The Kingdom of the Netherlands, known to the Dutch people as the Koninkrijk der Nederlanden or amongst others as The Netherlands, the Dutch, Holland or Nederland. The Kingdom has its origins on Earth, where it originated from the Dutch Republic in 1518 when it was founded by William of Orange. Over the course of history, the Netherlands became a powerful force within Europe, dominating the seas with their navies and faced adversaries as England, France, Spain and Portugal.
In the modern times of Europe, the Kingdom became part of the European Union and NATO after the devastating and terrible Second World War. When Earth finally reached space they became members of the European Star Republic though left around 2089 when Europe was in shambles after the Third World War. With their country in ruins and partly flooded after the destruction of the Delta Works, the Dutch made a desperate move and left Earth in hopes of finding a better future.
After their exodus, the Dutch wound up in the Finduila Sector of the Endless Space around 2100 and settled themselves in the area. Soon expanding their influance in the sector and dominating the politics and trade of the small sector. For the next 800 years, the Dutch remained ignorant of galactic events though around 2819/21 AQF things might change as the Gigaquadrant catches up with them.
The History of the Netherlands is the history of seafaring people thriving on a lowland river delta on the North Sea in northwestern Europe before they embarked into space, leaving Earth to create their own spacial realm within the Endless Space, the Finduila Sector.
In ancient history on Earth, the region later known as the Netherlands formed a militarized border zone of the Roman Empire and was under increasing pressure from Germanic peoples moving westward. At the start of the Middle Ages, when the Roman Empire collapsed, three dominant Germanic peoples coalesced in the region, Frisians in the north and coastal areas, Low Saxons in the northeast and the Franks in the south. Eventually, during the Middle Ages the region became part of the Holy Roman Empire. For several centuries, lordships such as Brabant, Holland, Zeeland, Friesland, Guelders and others held a changing patchwork of territories as there was no unified equivalent of the modern Netherlands. By 1433, the Duke of Burguny created the Burgundian Netherlands, including later modern Belgium, Luxembourg, and a part of France.
As the Netherlands adopted the new Protestantism, Catholic Spain took measures against them and split the Netherlands, with the "Northern Provinces" speaking dutch and was predominantly Protestant, with a large Catholic minority. It advanced into the Dutch Golden Age, with its zenith around 1667 and in the Netherlands there was a flowering of trade, industry, arts and sciences. The Dutch empire devloped and the Dutch East India Company dominated the seas and exploration of that time.
In the 18th century, its power and wealth declined. The cause, a series of wars with the British and French neighbours weakened it. Losing the North American colony and growing unrest between Orangists and the Patriots, the French Revolution spilling over in 1789 and the conquering by the French Napoleon turned the Netherlands into a French imperial province and little could be done against it. After the collapse of Napoleon in 1813-15, the Kingdom of the Netherlands was established with the House of Orange as its monarch, ruling both Belgium and Luxembourg. Though both regained their independence in 1839. In 1848 the country became a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarch.
During World War I, the country remained neutral though during the Second World War it was invaded and occupied by Nazi Germany when it invaded at 10 may 1940 using blitzkrieg tactics. In 1944-45 the country suffered starvation. Postwar recovory saw rapid economic recovery, followed by the introduction of a welfare state during an era of peace and prosperity. The Netherlands formed an economic alliance with Belgium and Luxembourg, the Benelux, and all three became founding members of the European Union and NATO. In the following decades, the Dutch economy has been closely linked to that of Germany, and is highly prosperous. By 2089, the country was a member of the European Star Republic albeit shorlty. As the Third World War rages across the continent the country was hit hard after the Delta Works were destroyed and flooded major parts of the country. To ensure their survival, the Dutch embarked into space to find a new home, leaving Earth behind. The Dutch fleet was bolstered by many Flemings due to a revived Orangist movement and the percieved threat of an increasingly expansionist France. In this they were even joined by some Waloons and Luxembourgeois who shared the same fear, and almost all active pro-European seperatists from French Flanders which were no longer shielded from French persecution by an increasingly unstable Belgian state. These apparent defections to a neighboring state plus a variety of existing nationalisms eventually sparked the Belgian Civil War on on 23 October 2089, something which only hastened the Dutch departure and led the majority of Flemings to join the Dutch.
Exodus & ProtectorsEdit
December 2089, the Dutch leave Earth onboard their battle cruisers, escorted by their space F16's the Dutch manage to evade capture and destruction by the other European countries as they embark into deep space. It took the Dutch three months to pass the planet march and 1 year to exit the Solar System as they headed deeper into the Milky Way Galaxy, encountering both friendly and unfriendly species. By 2092, three years into their exodus disaster strikes as the entire Dutch fleet is hit by a spacial anomaly that relocates them to the Endless Space, large regions of space devoted of life and planets. As the fleet continues to travel, they face internal strife as people go mad travelling the endless void of space, plundering planets for food and water when encountering. By 2100, the Dutch find themselves in a section of space inhabited by other humanoids and non-humanoids species, the Finduila Sector. With aid and support of various humanoid and non-humanoid species the Dutch settle and colonise various surrounding planets and systems, re-establishing the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Over the following centuries, the Dutch advanced and developed, becoming the main protector of the sector and producer of civilian ships that all might buy in the sector.
Around 2500/400 BQF the Dutch come into contact with a species they refer to as the Crusaders of the Stars, a bird-like species that colonises various planets as well and aid the Dutch in their advancement. Together, they ensure peace until disaster strikes a mere 200 years later when the Crusaders Settlements are wiped away by a species only known as the Harvesters With sheer luck, the Dutch managed to halt their advance though at the cost of most of their advanced ships and navy after a 80 year war. In the centuries after, the Crusaders never returned after the wormhole collapsed and the Dutch remained the sole protectors, challenged by many and slowly recovering from the devastating conflict as most of their kingdom and surrounding territories slowly recover and rebuild.
As the Dutch continued to recover and searched for the Crusaders, the entire Finduila sector was overwhelmed with the arrival of the Galactic Empire of Cyrannus in 2804/06 AQF, an organisation they simply refer to as the Empire. The forces of this Empire overwhelmed the still recovering Dutch Navy and other defenses the Finduila sector could offer and conquered most of the sector within months. By 2805/07AQF, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and most of the Finduila sector was turned into a vassal state of the Empire, known as the Legatus Finduilica. Any resistance was quelled with brutal efficiency and in the following decade, the sector enjoyed peace and order, albeit under the oppression of their tyrannical rulers. Many of the food production produced in the sector was transferred to the Cyrannus Galaxy, turning the once prosperous Finduila Sector in a place where people struggle and fight for survival!
Loyal Dutch officers and individuals maintain a small yet unorganised rebel movement within the sector in hopes of liberating the sector from the tyranny of the Empire. One of last remaining free officers is the Schout bij Nacht (read-admiral) Jan Michiel Tasman, who leads his resistance from onboard the Eendragt. Legatus forced under command of Lady Astrosia defeated the resistance forces at Altena after the Legatus discovered Home Base in February 2819. A year later, the dissidents returned to the Finduila Sector with their newfound allies, the Rambo Loyalist and started their campaigns once again with a frontal assault at the Imperial Installation INL-01. After regaining control over the installation and freeing King Willem IX, the Dutch pledged their support to the Loyalist cause and soon after launched an assault at Garkarg. Facing Rector Schlimm Eklig Statthalter they convinced him to withdraw from Dutch territories to prevent an all out war within the Finduila Sector.
Afterwards, the Dutch King and government dispatched a Dutch fleet to aid the Loyalists within the Quadrant Galaxies. During the battle of Starbase 25 the Dutch made first contact with the Singularim Pact and secured a victory over the Empire. The he Dutch and Loyalists lose the battle of Karzhamarhi-Nui in August 2820, including resulting in the critical loss of one of their Acclamator-class ship.
On August 14th 2820, the Kingdom sign the Treaty of Utrecht- which established military and economic alliance with the Kingdom of Spain. The treaty ensured a pledge to aid each other when difficulties arised and allowed citizens to travel freely in both realms without the use of a visum though military travel required permission to cross the borders. In return the Spanish trasferred control of the ABC-island on Earth in hopes of drawing the Dutch back to Earth. In addition the Dutch sold over 60 Hollandia-classes to the Spanish.
The original Kingdom of the Netherland was located between latitudes 50° and 54° N, and longitudes 3° and 8° E on Earth before their exodus into space. They also held various territories in the Carribean. Currently, the Kingdom of the Netherlands was formed with most of its key space in the Finduila Sector within the Endless Space. Important planets within the Kingdom include its ecumenopolis capital of Groot Amsterdam, the cultural planet of Van Gogh and more. It also included various military forfications and bases along its borders, including Rottum. Extra-territorial planets include the independent and criminal space port of Nassau.
- Twelve Provinces
The Kingdom of the Netherlands is divided into twelve sector provinces like the original Netherlands on Earth were:

Government & PoliticsEdit
The Kingdom of the Netherlands has been a constitutional monarchy since 1815, and due to the efforts of Johan Rudolph Thornbecke, a parliamenary democracy since 1848. Dutch politics and governance are characterised by an effort to achieve broad consensus on important issues, within both the political community and society as a whole. The monarch is the head of state, as present King Willem IX of the Netherlands. Constitutionally, the position is equipped with limited powers but by law, must be periodically briefed and consulted on government affairs. Depending on the personalities and relationships of the King and the ministers, the monarch might have influence beyond the power granted by the Constitution of the Netherlandds, as is the case with King Willem IX after the Legatus removed the cabinet in 2804.
- Head of State
The current Head of State and Monarch of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is King Willem IX of the Netherlands.
- Executive Branch
The executive power of the Kingdom of the Netherlands lies with the Council of Ministers, chosen electives by the people. The cabinet usually consists of 13 to 16 ministers and a varying number of state secretaries. The head of government is the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, who often is the leader of the largest party of the coalition. The Prime Minister is a primus inter pares, with no explicit powers beyond those of the other ministers.

The Netherlands has a developed a strong and stable economy, and have been playing a special role in the Fiduila economy for many centuries since their arrival in 2100. Since then shipping, fishing, agriculture, trade, and banking have been leading sectors of the Dutch economy as they were on Earth in old times. The Netherlands has a high level of economic freedom and are the strongest economy in the Finduila Sector. The Dutch are prone for deliving high quality goods and commerce and expect to be paid in due for them.
To improve their economy, the Dutch are key experts in attracting foreign direct investment (due to low taxes on profits) and is one of the five largest investors within the Cyrandia Cluster at whole.
The Dutch agricultural sector is highly mechanised and modern, having a strong focus on intergalactical exports. Well known and loved product include the large variety in cheese, milk products and stroopwaffles.
Aside from food products, a significant portion of Dutch agricultural exports consists of fresh-cut plants, flowers, and flower bulbs.
The shipping hyperlanes which crisscross the Finduila Sector- into other galaxies are one of busiest in the Cluster and well protected and patrolled by the Dutch Naval Forces are vital to the export and econom of the Dutch. The most notable, the Batavia Route runs from within the Kingdom towards the eastern borders of the Kingdom where the wormhole is located to the Space in Between, giving access to the economies and hyperlane trade routes of both the Quadrant Galaxies and the Cyrannus Galaxy.
Major trade companies include the Dutch Trade Company (DTC) that make use of the reliable Hollandia-class haulers to ferry cargo and passenger across the sector and beyond.
- Transportation Civilian Vehicles
The Dutch ecnomy relies heavily on export, as such the hyperlanes and transportation of cargo and passengers are vital to the economy. The table below features the known Dutch civilian cargo transportation vehicles, though most are unarmed or have limited weapon capabilities in accordance with the Dutch Law. Most of the vessels are constructed by the Hollandia Fleet Yards.
Society & CultureEdit
The population of the Kingdom of the Netherlands consists of Humans with origins dating back to the western civilisation of Earth. The Netherlands has a rich and diverse culture that is unique to the small country and later space kingdom. The Dutch have their own traditions, celebrations and preferences. The Dutch have a strong culture and are often described as being blunt, intellectual, adventurers and explorers throughout history, but modern and liberal as well. Yet the Dutch have their quircks as well, they love cycling, they're logical, not touchy feely and are quite egalitarian.
The average height of a Dutch human is around 1.81 metres for adult males and 1.67 metres for adult females. Research indicates this might be the result of their good standards of healthcare, sanitation, and nutrition. The Dutch have a large input of milk product like cheese and milk.
The Dutch culture is known for it kind and gentle people, proud of their history with a keen nose for making profits, culture and art. Some major painters are from the Netherlands (Van Gogh, Rembrandt). It is also known for its architecture, water management and fine nose for food and drink, their loe of cycling and nature. The Dutch main language is Dutch, though they can speak English and Galactic Basic as well due to being tutored these subjects since mid-school and are mandatory exams.
The Dutch celebrate Christmas around the 25th and 26th of December, though a more popular holiday is known as the "Sinterklaasfeest" with the arrival of Sinterklaas & Zwarte Piet in early november which last till the 5th of december.
Military & DefenceEdit

(I will fight for my fatherland)”
- - Ministry of Defence
The Netherlands has one of the oldest standing armies in Europe (raised between 1576 - 1588) and served the Netherlands ever since. It was first established as such by Prince Maurice of Nassau. Current branches in use:
- Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF)
The Royal Netherlands Air Force (Koninklijke Luchtmacht) provides the fighters and transport vehicles for the Dutch military forces. Though their use evolved from operating fighter crafts in air to operating them in space, they never changed the official name to honor the past and accomplishments of the airforce.
- Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN)
The Royal Netherlands/Dutch Navy (Koninklijke Marine) is the Navy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and its origins date back to the eighty years war (1568–1648). It is part of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of the Kingdom. Upon their space era, the Dutch Navy excists out of effective and powerful battle cruisers. Their starfighters are based upon the old designs of the F16, an effective and trusted jet fighter of the 21st century. The Navy acts as a defense and exploration forces.
Royal Netherlands Battle Cruiser
Transgalactic Military Assault Ship
|The 752 meter long Acclamator-class transgalactic military assault ship were sieged upon the liberation of the Netherlands in July 2820 from the Legatus Finduilica. These modified and upgraded vessels are equipped with sensors, hangar bays, crew quarters and a command centre. They became a vital support vessels for the Navy and often serve as command ships in taskforces.
The hangar bays can be used to store starfighters, refuel and repair them and train new pilots. With its 752 meter length and clear coloration. It is capable of landing at the surface of a planet and take off with relative ease as wel.
Royal Netherlands Battle Cruiser
|The Dutch Battle Cruiser Dirk Hartog-class is deployed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is their mainstream defense, patrol and exploration vessel in service since 2089.
It is the very class the Dutch used to embark on their exodus and remained in service as a patrol vessel.
It can carry 2 Space F16's in its lower hangar decks. It is equipped with strong laser batteries for defense and offense and is equipped with shieldings as well.
It has an average size of 330 meters and requires a crew complement of 362 personnel to operate at maximum efficiency.
Royal Netherlands Light Corvette
|The Dutch Light Corvette Defender-class is deployed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands since 2800 and is one of their newest and most advanced and modern vessels. Though far larger than everything before, the class signals the protector role the Dutch wanted to take over the Finduila Sector.
It has two powerful engines, capable of hyperspace and the vessel has a decent armanent, allowing it to take on far larger vessels and starfigthers as well.
The class has an average lenght of 105 meters and needs a minimum of 10 personnel to operate at maximum efficiency. By 2819, many of these vessels found their use in dissident or civilian hands, though with lesser armanents. The Blue colored versions indicate they are part of the Royal Navy and have stronger weapons and shields and are relative a little bit more faster.
