The devotion to the goddess. Loyalty to the Headmaster, zeal til the end.

- Mantra of the Order

The Teurontoc Order is an Order of Duetzalanian crusader knights who split from the main The Zarbania Powers due to believing it was too weak and soft on heresy. Deciding to launch a crusader campaign, the Order gained more and more influence as it went, gathering several Duetzalanian lords and their knights looking for either true piety and devotion to their religion, or simply glory and fame.

However, the Order, unlike many empires, was a pure military state, having no royal families or economic planets, all planets being dedicated to military build-up. The Order relied, at first, on working with the main empire to grants of money, as well as raiding and pillaging heretics, before it began to weaken.

As the Order relied more on mercenary bands to replace it's older, somewhat decrepit knights, it's military power weakened, and it was brought back under the fist of the Zarbania Powers.

History[]

Creation[]

The Order of Teurontuc began during the early days of the Zarbania Powers, through a faction of religious zealots among them. While not satisfied with the new empire, they requested to be allowed to split from the empire. High Command accepted, and they named their first Headmaster, Guntar kos Sarka, a famous war general. Ruling the Order with a fair hand, he established an area of space, his intentions to peacefully convert the heretics, and only use military force when attacked or when the priests where attacked. Despite some questionable behavior, the Order remained to it's roots, until Guntar died.

As was tradition, the next highest ranking general, Mendar Kunqrix, was named Order Headmaster. More forceful in his believes, Mendar began a campaign of forcing other races to accept his order's ways, through force most of the time.

Rise to Power[]

Mendar's policies made the Order a group to be feared. As he gained more power and prestige, the Order gathered more lords eager to gather money for their estates, or where just eager to prove their devotion to their goddess. Even when dying in battle, Mendar's fame lead to his policies still being used.

What followed was a system of warlords, some trying to go back to a peaceful system, but ultimately getting dethroned and replaced with more aggressive warlords and brutes.

However, these warlords lead the Order to becoming a massive military power, and enough to challenge it's own mother-empire.

Downfall[]

Finally, under the Headmaster Jolgun kos Hohenkols, the Order declared the Powers unfit to lead Zarbania and her Scorner-worshipping population, and declared war. High Command was quick to delegate resources to ending them, and after a short war, quickened by in-fighting, the Order was brought down, most of it's territory returned to it's original owners, even enemies of the Powers, and, for bases not returned, given reparations.

Other problems that faced the Order included a downgrade in the quality of knights trained, including old age and general dis-organization. As such, the Order began to rely more and more on mercenary companies to help fight it's wars.

However, as it continued to battle, it soon ran out of money to pay the mercenaries, and began to exhaust all it's resources.

Current status[]

Currently, the remaining Order is a protectorate and controlled by the Powers to act as a source for extra soldiers in emergency situations. The Headmaster is Halgun kos Hohenkols, grandson of Jolgun.

Culture[]

Society[]

The Order demands total dedication to the Scorner and the allied gods, and failure results in execution for heresy. It is in many ways the dark side of the Powers. Where's the Powers are liberal, try and separate church and state, and are heavily industrialized, the Order is entirely focused on religion through blood, and has turned it's back on many Powers ideals.

The Order was made up purely of Duetzalanian warriors, no Scimat'akar, Grux, or Cradosan being allowed in. However, other species' Lords and Crusader champions could join the order with some of their warriors in exchange for granting money. Basically, when the other empires' lord arrived with his followers, the Order would work with him to conquer infidels. The more satisfied he was with the battle, the more money he gave in return.

It should be noted that civilians merely build new weapons, armor, and act in agri-corps for their troops on the frontlines, and have little industry, relying on working for the mother-empire and her families to support their economy.

Religion[]

The Order follows the pantheon of the Gods of Zarbania, worshipping them through war.

Military[]

The Order's military was once quite feared by lesser empires for their tendsceny to raid them for resources. While feared, it lacked the discipline of the Fist of Zarbania, and, as such, their land military, while zealous and known to charge headlong at foes, was less effective.

Their fleets where smaller, but extremely fast.
