Society[]

One's position in Lotus Eater society is entirely based upon how much wealth they have. Though it can be argued that this is the case in many societies, the Lotus Eaters take this to a new extreme. Everything in their society can be bought and sold, from basic amenities to civil rights. A citizen's job, how much money they make, and how much they are worth is their only measure of worth and most of the citizenry could technically be counted as slaves, with business owners treating employees as commodities that can be bought and sold.

There is some degree of meritocracy in Lotus Eater ranks as more and better quality is required to be rewarded with higher pay and positions by law. So there is some form of social mobility. Still Lotus Eater society has a heavy divide between lower and upper class with absolutely no middle class, and actually becoming the owner of a business is entirely based on inheritance.

Government[]

Lotus Eater Industrial is a plutocracy and a corporatocracy, in other words a government run by wealthy corporations. The Lotus Eaters as a whole are ruled by a council of the ten wealthiest business owners with the wealthiest business owner acting as their president. Membership into the council can be gained and lost in matter of weeks or even days if one becomes even more wealthy then one of the current members on the council and vice versa, with the president in a similar position. Individual systems are owned by whoever has managed to purchase them and can change owners frequently.

Culture[]

Do to the massive wealth gap in their society Lotus Eater culture can be divided into two forms, high and low culture. High culture is that of wealthy business owners and is hedonistic and opulent to the extreme. Massive parties are held almost daily and near infinite access to food, drink, and drugs is theirs. Most don't do any real work, instead leaving actually running anything to AIs and other robotic servants. The rich will even purchase the poor to us in blood sports such as fighting one another, viscous beasts, or even running death mazes.

The poor on the other hand live very different lives, in that they barely even have lives outside of work. From the moment they are born they are designated a job that they will work until they die or are traded by their parent's employer. Their lives are completely regulated and are only give breaks from work to eat, sleep, and be injected with happiness chemicals to keep them passive.

Technology[]

Lotus Eater Industrial is highly specialized in cybernetics and robotics. Cybernetic augmentation is often given to employees to make them better works and to inhibit their mental functions so as to better control them. Similar augmentations are given to soldiers to ensure efficiency in the face of lack of training and loyalty. The wealthy also use it to grant them a form of immortality.
