proton Missile and is indeed larger than a live Khilai. As a result, dead Khilai captains are often interred into a empty Photon Torpedo and shot into the heart of Nexous, the Khilai's home star.
Mectahydride Automated Turret
Affectionately named the "crystal cannon", this weapon is a fully automated portable Mectahydride turret. The turret works by firing shards of Mectahydride, a high dencity crystal, at enemy vehicles. When fired, the shards effectively go through a blender where they increase speed and break up so anyone or anything being shot at by the turret is effectively being shot with a hypersonic cristalised shotgun blast. The tiny shards vaporise any outer armor so that other weapons can destroy the remainder. This means that, given time, the turret slowly eats through every layer of armour until it destroys what it is shooting at. With the addition of magnetised legs, the Mectahydride turets can be used to patroll the surface of star destroyers as well as defend supply ships without the risk to Khilai personel patrols.
Zada Pulse Cannons
The Zada Pulse Cannon is a currently experimental weapon that fires a short burst of zada radiation emited from the highly unstable pure form of Hetorium.
Massive Gravity mMdifier
This catastrophic superweapon works by firing a special container of super dense matter at the planets surface. This usually is a highly populated area. On contact with the ground, the container opens and because of the immense density of the matter, the gravity of that area is increased vastly. The largest variant of this weapon has a lethal radius of 2 mi (3.5 km) and a destructive radius of more than 10 mi (15 km). This weapon is fired into a city or resource enrichment area to annihilate all persons and structures. It has never been used in a war situation but testing projects it to be devastatingly effective in such a scenario.
Large Ion Beam
This is a planet based superweapon, although smaller versions have been attached to super star destroyers. The large ion beam is used for planet defence against invading forces and rarely as part of the planets asteroid defence system. The largest weapon is over 600 m long and can fire 8 beams per hour. The recharge period is very long due to the immence amount of energy expended in each blast. The beam itself consists of a huge burst of negatively charged ion particles. The ion cannon has high orbital targeting and has pinpoint accuracy of down to 15 inches (30 cm). The weapon was used in the attempted invasion of Mehtous by the Drakodominatus Tyranny.
Interstellar Targeting System
This recently invented technology is still largely under development and still has much testing to be done before it can be adapded to space ships or turrets. The system uses a supercomputer and ultralong-range proton missiles to have an aiming system capable of hitting space vehicles and buldings on planets orbiting around other stars! The Khilai eventually upgraded the missiles fired by this system with miniature hyperdrives, allowing them to arrive at their targets much sooner.
