The Ducduc empire is run by the ducduc species. They are a non-invasive empire known for being friendly to new faces and for being great allies. Compared to other empires, the Ducduc empire is relatively young, but through relationships with other empires and species they have managed to thrive in their section of the Milky way galaxy.

History[]

The Ducduc empire was greatly influenced by their history on planet crebectos. The most notable portion of this history was during the civilization stage. Specifically the horrible war between 3 competing nations. The names of which are not currently known by species other than the ducduc. However the colours that each nation represented are understood to be green, red, and blue respectively.

The war started to take shape after many generations of tension, disagreement on beliefs, and competition for resources lead the nations of crebectos to distrust one another. Eventually the massive red nation waged war on the rest of the world. They went on a quest to unite the planet by forcefully making the other nations become part of the red nation. This caused the small blue nation and the rather large green nation to create an alliance purely to try and prevent such a radical idea. This war lasted many generations causing large scale suffering until somehow against all odds the red nation lost the war. Ironically the war was won by the green nation managing to convince everyone including their allies to merge with their nation. The end result of this was the Ducduc empire.

After the inhabitants of crebectos experienced such a long and hard conflict in their world, they developed a culture that avoided large scale conflict at all costs, and figured that the best philosophy for when making first contact with alien life is to be as friendly and welcoming as possible. Even their empire is named after their own species, purely to make it easier for newcomers to get to know them.

Government[]

Not all the details about duduc government is known but what is known is that they have a similar system to a democracy.

Instead of having a single governor, ducduc are led by a group of individuals. The individuals are chosen in a similar way to how democracy works, but instead of voting who gets to run, the ducduc essentially do the reverse and vote who doesn't get to run. This may seem inefficient though its made easier by the fact that not everyone gets to have a campaign. Ducduc have a system to narrow down the amount of individuals running to just one mid sized group, otherwise voting would take too long. In order to get the opportunity to run a campaign in the first place, candidates will have to participate in a leadership competition that is played out in a seres of great tests and is comparable to a sporting event in nature.

The few winning ducduc get to start campaigns on why they shouldn't be voted out, the group is then narrowed down until there are at least 5 individuals who are all simultaneously governor. Ducduc have systems to prevent corruption such as voting to have a governor replaced if the need arises.

Culture[]

Ducduc have a rich variety of different cultures not quite unlike how humans have a wide range of cultures on earth. However nearly all ducduc cultures have things in common when it comes to interacting with other empires.

When meeting with another empire, the Ducduc empire always makes sure to get to know more about their neighbour. They will ask questions about their history, what they like to do, their philosophy, and much more. In doing so they are much more likely to be favoured by other empires and are able to experience the benefits of everyone being friendly to them. This is also the reason why the Ducdcu empire is considered to be the trader archetype because actions such as this often get them better trade deals as a side effect.

Simply being friendly will not always work for when interacting with aggressive empires and in the event that they do encounter such an empire they will first try to reason with them and potentially even give gifts to aggressors in hopes to give them a change of heart. If that doesn't change the empire's attitude the Ducduc empire will try to avoid them. If the empire pursues the ducduc have many ways to hopefully make aggressors leave them alone. One way is to show their military might by blowing up space rocks and show off their tech among other things. If the Ducduc empire has a particularly bad relationship with another empire they will resort to playing dirty tricks and try to embarrass the empire or spread rumours. This causes the empire to have a distinct disadvantage when it comes to relations to those that are close to the ducduc's area, hopefully forcing the unwanted visiter to leave. If war starts the Ducduc empire can get the help of their many allies to take down or chase off the aggressor. The ducduc military is full of units specifically meant to support their allies and make them stronger, furthering the benefits of their alliances.

Traditions[]

Body drum

Ducduc body drums are traditionally made by shaping a stick from a particularly strong kind of plant where it is then completed with leather padding at its tip. The leather is typically dyed in various patterns and colours to make it look more appealing.

Traditions vary among ducduc but there are a surprising amount of examples where similar traditions have arisen in separate ancient ducduc cultures.

One of the most prominent and widespread traditions by far is the ducduc tradition of painting and decorating their shell with symbols and designs that are meant to show who they are and where they come from. From nearly the moment a ducduc is hatched their shell is painted with a family symbol, and as they develop they will add more designs to their shell. Nearly all ducduc cultures do shell decorating/painting one way or another. Some even do a form where the designs are tattooed to their body, this practice has gotten increasingly popular in recent times as it negates the need for shells to be repainted.

An important part of ducduc tradition is music. Instruments have been made in cultures all over the planet and each one fits perfectly to ducduc anatomy. One of the most ancient instruments of all has a name roughly translated to "body drum". The instrument itself is a strangely shaped curved stick with padding at the end. The instrument is played by pounding the padded end of the stick on the ducduc's back, creating a deep but loud "thump". This unique instrument is essentially a mallet you play on your body. The instrument is held with the curved end facing backwards from the user's head, this makes it so when the player aggressively flicks their arm up the padded tip will slam on the user's back creating the distinct "thump" sound. The instruments can even be dual wielded, allowing the player to create a very fast beat in a flurry of thumps. This instrument is quite specific to ducduc anatomy and cant be used by many other species, and therefore plays that feature body drum players attract lots of visitors who want to see the rare opportunity of the instrument in action.

Religion[]

The varied cultures of the Ducduc empire is only matched by their wide variety of religions. These religions were shaped by countless separate populations of ducduc since before they even knew they lived in a solar system. Examples of religions can only be given as there is no way to cover all the details of every religion.

Stories[]

One religion contains a creation story that consists of a cosmic being possessing an unfathomable amount of appendages and features. This being is called "Zagam", and it was Zagam who created the land and everything within it by donating parts of itself. A large chunk of its mane body created the land itself, fauna and flora were created by giving limbs and other extremities, and the moon was created from everything that was left. Zagam gave so much away that only its spirit remained. Without a body and shining bright, Zagam became the sun. In some versions of this religion, Zagam created the sun while still having parts left, arguing that Zagam has near limitless body parts and would likely still possess a body.

There is another religion where the world itself was actually a giant organism named "Crebectos" and the sun and moon were its children. It was from this religion where the most popular name of the ducduc planet comes from.

A creation story of one ducduc religion consists of countless deities, and its this creation story thats often told as a lesson to ducduc children: At a time before the land was filled with life, the world was a giant empty stone, and it was here where a large meeting place of deities took place. Each deity wanted their children to live in the land, but they did not know how to decide who got to do it. This led to an argument between them all. One deity named Fancer said that their children should be the ones to inhabit the land since their's was the fastest and most graceful, another named Apecean said that they should let their children live on the land because theirs was the biggest and strongest. This went on until one deity named Durok, who wasn't the biggest, fastest, or strongest went up in the middle of the discussion and said "All our children are equally deserving to live on the land. Why don't we let all our children live in the land in harmony?" This one sentence stopped everyone from bickering, and they turned to Durok with astonishment. The decision was final, everyone let their children live on the land. In this story, each deity was named after an organism of the ducduc planet, and each organism on crebectos was their children. The name of the fastest deity is usually named after the rather agile herbivore of crebectos called a fancer, the name of the biggest and strongest deity is usually named after either the immensely powerful apecean or the truly massive colothan, but the name of the wise deity is almost always named after the slow and hard shelled organism called a durok.

(Above are some native fauna of crebectos and the main characters of this religion's children's story)

Ducduc religions have only increased in number in recent times as new colonies are created in new places as they meet new species. Some ducduc even follow the religions found in other species, an example of such is the followers of spode.
