After almost a millenia, we can finally seek our fortunes outside of the Empire's shadow. Thus begins a new era of freedom and prosperity.

History[]

Prominent Guilds[]

House Cassius
Leader: Alba Cassius

House Cassius is one of the youngest merchant guilds, having risen to prominence in the late 28th century as a major manufacturer of starships and weapons. Although originally looked down upon by most of the older guilds, the House gained some measure of (reluctant) respect once several of its enemies met unfortunate accidents.

House Horatius
Leader: Otho Horatius

The oldest surviving merchant guild, House Horatius has established near monopolies in several industries, most notably mining. The guild was the first to reach out to foreign powers after restrictions were lifted on the merchant guilds in 2819, soon pressurizing the Talven government into joining GITO.

House Livius
Leader: Seneca Livius

With no particular specialization, House Livius is by far the wealthiest merchant guild, in possession of several palace worlds, along with a sizable armada. The secret behind this success is unclear, but it is generally believed to be due to incredible foresight, extensive manipulation, or a mix of the two.

House Valerius
Leader: Jovian Valerius

Second in age only to House Horatius, House Valerius is the only reason that the former has failed to gain a monopoly over Talven agriculture. Both houses have an old and bitter rivalry, although it is rumoured that their respective leaders are close allies. House Valerius also collaborates with a variety of artists and theatres, funding their work in return for a share of the profits.

Fleet[]

Warships[]

While the merchant guilds rarely engage in warfare, both independent raiders and nations at war with the Talven Empire occasionally attack their freighters. After the democratization of the Empire in 2818, the merchant guilds rapidly modernised their military forces, although older, more elaborate warships still serve as the official flagships of many of these fleets.

Class: Pegusus-class corvette
Armament:

Light energy canons
Point-defense energy cannons
Missile launchers

Defense:

Light armor plating
Light shielding

Description:
Borrowed from theTalven Navy, the Pegusus-class corvette acts as an anti-fighter and support ship. It is not powerful enough to cause much harm to larger ships, but is often used as a distraction. Some captains make use of the corvette's speed and maneuverability by arming their ships with mines.

Notable examples:N/A

Class: Fury-class battleship
Armament:

Heavy energy cannons
Point-defense energy cannons
Missile launchers
Tractor beams

Defense:

Heavy armor plating
Heavy shielding

Description:
Designed with an impressive armament of missile launchers, the Fury-class battleship is designed to unleash a storm of hyperspatial missiles upon any force it comes across. The ship itself is vulnerable to fighter attack, although it is rare to see one without an escort.
Notable examples:

  • Aldar's Breath, commanded by Alba Cassius.
  • The Indomitable, commanded by Otho Horatius.

Freighters[]

The merchant guilds maintain countless freighters, both for their own use and for shipping services in and around the Lower Sagittarius Arm. Many merchant guilds also sell these freighters to other nations.

Class: Type-85 Barge
Armament:

Anti-meteoroid point-defense energy cannons

Defense:

Light armor plating (optional)
Light shielding

Description:

The Type-85 Barge is a huge freighter designed to be towed by another ship, potentially among other similar vessels. The freighter does have its own hyperdrive and manoeuvring thrusters, and can be slaved to the ship leading it for additional mobility. Beyond access shafts, little space is allowed for crew, instead taken up by extensive exposed racks, suited for generic cargo containers. Armour plating can be attached for use when attacks from pirates and other aggressive powers are a danger.

Class: Type-85b Barge
Armament:

Anti-meteoroid point-defense energy cannons

Defense:

Light armor plating (optional)
Light shielding

Description:

A variation on the Type-85, the Type-85b sacrifices cargo space for more powerful power generators suited to the transportation of powered cargo such as antimatter containers.
