Chapter 1[]

Akanri felt sick looking out over the vast, dark sea whose rolling waves rocked the rickety deck of the sailing ship she stood upon. Feeling bile rise in her throat the young devilos women leaned over the ship to hurl out her dinner in the black waters. Growling she narrowed her bright blue eyes and shook herself to cast the water from the freezing rain off her brilliant red scales and proceeded to preen through the feathers of the two pairs of wings growing from her shoulder blades. Hearing foot steps Akanri looked up from her preening to see the ship's captain standing before her with a cocky grin upon his face as he spoke to her, "hey there lightning bolt why don't you come a join us inside for some feasting."

"Cut it with the dumb nickname Vocter," Akanri snapped, "and I have no interest in joining your partying, besides it didn't go so well last time did it."

"Yeah," muttered Vocter rubbing the back of his head, "but did you have to break Hexer's arm, the surgeon said he's going to have to amputate it."

"He grabbed my ass!" protested Akanri loudly.

"Right, right, and now I'm down a sailor," sighed Vocter, "look I came to tell that we spotted land not but an hour ago, we'll be at the shores of the volcanic frontiers soon."

"Good," replied Akanri shortly turning from Vocter to face the sea, and then her frown deepened as she felt her stomach churn again at the sight of the rolling waves.

"Don't know why want to go to that wasteland there's no bounty hunting to be found there, at least none that's good," Vocter said, "you could always take up my offer and stay on as security, the sea isn't so bad once you get use to her."

Akanri turned back to him, scowled, and crossed her arms before replying shortly, "my answer to that hasn't changed, besides I'm not there for bounties I have personal reasons."

"Alright," said Vocter raising his hands, "my offer stands until you leave the ship and do come inside at least, you'll catch a cold out here."

He went inside and Akanri grumbled something under her breath before looking to the sky. Giving a sigh she decided that it was better to be warm and inside then out here in the rain and cold. Besides she thought with a smirk as she headed inside, it could be a good chance to regal them all with tales of my heroism.
