I believe the key difference between a species like the Grox and the average spacefaring nation of the galaxy is how differently the two think in terms of science and logic.

The Grox have a twisted way of thinking, there's no denying that. Compared to the rest of the universe, the Grox are so influenced by and obsessed with science to a point where their citizens are nothing more than working drones to them who receive an education and then are immediately pushed out towards a job in which they have no say in and have to work in horrible conditions or face strict punishment. The Grox do not hold freedom. You can argue that they have elections, that the Grox are ruled under a democracy and that there is little to no corruption in their government, but then I point to the issues of the lack of freedom of expression, thought, speech, and religion. I point to the countless species which have been exploited and enslaved by the Grox for their own selfish gains. I point to a society that cares not for its citizens, but only cares for an outdated philosophy that should have been thrown away by its people before it was too late.
The people of the Technocracy are now nothing more than slaves, just like the slaves and constructs who serve them. It's nothing more than a country filled with slaves ruled by the elite.
- The Technocracy: A Modern Look on the Grox

The Technocratic Republic of the Grox, informally recognized as the Grox Empire and officially the "Enlightened People of Tiorolc and her Domains" is both a technological and military superpower hailing from the universe of Starrlin and one of the two hyperpowers of the universe after the collapse of Germania. One of the most powerful forces Starrlin has ever seen, at the height of its power, it was the third-largest Empire located entirely in Starrlin.

The origins of the Technocracy can be traced back to the Technocrats of Tiorolc, an extremist organization that, through democratic efforts and dumb luck, managed to gain complete control of the government of the Democratic Republic of the Grob. Ever since the power-grab of the Grob have been achieved by the Technocrats, they have spread their influence across the galaxy for millions of years. Their mass-colonization of countless galaxies across a large-span of time left a large impact in the lives of millions, if not hundreds of thousands of species spread across their affected galaxies, (for good or bad)

The ruling party of the Technocracy since its inception has been the {{Fiction}Technocrats of Tiorolc}}, and although several other parties in the Technocracy are tolerated, most of them have ties/similar beliefs to the Technocrats and hold little to no representation in any government affairs. The Technocrats hold onto power using subliminal messages, propaganda, and frequent brain-washing as well as mob-mentality. The Technocracy is one of the longest surviving Empires in Starrlin, having lasted for 500 million years under thousands of different Overseers.

History

Origins

The Grob, as the Grox's ancestors were called, were nothing more than a race of semi-sapient humanoid proto-mammals lingering in the habitable regions of the arid deserts of a radiated Tiorolc. Tiorolc was almost inhospitable, water was scarce and the Grob faced challenge after challenge from the harsh predators which preyed on the Grob's young constantly.

However, the Grob would survive, purely by coincidence. An unknown race, not known to the modern races of Starrlin, would crash-land on the planet due to a space-battle with pirates on the way to colonize another selected target.

Luckily for them, while most of their colonization tools and population were lost in the attacks, the escaped colony ships managed to hold on to three important things: One, a large enough population (of around fifteen thousand) to sustain a minor colony. Two, a single charge of a terraforming tool similar to the Staff of Life. Three, a communications device which, although damaged, could be repaired.

So the Mysterious Peoples terraformed the once inhospitable surface of Tiorolc, to a degree. The device did not work as they had intended, and the tool only affected certain areas of the planet, leaving most of the planet still an arid wasteland. You can see where this leads- a mass migration into the forests and grasslands which the Mysterious Peoples intended to colonize.

Life Under Slavery

What do you do when millions of a species waltz into your colonies under construction? What do you do when you are so desperate for work, yet you possess a low labor pool? The answer is "Enslave those bastards who walked into your lands without asking.", at least according to the Mysterious Peoples. The Grob now belong to the Mysterious People, and they are forced to be mere slaves without rights to the people. Thus began an era of helplessness and fear, in which their owners did (things that I cannot mention in this article) The Mysterious Peoples, now with a labor pool in the hundreds of thousands, began putting effort into setting up small communities of towns. Crude buildings were built, out of iron and resources left in the ship. The groundwork was laid for future generations to create cities. A long process, but one that would happen one way or another. They made sure of it. (Un)Fortunately, their plan of slavery was to soon backfire on them.

A Revolution

What do you do when millions of your people have been enslaved by strange aliens with a population of 6x less than yours? The answer is "Rebel and kill your captors.", at least according to the Grob. So it was done. A wave of mass panic and anger spread quickly across the enslaved members of the Grob. Riots ensue, and you can see where this is going... The total flip of power from the now recently uplifted Grob and the Mysterious Peoples which once ruled over them with an iron fist. Some Grob even had the idea of salvaging bits of their former-captors guns, swords, and buildings for new resources. Reverse-Engineering, if you can call it that. Even if the scraps of metal or wood weren't used in their intended ways, it was still something to fight against the Peoples. Swords, guns, shields, basic wooden and stone huts. They figured out how to hold, shoot, and aim guns before they learned how to build temples, houses, and stadiums. They charged with an iron sword and shield in bronze armor before they even knew how to convey their speech in writing. Eventually, their plan of liberation succeeded. Their captors, once owners of millions, became nothing more than the slaves of the now collectivized Grob which forced the Mysterious Peoples to educate their people, build towers for their leaders, and farm the crops in the Grob's fields. The war crippled the Mysterious People's population, dropping their population from 35,000 to nearly 1,000, which meant that the Grob had to constantly find a way to keep the Mysterious People's population from dipping too low while also finding a way to make sure that the Mysterious People's population did not exceed the Grob's capabilities. One bad decision leads to another, and eventually, the Mysterious Peoples disappeared one by one until there were none left. Needless to say, this resulted in disaster.

Division & the first true Nation-States

During the revolution, the Grob were a collectivized, almost hive-minded like swarm to the Mysterious Peoples who appeared suddenly and out of nowhere. There was no difference between two warriors. Both men wanted one thing, and that was liberation. When the war was over, the need for a single, unified ideology slowly became... useless. The first independent thoughts of politics, ethics, civics began to appear. With this, the once unified City-State with a population of several million lost its purpose. Most Grob began salvaging the city to go create their own factions where they would create tiny towns for their citizens to live in. Thus began the era of divided nation-states. The age of cultures, customs, music, arts, faith, and sciences began. At first, these divided nation-states shared much in common, however, as years went by these nation-states slowly began drifting in their separate directions due to self-imposed isolation. Trade still occurred, but it was selective and highly regulated. This, in turn, allowed the nation-states to gradually individualize while also keeping a steady flow of imports and exports to keep their economies flowing.

Republic

Throughout Tiorolc's history, Empires and Kingdoms have risen and fallen. They may have left a lasting influence on culture and religion, but eventually, their culture and religion gets absorbed into the larger pile of religion and culture and is lost in the pool that is identity. One nation, however, managed to avoid becoming the victim of a *loss of culture* by openly accepting other cultures and fusing it to create a unique and strange culture which the Tiorolcan Queens and Kings had not seen before. 776 BT marks the year when Tiorolc's future overlord would be created; The Democratic Republic of Zhüsa, a tiny confederation comprising of a few vassals who had recently gained independence from their overlords up north. The independence of the DRZ immediately caused a giant ripple across the political landscape of Tiorolc, who were certainly unused to seeing democracy, let alone political freedom being a thing anywhere. They were one of a kind- the first true democracy of the world. Democracy was at first shunned by the conservative rulers of the world, although some liberal philosophers and royalty took a keen eye to the newly founded Democratic Republic. Of course, conflict often arose due to the Republic being unrecognized by the conservative kingdoms of Tiorolc.

Then, the political thought of Tiorolc changed to favor more liberal & progressive ideas. Revolutions against corrupt regimes that had been in place for generations now crumbled apart as the people of these nations established democracies and republics. These countries would look towards Zhüsa for diplomacy & trade. What all of these nations shared in common was three things: They were mostly liberal, they had common enemies, and they all spawned from a single colonial empire. At the time, there seemed to be no reason why not to simply *unite* together under the same flag. These weren't the only ways the Republic of Zhüsa united Tiorolc under one banner; other methods would have included warfare, bribery, trade... and sheer intimidation. In the year 239 BT, the world's last independent country was absorbed into the Democratic Republic of the Grob. Approximately, for 239 years, Tiorolc was under the rule of a complicated governmental system that tried to appease billions of people spanning a giant land-area. Was it possible? Yes. Was it easy? No. The religious and cultural divide in the Republic could not be underestimated, and it was for this reason why the Democratic Republic continued to have such a large military budget and military just for this reason. The country could not let its guard down, for if it eased up for a moment, a possible revolution from extremist groups would occur. Then these revolutions became scarce, and eventually, the country breaking apart into a million pieces seemed unlikely. This decentralization of power would lay the groundwork for a single political party to take the country by storm.

Technocrats

During the year 16 BT, two friends stood together to create their own political party, the first of its kind: The Technocrats of Tiorolc. Unlike most other parties, the Technocrats were extremist, fierce, and competitive. They were the odd ones out in the political landscape of the Republic, and they knew it. Them being the odd's one actually GAVE them the advantage over most other parties, however.

The Technocracy was hellbent on one thing, and that thing was total and utter political domination. Anything that could be achieved within the laws of the Republic, they were willing to go to, although ocassionally they did stoop to new lows just to gain more political power and members.

The Churches of Heavenissm, which were scattered across Tiorolc, decided to reunite together and create their own, anti-technocratic political party which aimed to rival the Technocrats and their extremist anti-religious policies, although at best the People's Party for Heavenism was basically ran by the Five Lords of Heaven who wanted to see the universe's first ever country ruled under Heavenism, which had NOT been achieved yet.

A Civil (Not) War

Between 10 BT and 2 BT, the Technocrats of Tiorolc and the People's Party for Heavenism clashed both politically and physically as fierce rivals. Science vs Faith, Secularism vs theocracy. The race to political dominance was firce and harsh, with membership constantly changing and flowing, with one party sometimes getting the edge over the other before being knocked down to 2nd place. The Heavenists thought they could win against the Technocrats but... oh, how so foolish of them. In 2 BT, the Technocrats (being one of the largest and most powerful political factions in Tiorolc, with one of their leaders even being in the position of government said to Tiorolc, in simple terms that "We're in charge now and that we're going to make reforms to make us more powerful.", and slowly over time political freedoms were swapped out as the Technocrats knocked the "Democratic" off of Republic and turned the Republic into a dictatorship.

Technocracy

1T marked the year that what we consider as the "Technocracy of the Grox" was born. A one-party, unitary dictatorship hellbent on being more technologically advanced and more powerful than everyone else at all times. Immediately, the Technocrats started working on everything they did to reach for the stars, farther than just their own solar systems. Miracously, they made a breakthrough, and that breakthrough doomed the universe without it even knowing. Soon enough, the Technocracy was colonizing nearby solar systems, inhabiting them with volunteers in heavily focused areas of hospitability. Over time, these colonies grew, and so did the Technocracy's knowledge and abilities. The Grob stopped calling themselves 'Grob'. No, they were much something different, more. They were the Grox- the humble servants of the Overseer and Groxologism, and the Technocracy was the Grox's empire. You could call the Technocracy the GROX EMPIRE.

The Empire

What drives a man to steal? An empire to conquer? A company to sell? The answer to these questions is simple and shared- it is the natural human instinct to want. Wanting things has been a thing since we can tell that civilization began, and there was 2 ways to get the things you wanted- by either taking it by force from unsuspecting people, or buying it for some of your own stuff. The Grox were no different than the humans, although instead of the natural greed that most humans possessed in the early age of humanity, they possessed a natura and inpenetrable instinct to want nothing more to survive. By all measures, whether it meant destroying others around them for their species to last a little longer.

This natural instinct of the Grox's was the reason why so many people advocated for the Technocrats, and this natural instinct is why the Grox were so centered on trying to find a way out into the outer of outer space so early on. It shouldn't come as a surprise then to realize that immediately as the Grox figured out the hyperlane network that they immediately began searching for a way to colonize planets around them.

After a few years of exploration, they came to find that a planet a few star systems away happened to be a relatively hospitable planet which was ironically the planet which the Mysterious Peoples had planned to colonize thousands of years earlier. Sending wave after wave of volunteers and resources, they prayed (PRAYING IS FUCKING ILLEGAL NO PRAYING HERE) that their tiny establishment on the planet would work. It worked, to some degree. It wasn't a huge success at first, but the colony seemed relatively well off enough for the people to cheer on the government.

The President of the Technocracy also took advantage of the massive approval ratings for the government at the time to expand and centralize his power in the Tiorolcan government, and with the approval of the Congress, effectively combined the judicial and executive branches into one great position of power - the Overseer. The people did nothing.

The Overseer ordered the expansion of the Grob onto other nearby hospitable planets and for the most part, they succeeded at this. A few centuries passed, and the Technocracy expanded their empire into distant and far off star systems. As a matter of fact, it seemed like there WAS no competition to their claims and expansion other than the natural hazards of the universe itself.

Technology improved, so did lives, and the colonies were starting to look like proper colonies by now. The Grox remained... isolated for a good few thousand years before they stumbled upon the remnants of an alien civilization on the verge of the inner rim. As it turned out, the Grox were so close to the center of the galaxy and achieved spaceflight so early that nobody was exactly able to expand a massive enough empire in time for the Grox to actually meet them.

So, a few millennia passed, and as per protocol- their colonies and technology expanded. Another millennia passed, and they ended up meeting their first actual alien civilization. Another millennia passed, and they conquered their first alien civilization and fittingly (for a Grox, at least) made them slaves. One general even had the idea of turning them into super-human (Alien? Soldier?) cyborgs to fight on the frontlines, and ended up creating the first drafts for the Constructs.

Other than a few hostile encounters, the Grox were otherwise completely unstoppable by anyone else in their quest to expand from the center of the galaxy to the entirety of the inner rim.

Millennia upon millennia pass, and with each year the Grox grew stronger and larger. First they went from a single planet- then to a sizable chunk of the inner rim- and then they began to expand into the outer rim and more. They even began working on the idea of traveling through wormholes at this time. At this point, you could even consider the Grox to be going into a GOLDEN AGE.

Culture

The Culture, Cuisine, attitude and in general many aspects of Grob society is largely influenced by the Technocrats of Tiorolc with their long-lasting iron of a fist grip on the people of the Grob. Grob culture is cold, empty, and largely bigoted and xenophobic.
