28th Century to Present[]

In July of 2802, with the formation of the Human Superstate, the ISD, being a member of the now defunct Orion League, became a member, though not as willingly as the unificationist Director at the time, Mahmut İsmet Atatürk, had hoped for. The ISD then began to demilitarize, though most of the armed forces remained due to the failure of the Atatürk administration to enforce the demilitarization and the increase of government corruption and military-government officials. Private donors and uncooperative planets also began to train more military personnel, though this went unnoticed by the government. This buildup of military along with public disdain of Atatürk's unificationist and liberal policies resulted in the 2804 - 2805 Siranian political crisis. That culminated in the 2805 Siranian coup d'état, when the National Council for Security took over and forced the resignation of Atatürk in 2807 and the appointment of Recep Rauf Çakmak as Prime Minister. This was the legal end of Atatürk's first term, after which all elections were frozen and Abdullah Hollande, the Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Siranian Army, was made Director. The former Director was assassinated in 2809 by Director Hollande. This coup led to an unofficial increase in military personnel in Siranian space, while Recep Rauf Çakmak, the new Prime Minister, maintained the official state of demilitarization.

In March 2806 with the collapse of the Human Superstate, Çamak began to officially militarize the Directorate, and many political analysts of the time, such as the now-dead Hashem bin Hussein, suspected that Çamak planned for a war, though none knew who the Prime Minister was targeting. However, these plans were teminated by Director Hollande in 2807. Siran began to assert their political independence, as well as renewing agreements with other factions that had existed prior to the Schism, such as its trade agreements with France. Hollande and Çamak sought more than maintining the status quo anet bellum, and made motions to increase the influence of Siran within the human nations and beyond.

While the ISD was now a directorate in name, its government was more of a military junta, with the power resting in the National Council for Security, a council of admirals and generals who exercised absolute power, with a puppet dictator put as the head of state. Until the rule of Abdullah Hollande, the highest figure in the hierarchy of command was the Prime Minister, in this case Recep Rauf Çakmak. Recep was also the Leader of the Council and the Commander-in-Chief of the Siranian Stellar Forces. However, upon the appointment of underestimated Hollande to the dictatorship, he quickly used his charisma to attract many supporters amongst the members of the National Council. He used this power to pass a new set of laws, further increasing the power of the dictator while lessening the power of the Prime Minister and the Council. These laws were enforced by Hollande's position as Deputy Leader of the Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Siranian Army.

By 2809, the ISD was almost a pure dictatorship, with Hollande on the verge of absolute power. However, he was resisted by most of the National Council. In 2809, while Hollande was leading an extermination force on the outskirts of the capital, Recep had taken control of the capital city. He had locked down the National Council, detaining all suspected "Hollandists". With his subordinate Recep Yildirim, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the SSF (Siranian Stellar Forces) and Secretary-General of the National Council, he brought the Stellar Forces to the capital for a military takeover. He had publicly broadcasted the executions of the suspected Hollandists and all in the Imperial Siranian Army stationed in the capital with significant ties to Hollande all over the directorate. He also proclaimed himself supreme leader until the situation had returned to normal. Upon hearing the news, Hollande launched an attack on the capital, despite the fact that he had only ground forces. Despite this, a mass defection in the National Council and Stellar Forces, along with tactical genius led to victory for the Hollandists. They then had all resistance executed by firing squad, and Çamak was burned alive with a flamethrower. Hollande then disbanded the National Council for Security as the ruling body and used the support of the ISA (Imperial Siranian Army) to support his rule as Grand Marshal of the Imperial Siranian Directorate. He then placed his own military personnel in charge of the SSF. He then imposed martial law and began to turn the directorate into a police state. Armed forces and police were given much authority in the form of unchecked arrests and the power form its own verdicts for these criminals. This was intended to root out any opposition, though many fled to the extragalctic colonies in Andromeda and Bunsen, where many were already quite anti-coup. Nonetheless, millions have been killed or imprisoned as a result of these arrests, and many more will continue to be. The rule of Grand Marshal Abdullah Hollande has irrevocably changed the course of the Imperial Siranian Directorate.

Politics and Government[]

The Imperial Siranian Dictatorship is a unitary state, with the central government being in absolute control, the sectorial governments exercising only the powers granted to them by the central government. However, these powers are almost non-existent. Sectors cannot pass their own laws and any degree of autonomy is unheard of. Prior to the 2809 coup, some sectors had degrees of autonomous devolved power, but these powers were delegated by the National Council for Security and could be taken away at any time. Once the ISD gained independence, it was an absolute monarchy, but after the 2632 Rebellion a constitutional monarchy was enacted, but that was replaced by a parlimentary republic.

From then on, there have brief intervals of oligarchies and military juntas, such as the 2707 - 2714 Council for National Peace and Order Government, the chaotic years of 2727 to 2768 which were dominated by dictatorships and oligarchies, militaristic or not, and the May 19, 2806 coup d'état, when the NCS (National Council for Security) took over in response to the political crisis at the time. This rule lasted until the Hollandist coup d'état in June 2, 2809. Since 2809, the Hollandists began to repeal the 2807 constitution, they declared martial law and nationwide curfew, arrested opposing politicians and anti-coup activists, imposed information censorship and took control of all media.

Grand Marshal[]

The Grand Marshal of the Imperial Siranian Dictatorship, Grand Marshal Abdullah Hollande has ruled from June 2, 2809 to the present day. The Law of the Forces, passed on June 20, 2809, states that the grand marshal shall have unquestioned authority which is to be enforced by the three branches of government and the army (in all cases these overlap). Prior to the 2809 coup, the Director (the former title) was little more than a figurehead and a symbol of the Siranian nation and military. After the coup, the Grand Marshal became the head of the Siranian Armed Forces (SAF) and the Field Marshal of the Army and the Marshal of the Siranian Stellar Forces. Another power of the Grand Marshal listed in the Law of the Army is the Grand Marshal has the power to appoint his own heir, thus making the office of Grand Marshal somewhat hereditary. However, the heir must have at least two of the following qualities: a decade of experience in the SAF, having fought in at least three major battles or being at the military rank of Lieutenant General in the Army and Stellar Marshal in the Stellar Forces or higher. Hollande has two sons, Mustafa and Abdülhalik, both having served fifteen years in the SAF, with Mustafa also having the rank of General in the Imperial Siranian Army. Mustafa therefore qualifies as an appointable heir, and he was made heir on July 3, 2809. The Grand Marshal's body of aides is the National Council of Assistance (NCA), the Hollandist successor to the National Council for Security. The Grand Marshal and his family's official home is the Grand Palace, a renovated version of the NCS building in the capital. On October 3, 2811, Abdullah further solidified the imperial position and duties of the Grand Marshal by officially making his title His Excellency, Abdullah I, by the Grace of the Armed forces and the Will of the Grand Marshal, Grand Marshal of the Imperial Siranian Dictatorship, Lord of Siran, and Grandmaster of the Siranian Armed Forces.

As of February 2017, there has only been one lawful Grand Marshal, Abdullah I. However, many failed attempts on his life have occurred over the eight years of his reign, and despite the best attempts of the Siranian Intelligence Forces, it is not likely that they will end soon.

Abdullah I is known for being pressured by the National Council of Assistance to encourage anti-French sentiment, and while it is apparent that he is privately a Francophobe, publicly it appears that the Grand Marshal is willing to work with the French if it is in the interests of Siran and himself. Therefore, he has continued trade agreements with the Third French Empire that had started during the time of the French Sixth Republic, and has made efforts to increase the amount of trade. Abdullah I has begun a pro-Mashriqi foreign policy, declaring friendship between the two nations as well as forming a defensive pact and opening borders and trade. The Grand Marshal has also allowed police and armed forces to arrest and hold civilians on trial without warrants, and in these trials armed forces can give sentences that they deem fit, and only the Grand Marshal can reject their verdicts. The majority of these arrests have been directed at members of the Pan-Orion Unificationist Party and its Siranian derivative party, the Siran and Humanity United Party (SHUP), the latter being an exiled party in Siran. Notable arrests include that of SHUP chairman François Gaudreau, Deputy Marshal of Public Health, that of Marshal of the Office of the Deputy Marshal, Ekmeleddin Hazinedar, who was suspected to have SHUP ties and had possible links with the late Prime Minister Çamak, and even that of Abdullah's son Abdülhalik when he was suspected of working with the opposition, though he was later released.

Deputy Marshal[]

The role of the Deputy Marshal of the Imperial Siranian Directorate, Mustafa Hollande, is largely ceremonial, and while no precedent for who should become Deputy Marshal has been set, Abdullah I has set forward that the heir to the Dictatorship should be appointed to the office of Deputy Marshal. However, who should be made Deputy Marshal in the lack of an heir or if the position exists at all durign such a time has not been addressed in the Law of the Forces.

No powers and duties are delegated to the Deputy Marshal in the Law of the Forces, but Deputy Marshal Mustafa has been granted powers by the Grand Marshal, as the Grand Marshal has the power to delegate powers to anyone. Deputy Marshal Mustafa, for example, is head of the Council of Marshals of Siran, also known as the cabinet of Siran, appoint sectorial governors and call for new members of the Council of Marshals (the Grand Marshal has the final say, though).
