The People's Liberation Navy (PLN) is the naval service branch of the People's Liberation Army. It is responsible for the maintenance and operation of tens of thousands of starships under the command of Coalitionary General Gustavus Ikeben.

It was founded in 2792 as the third and final branch of the PLA, and served to expand the influence of the United Free Peoples Coalition in its early months of existence. Currently, it is involved in the Tyranny War.

Ships[]

Aegis Class Carrier

  • Year Introduced - 2792
  • Role - Line carrier / flagship
  • Length - 2.5 km
  • Armament:
    • Plasma rails
    • Turbolasers
    • Antimatter torpedoes
    • Plasma shielding
    • Heavy plating

The Aegis-class carrier is the pride of the People's Liberation Navy, serving as the flagship of choice for Admiral and Fleet Captain alike. It is a large vessel spanning one and a half kilometers and is lined with plasma rails. Thus, it can easily stand toe-to-toe with some ships of the line. Its strength however, lies in the aircraft it carries. It is equipped with launch tubes near the front of the craft that allow it to quickly deploy interceptors, and shielded landing bays near the rear to recover them.

It has two bridges: the command bridge and the battle bridge. The command bridge is located near the center of the ship. It is there that the Admiral or Fleet Captain can review and command his fleet. At the front, the battle bridge is used by the commanding officer to direct the ship and its assets.

  • Year Introduced - 2792
  • Role - Ship of the line
  • Length - 2 km
  • Armament:
    • Plasma rails
    • Turbolasers
    • Antimatter torpedoes
    • Plasma shielding
    • Heavy plating

A tough ship of the line, the Ardent-class is a staunch vessel designed to excel in direct ship-to-ship combat. Its shields are capable of absorbing all but the most overpowering of broadsides while its plasma rails deliver punishment in return.

Consular-class cruiser

  • Year Introduced - 2792
  • Role - Frigate
  • Length - 1.6 km
  • Armament:
    • Plasma rails
    • Turbolasers
    • Antimatter torpedoes
    • Plasma shielding
    • Heavy plating

The Consular-class is a common medium-sized ship that typically makes up the main body of any Coalition fleet. Built as a compromise between a cruiser's agility and a ship of the line's toughness, it is considered to be well rounded, adaptable, and cost effective.

  • Year Introduced - 2792
  • Role - Flak carrier
  • Length - 1 km
  • Armament:
    • Flak turbolasers
    • Plasma shielding
    • Heavy plating

The Macer-class is a dedicated aircraft carrier that is arguably more cost effective than the Aegis-class when it comes to the amount of starfighters and Wellners it can hold. However, it is not equipped with the armament to stand up to regular ships. Instead, it hosts arrays of anti-aircraft weapons that allow it to lay down supporting fire for its fighters. As such, it can be thought as a far more conventional carrier.

It uses roughly the same hangar system as the Aegis, though said system makes up more of the ship's total area.

Valor-class Frigate

  • Year Introduced - 2792
  • Role - Cruiser
  • Length - 0.6 km
  • Armament:
    • Plasma rails
    • Antimatter torpedoes
    • Plasma shielding
    • Heavy plating

The Valor-class is a much smaller and more malleable ship than its larger counterparts. It is a cheap and handy escort, patrol, and long-distance reconnaissance vessel. Many variants of it exist, most retooled for specific tasks.

Hammer-class Frigate

  • Year Introduced - 2792
  • Role - Missile cruiser
  • Length - 0.6 km
  • Armament:
    • Turbolasers
    • Antimatter torpedoes
    • Plasma shielding
    • Heavy plating

An easily recognizable variant of the Valor-class, the Hammer-class is designed to carry a large complement of antimatter torpedoes and is capable of unleashing them in large quantities. However, it is not nearly as versatile as its original design, sacrifices a lot of storage space to carry torpedoes, and has little else in terms of armaments. Therefore, it useful only when used in concert with other ships.

  • Year Introduced - 2793
  • Role - Missile Frigate
  • Length - 0.6 km
  • Armament:
    • Turbolasers
    • Antimatter torpedoes
    • Plasma shielding
    • Heavy plating

One of the Coalition's first unmanned craft, the Hammer-class frigate Mark 2 was a vastly improved version of the Hammer-class.

The original frigate was extremely limited when it came to the amount of antimatter it could safely charge into its torpedoes. The traditional design, to have the torpedo bays at the center of the ship, made the transport of antimatter in large quantities from the nacelles a dangerous, costly, and inefficient affair. Furthermore, if something went wrong during that transaction, the ship had little in terms of fail-safe mechanisms and would likely explode. The fact that no crew quarters or life sustaining systems were required also made things easier in terms of space, allowing more charges to be safely stored.

To remedy these problems, Quaranian engineers moved the torpedo bays to the sides of the ship, closer to the nacelles and away from the main body of the ship. A new series of much more reliable antimatter conduits were installed, allowing the ship to deliver larger loads without fear of overloading its systems. In the event that something did go wrong despite these improvements, the torpedo bays themselves were made ejectable.
