Many gods are out there, above us, but only four keep constant watch. Many oppose the forces of destruction, but only four protect us from them. For these and many more reasons, the Four Pillars of Existence, foremost amongst all gods, earn their lordship and our daily devotion.
Four Pillar Worshipper
The Four Pillars, as they are known colloquially, are four Essentials godforms known for taking active roles in the protection of the universe against forces normally affiliated with Chaos. They are also perhaps a group of the few entities in the entirety of existence that are aware of the Xhodocto's existence, dreading their ancient power, and devotedly opposing them and their minions at every turn. These gods dedicate their energies, power, armies and perhaps whole existence to the protection of the universe, to which they are often called the first and last line of defense against forces beyond reckoning.
Overview
There has been a war of Chaos and Order, where as the latter seeks to prevent the former's natural course of dismantling that which spikes as structured, harmonious, and orderly. The question of how long has this destructive and violent conflict been going is a puzzle to even the wisest and most intelligent of scholars.
What it is known about this war is recorded to selected few individuals, most of them immortal beings, and selected few mortals, that have recorded their views on this as the "Four Pillars", and it has endured through religious and evocative texts alluding to their commitment to the universe and their will to keep on fighting, gaining power to vanquish that which has been deemed undefeatable. Let there be no mistake, the four entities that compose this loose alliance exist, and their membership's tenure is unknown due to their timeless nature.
The Four Pillars are said to be at the head of all Essentials mainly because of their spotlight as protectors, preservers, and their deeds which are depicted as heroic (and on some accounts tragic). Although there are other godforms that stand on equal power, none of them hold the same influence, and even less so the Four's relentless goal to protect.
The Pillars
Volzara is usually considered the de facto leader of the Four Pillars, namely because of her drive towards protecting the universe rather than antiquity. Volzara, existing out of time and virtually controlling its flow, is a caring goddess for the countless beings dwelling in the branches she so easily manipulates with a simple gesture of her fingertips.
Vi'Naherza, god of life and supreme master of Life Essence. A brother to Volzara, the Great Warden is perhaps the most detached of all four gods despite his inherent connection to one of the most primordial principles of existence. Perhaps its a strange humility what drives him, or perhaps it is a convoluted pride. Nevertheless, Vi'Naherza cares deeply for the fate of the Universe, and he is willing to sacrifice anything in favor of those who pledge, directly and indirectly, their lives to him.
