Sorcerer-Prophet Grothei, known by his title of Grothei the Cruel, is the Rathan Sorcerer who once mastered the Khrath-Konar Forges and all the miserable souls sent to work and slave within. Though once a powerful figure, after the arrival of the Xeranbha, Grothei and his people fled into this universe, taking as many warships, slaves and warriors with to carve out a new empire in this universe. After traveling to the Prime version of Mirus, Grothei was drawn to a Space Station, and made his way onboard, meeting with the mystics and leaders of the empire that ruled it, and joining them.

Grothei, having worked his way into the workings of the Kajagii, is a high ranking figure within the military and industrial sectors of the Covenant, while also acting as a strange figure within the Aswanabarii Order, not being quite a full member in the Prophets, Inquisitors or Knights, yet still holding a wide range of command and power within the Covenant, despite his status as something of an outsider amongst them.

History[]

Birth[]

Grothei was born on the homeworld of Rathan, and was take by the Sorcerer-Prophets at a young age to train him as one of their future leaders and commanders, being taken as a student under the Sorcerer-Lady Vergari, a high ranking Sorcerer of the Hellfire-Lords Path, and trained by her to master most of the things within the Spire. He was a noted rival of the future Lord of the Spire, Drazgoarth the Ash-bringer, and vied for power and influence with a student of the Chronomancer's Path, named Crothal, who he looked down on for his slave origins, though later came to respect him once he killed his own master, Vrimkul the Blessed. Vergari, meanwhile, grew annoyed with her student, as, while he had mastered most of everything she had taught him, he seemed hesitant to make his move or try and betray her. As she was approaching death soon, due to her old age, and the ravages their Sorcerous powers had taken on their bodies, she would have to hand done the reigns of Khrath-Konar Forge to her incompetent sons. Believing she had taken a student with all the skill but none of the bravado to lead, she began to seek out other students.

Insulted that she would doubt him, Grothei contacted her, and stated he was not waiting for her to die and let her idiotic seed take command. He was merely gathering knowledge for himself and to strengthen the Forge and it's holdings. Demanding he prove if, Vergari desired a duel between the two, which Grothei accepted. They meet in the pits below the Spire of Khigal Fortress, a place where many Sorcerers dueled, either to relieve stress, claim ownership of another forge or workshop, or for a student to surpass his master, or be cast into the spikes below and broken by the fall and the fires and the spikes.

Grothei arrived 15 minutes after his master, who waited with several witnesses, either those from the Khrath-Konar Forge, the Hellfire-Lords Spire, or simply those off of work and eager to see blood be spilled in the duels. Already, Warriors and others were excitedly chattering amongst themselves. Vergari had a reputation for breaking her students well, and draining the life-fluid slowly and painfully from their bodies when they did not measure up to her expectations. Bets were made of how long Grothei would last, with those betting on his survival laughed at for such foolery.

Grothei drew his Aster Blade, and Vergari did the same, and what followed was an immediate clash of power between the two and their Dark Alchemy powers. Grothei had many skills he had learned, but lack the breadth and depth of knowledge that Vergari held. However, he was younger, and his youth enabled him to tape deeper into his power and strength, and over-power her own attacks, before forcing her into melee. Although armed with strength befitting an old tested piece of iron, she could not withstand the quick but brutal show of force he gave, but, despite losing, never the less signaled that she was quite proud of his strength and ability.

As he had defeated her in combat, Grothei was now leader of Khrath-Konar, his trial by combat trumping any blood ties Vergari's children had, and forcing them into obscurity under his rule.

Master of the Forge[]

Overtime, as the master of the Forge, Grothei would come to command countless, millions in fact, slaves to do his bidding and construct and build countless war machines and abominations for the Rathanii War-Effort, even leasing his forges out to Warlords from other provinces of the Gigaquadrantic Hegemony, once they had conquered the Rathanii and imposed their will upon them, though kept their societal and government structures mostly intact. So long as they could supply him with more slaves, he would have no issue building whatever they desired. During his reign, he would see Khahoten the Black-Hearted risen as a Warlord in his command, and leader of Grothei's armies. Due to his horrific treatment of slaves, and constant need for more to be broken and used in all sorts of arcane rituals, construction and other tasks, Grothei was soon given the title "The Cruel", one he delighted in living up to.

It is said that, over the pump and hiss of machines at working, and slaves groaning and screaming in agony with their every effort, one could hear Grothei's twisted laughter over the forges, as his Hell-Smiths and minor Sorcerers push for further and further weapons and twisted creations. Grothei had an appetite for violence equal to his love of industry, and often journeyed throughout hte Hegemony to assist in putting revolts down, and used every opportunity to gather more slaves and wealth for himself. After Kirata Cethannia's rise to power, he was made one of the Seven Sorcerer-Prophets in power, assigned to the Domain of Intelligence and Inquisition.

His quest for further power and slaves for his forges was cut short, when the Prophets received visions of the arrival of the Xeranbha. Knowing they could not defeat it, and would be consumed by it in it's headless hunger for more hosts and to spread it's "Purity", the Sorcerers began to gather resources, in secret, towards breaching dimensional gateways and barriers, and jumping away from this universe, into the Prime Universe. Many of his troops were sent as scouts into the First Gigaquadrant, to set up relay stations and forward bases to prepare for the rest of the fleet, as his forges got to work, creating hyperspace drives and engines to breach into the Prime Universe.

After many years of work, as the deadline approached, the Sorcerer-Prophets finally finished, and Kirata had her most loyal of subjects gathered within the mighty Temple Ships and other war vessels, while keeping her most disloyal behind. With that, Grothei was among those kept, and he journeyed with her into the Prime Universe, escaping the deathly touch of the Xeranbha.

In the Prime Universe[]

After the settling of Rathan Nova, Grothei oversaw the construction of many new forges along the planet's surface, preparing his slaves for their life of toil within the savagely hot forges and workshops, before tasking Khahoten the Black-Heart, with the continued expansion of Kirata's interests and power. Kirata tasked Grothei, in turn, with scouting out the universe, sending her most trusted Sorcerer minions with seeing what awaited them in this universe, and preparing themselves accordingly for the coming tide of Rathanii power.

Traits[]

Personality[]

Grothei is a noted sadist, a powerful warlord of savage disposition, and hate-filled malice. He glories in backstabbing and out-witting his foes, feels nothing but twisted joy in seeing his slaves rotting below him in the pits, and is almost too eager to take in a new catch of slaves and sentient meat for his own purposes. While he enjoys backstabbing and murdering his foes and rivals, there is nothing that gains his joys more then toying with and torturing his foes upon the rack and his chambers as they beg for death. He will often have their bodies preserved and readied to display their bodies as trophies for others to say.

He is one of the more devious and cunning of the Prophets, projecting the image of an often loyal and courageous servant to the Queen, Kirata, but secretly planning to gain power for himself and annihilate her when the time comes. He would enjoy nothing more then make himself the great Warlock-King of Rathan Nova, but must wait until the time is right.

Appearance[]

Grothei appears like most Rathanii, shorter then others of his kind, and his body withered and scared by years of abusing his powers and abilities, leaving him with the appearance of an ancient creature despite his relative youth as a Prophet. His robes and armor are simple, but highly protective, as he will often travel out to capture more slaves, from even hard targets.

Abilities[]

Grothei yields many of the powers of other Sorcerer Prophets, preferring to make use of hellfire and lightning-based attacks upon his foes, His powers are trained and honed around the idea of inflicting pain, and bringing foes to the brink of death, but never letting them pass, delighting in their pain and misery. Like many Sorcerer-Prophets, he prefers relying on his various powers and "spells" to overwhelm and annihilate his victims.
