“We fight battles because they must be fought.”

There was a time when the mere mention of the Hyperon Grand-Khanate struck fear in the hearts of even the most hardened warriors. We were seen as a plague of mindless brutes that ravaged our neighbors. These views were true of course. But in more recent years, our image has changed. We're hailed as heroes now and respected by our peers. I wonder if this is what old Hyperon wanted for us when he founded the Grand Khanate.

The Hyperon Grand Khanate is a large kratocratic Empire created and ruled by members of the Nataak species. The Grand Khanate itself has existed for over 7000 years since its founding and has participated in many wars and events during the history of Tyris Major, Milky Way, and Mirus galaxies.

History[]

Pre-History[]

The Nataak do not seem to have much in the way of recorded history before the founding of the Hyperon Grand Khanate. However, according to salvaged Nebulorian texts and old Lavatuft expedition records, the Nataak did not form any large scale unified space-faring empires before 8000 BC. They did achieve space flight before 6000 BC, but their species' ambitious, competitive, and violent nature caused massive infighting between any colonies that were established under the orders of the original Nataak homeworld. Eventually the Nataak had spread across roughly 100 star systems by 5600 BC and had established separate small empires that waged countless wars against each other. Supposedly each of the leaders of these empires, calling themselves Khans, were attempting to dominate all Nataak-kind.

Formation[]

A Khan by the name Khan Hyperon rose to prominence around 5400 BC and began a massive conquest of the other Nataak empires. In 5380 BC, Hyperon declared himself "Khan of Khans" after conquering 78 of the 133 star systems. In order to mange his, at the time, large empire, he designated himself as the Great-Khan and made his officers and other great warriors Khan of their own star systems. By 5278 BC, many of the independent Khans that Great-Khan Hyperon had been waging war against surrendered to his massive army. They swore fealty to him and retained their territories, though Great-Khan Hyperon was their leader.

Great-Khan Hyperon did what no Nataak ever could, and had unified all Nataak-kind under his banner. He founded the Hyperon Grand Khanate late into the year of 5278 BC.

Expansion and Early Wars[]

The Grand Khanate expanded via peaceful colonization in its early years. Around 4800 BC, generations after the death of Grand Khan Hyperon, the Nataak began experienced a boom in natural resources such as metals and food. Their population began to explode, and their species' greed was very apparent. Initially the Grand Khanate quenched their thirst for resources by expanding into unclaimed star systems, but this was not enough. By 4450 BC, a bit of infighting between the many Khans ensued over resources and territory despite being united underneath a Great-Khan. Before an all-out civil war could start, Great-Khan Lesh ordered raids on surrounding empires to satisfy his Khan underlings. This later evolved into actual full scale wars against other empires. Khans who participated in these wars could expect to attain riches, resources, and large amounts of territories based on their contributions to the war effort.

This caused the Nataak people to form a culture that promoted strength, war, and military prowess above all else. This left them rather quarrelsome even with the prospect of riches beyond Grand Khanate territory and every now and then a Khan would rise up to challenge the Great-Khan for power.

Biskin Rim Wars[]

In 4430 BC, the Biskin Empire began a series of conquests called the Biskin Rim Wars in an attempt to enforce their rule over the northern territories of Tyris Major. Great-Khan Lesh, who was still the Great-Khan at the time, was vigilant and managed to gather his Khans to fight the first full-scale defensive war in the Grand Khanate's history. The Biskin were steamrolling through most of the territories they sought to claim from other fledgeling nations. When the Biskin Empire's fleets entered Grand Khanate territory, the technologically superior Biskin were able to tear through the Grand Khanate fleets that were meant to be protecting the borders. They arrogantly split their forces up to attack multiple systems at once, assuming that the Grand Khanate would be unable to defend themselves. Great-Khan Lesh anticipated this tactic and planned accordingly.

When the Biskin fleets arrived in the systems they planned to occupy, they were met with the full ferocity and might of the Grand Khanate's fleet. The Grand Khanate, while possessing inferior technology, were far more numerous than the divided Biskin fleet and delivered serious casualties to the Biskin Empire. The Biskin, assuming that they had underestimated their foe and believing that the Grand Khanate had more fleets deeper in its territory, decided to retreat from Grand Khanate controlled space. In reality the Grand Khanate's full fleet was on display during their battles against the Biskin and there actually were no major fleets protecting the rest of Grand Khanate territory. They had successfully tricked the Biskin into believing that the Grand Khanate was a superior military force that was not worth the effort to conquer. This became known famously throughout Tyris Major as Lesh's Bluff, and it is still a military tactic that is used today.

The Biskin Rim Wars would continue elsewhere in the galaxy, but the Grand Khanate would watch safely from the sidelines.
