The Mithadorn Remnants are the surviving forces of the fallen state known as the Mithadorn Republic. Officially a non-existent, and largely in hiding, the nation deals with its former allies in secret, while dealing in black-market trade to purchase weapons for use in the fighting of an underground war with The Grand Teyan Empire.

Much of the Remnants works under the systems of the predecessors, though notable changes in society have been seen due to the utter devastation inflicted upon the people during the Mithadorn-Teyan War. Technically a leaderless empire - a side effect of it's unofficial existence - lawlessness is widespread, and crime-rates soar. Police and military forces keep the peace through force in the restless community, as they attempt to retake their old lands.

Society[]

Ethnicities[]

Citizens of the Remnants are varied as the worlds they now so-desperately cling to. Mithadorn sub-breeds have begun to form in part because of their highly-diverse, and largely poor worlds. This diversity has created tension between the ethnic groups, and their differing dialects often causes confusion during conversation.

These worlds often hold their own distinct cultures and industries, with distinctive traits that easily marks a Mithadorn from the place they originate. The sandy dunes of Aquek breeds sturdy nomads of religious background comparable to human paganism, while worlds such as the 'frozen snowball' Uzvul finds itself home to an industrious and secretive people that are more calculating then their Aquexian brethren.

On worlds where these groups mix in large numbers, such as the defacto capital Valar, these populations intermingle often, though the distinctly contrasting views and opinions of these groups has led to violence. The government is in a constant struggle to combat this internal race-war as it spirals out of control.

Culture[]

Mithadorn culture has been influenced by a small variety of other nations and factors. Prominent examples are their allies - particularly the French whom the former republic traded with - their status as a fallen state, officially dissolved, and their new home light-years away from the planet they originated from.

Valarian writer Amas'Kalare is considered one of the most influential writers in the remnants, having practically become a pop-idol for his poetic works depicting the retaliative greatness the republic has fallen from, and how their people resolutely claw their way back to those heights. Much of modern Mithadorn literature follows this train of thought, with stories of survivors and the fallen reclaiming their rightful belongings being the most popular.

Religion[]

Since the fall of the Republic, religious beliefs have risen sharply in Mithadorn society. Though varied from world to world, Pagan religions dominate smaller societies, and technologically troubled worlds, while Spodist beliefs have grown in larger cities across richer worlds.

Unfortunately, cults worshiping the four gods of chaos have not been stamped out like the flame of the Republic. Where worshipers of Angazhar are often seen as violent terrorists (for very good reason), others such as the worshipers of Draguros are generally let be because of their seeming complacent behavior outside of private sermons in worship of the Xhodocto. Worshipers of Santorakh are quickly swept of the street by peacekeepers, hoping to keep the madmen out of trouble. Then lastly there are the worshipers of Krathazhrukhal, whom are often being wrenched out of powerful or controlling positions out of heavy distrust of the cults.

History[]

Fall of the Republic[]

With the collapse of the Mithadorn Republic, under the unrelenting onslaught of the Grand Teyan Empire, and the eventual glassing of their homeworld, Sulsua, a major influx of refugees fleeing from the original territories of the Mithadorn republic came flooding into the colony-worlds of Segmentums Ignotum and Umbra. Forced to abandon their allies, homes, and seat of government, the future looked bleak at best and impossible to survive at worst.

Thousands of Mithadorn ships fled through Hyperspace lanes to reach the colonies across the other side of Andromeda, informing the colonies of what had happened, and calling for a new government to be established. Planetary bodies quickly scrambled to begin the establishment of this new government, with the richest of the now former-colonies to hold parliamentary bodies that their neighbours sent representatives to sit on. Eventually, this formed the new seat of government on Valar, though no new nation was ever founded - The Remnants weren't a nation, but a collection of survivors from a dead one.

With the Mithadorn Republic crumbling to dust across the other half of the galaxy, and the establishment of the Remnant's Parliament, efforts quickly went into fortification of their new holdings, and plans on how to return to their homeworld and reclaim it.

The Teyan Subjugation War[]

Main Article - Teyan Subjugation War

An as-of-yet unresolved conflict, the Teyan Subjugation War, kicked off after the collapse of the old Republic and formation of the Remnants is an ongoing struggle by a coalition of Andromeda-native powers and resistance cells against The Grand Teyan Empire in the wake of its invasion of the Andromeda and Milky Way galaxies.

Following the Teyan Blitz that brought down the Mithadorn Republic, the military remnants and exiled governments of several post-Teyan states banded together to form the Muaran Resistance, including the Remnants. Serving as an auxiliary force and providing resources, the Mithadorn are responsible primarily for collecting resources, sometimes illegally, to provide the Resistance what it needs from their colonies in Umbra and Ignotum, far from the battlefields in Exterioris.

Economy[]

With the untimely and sudden fall of the Mithadorn Republic, the former colonies now known as the Remnants have found their economy falling apart. Despite a portion of taxes no longer turning to fund the greater Republic, without its primary trading partner the Remnants have been struggling to economically cope. Materials and goods formerly being shipped off to Exteroris - and through them to the wider galaxy - now have nowhere to be sold; and thus the price have goods have fallen drastically.

The result of this has been a deflationary spiral; a vicious cycle that causes the economy to worsen due to how poor of a state it is in. The government has attempted to solve this through tax cuts, and increased spending (a combination that cannot be maintained forever), though it has not built up much trust in the economic situation by officials nor civilians.

Attempts to trade with minor alien factions close to the Mithadorn Remnant's territories has marginally slowed the rate of deflation, though not by nearly enough to save the economy without intervention.

Military[]

As a fallen state, the Mithadorn Remnants military is ramshackle at best. Cobbled together from their former military, and mercenary technology. Oftentimes with more mercenary personnel than dedicated Mithadorn soldiers. A militia more than a standing army in most senses, government command is lax, with few generals and commanders relaying orders from the central government to the soldiers and hired mercenaries that fight for them.

Army[]

The Mithadorn army is a varied, and disorganised mess of volunteers, conscripted criminals, and mercenary soldiers from other races from outside of the Mithadorn Remnants. Serving as the primary combat force and first line of defence from the myriad threats which threaten the existence of the now-endangered Mithadorn race in the early-29th century. There is no universal uniform or regimental command hierarchy in the army, although it is compulsory for every regiment to have at least one commanding officer to maintain the discipline and morale of the men while watching for any signs of corruption or treachery in the ranks.

Each regiment is typically divided into several companies, each of which is commanded by a Captain or Major. A company normally consists of several hundred warriors, and can serve well as a fighting unit in its own right, with individual companies commonly split off to achieve distinct objectives pertaining to a regiment’s overall mission. Within each company, the unit is further divided. The exact term used varies by type of company, with vehicle companies divided into squadrons, infantry operating in platoons, and artillery operating in batteries. Each platoon, squadron, or battery is typically commanded by a Lieutenant, the most junior of commanding officers, new to the service of the Remnant's Army.

A regiment of the Remnant's Army is not a uniform mass of warriors, equal in might and utility to every other regiment. On the contrary, regiments vary immensely in size, structure, and purpose, from small, deadly, armoured regiments, to bewilderingly large regiments of siege infantry. In truth, the regiment is a difficult thing to define, but some might classify it thusly: a regiment is the operational unit of the Remnant's Army, a discrete formation of soldiers, all trained and equipped to operate in a single way, and all drawn from a single world and its dominant culture.

Nonetheless, some elements remain consistent. At the top of every regiment in the army is a single officer, commonly the Commander or Marshal, who serves as the frontline commander. Traditional expectations are that a officer takes to the field with his men, leading in person.

Navy[]

With much of their former fleet lost in the Mithadorn-GTE War, the Mithadorn Remnant's navy is minimal at best. Mostly comprised of illegally-acquired parts and recreations of naval technology previously acquired from the Talven Empire through trade, the Remnants' navy is a ramshackle husk of its former self.

Much of the modern Remnants' fleet is comprised of multiple ships cobbled together haphazardly in an attempt to gain the benefits of both. These 'ugly ships' while not necessarily efficient or particularly capable, serve their functions both as cruisers, and dogfighters.

Depending on how you look at it (and who you're looking at), the officers of the Navy are either wealthy cowards or badass gentlemen. Of course, for a major officer, most days simply require him or her to press a button and blow something up, then go back to drinking his coffee. And maybe scramble the ground-support flyers, if he's feeling charitable that day.

The naval assets of an entire sector are named after that division of the Remnants'; i.e. all of the fleet assets in the Vokara sector are known as the Battlefleet Vokara, all the assets in the Aewala sector are the Battlefleet Aewaka, and so on. All Mithadorn shipping, civilian or military, is supervised within the jurisdiction of one of these Battlefleets; with the Mithadorn Remnants' on such unstable ground, rules are strict as to keep illegal products out of inhabited space.

Politics[]

The Mithadorn Remnants are administered as a unitary state under the Parliament of Remnant Worlds. The Constitution of the Mithadorn Remnants is uncodified, consisting mostly of collections of disparate written sources, judge-made case law and international treaties from the days as the Mithadorn Republic. As there is no technical difference between ordinary statutes and "constitutional law", Parliament can in turn perform "constitutional reform" simply by passing new laws, and thus has the political power to change or abolish almost any written or unwritten element of the constitution at any time. However, no Parliament can pass laws that future Parliaments cannot change.

The government is led by the Prime Minister, who selects all the remaining ministers. The prime minister and the other most senior ministers belong to the supreme decision-making committee. Parliament is split into two houses: the House of Worlds and the House of Commons. The House of Commons is the lower house and is the more powerful. The House of Worlds is the upper house and although it can vote to amend proposed laws, the House of Commons can usually vote to overrule its amendments.

The cabinet is traditionally drawn from members of the prime minister's party or coalition and mostly from the House of Commons but always from both legislative houses, the cabinet being responsible to both. Executive power is exercised by the prime minister and cabinet.

Foreign Relations[]

Foreign Policy for the Mithadorn Remnants is able to be boiled down to "we don't exist", with the government working to keep its continued survival hidden from anyone outside of selected 'nations of interest'. Such factions will be sent a representative to lobby for support in reestablishing the Mithadorn Republic, rather than supporting the Remnants as a nation in its own right.
