That home is haunted, I tell you! You don't approach it unless you want to encounter her. The ghost. That creepy girl invites you in, then scares the soul out of you with her macabre songs and tastes. I remember one man saying he was even molested! The Blackharp were a cursed family line and their very home continues to be cursed to this day!

- Unknown

D'arcy Blackharp is the ghost of a Manorian human woman who has been turned into a Revenant Gravekeeper, one of the messengers and commanders of the Underworld and a direct servant of Mortium, the Grim Reaper. Originated from a family of reclusive dirge bards who lived at a large mansion at the Gulf of Blades at the northern sea, D'arcy and her family were all murdered by cultists who sought a Simulacrum artifact which was their family heirloom. Feeling sorry for the girl and also in need of a guardian for said artifact, Mortium gave her a new 'life' as a Revenant who now inhabits her home island, primarily her home mansion, in order to protect her heirloom.

A perky, playful and slightly naughty young adult, D'arcy is a mischievous individual who enjoys the company of the living despite displaying fascination with the macabre and supernatural while showing downright confusion about what a normal person would consider normal. However, despite this friendly demeanor, she is nonetheless an entity of great power, and threatening her, her friends or her heirloom will lead to the person being haunted by her reanimated corpse, whose nightmarish powers are enough to drive even the most adamant immortals into terror and eventually downright kill them of fright.

History[]

D'arcy was born at 15 BNA as the single daughter of the Blackharp clan, a rich but reclusive family who lived at the lands of the north. The Blackharp were a family of dirge bards, performing songs and music in funerals in order to honour the dead, and their greatest heirloom, passed through their ancestors for centuries, was the Gravekeeper's Sack: a Simulacrum artifact linked to the Grim Reaper Mortium which holds the power of holding an unlimited amount of souls as well as granting its wielder great power over dark magic. The Blackharp family displayed quirky mannerisms, showing a great fascination with the macabre which their neighbours found uncomfortable or strange, and this is widely believed to be influence of the Sack's powers. However, the Blackharp were nonetheless a friendly, welcoming and genuinely good hearted people, being considered productive members of society and raising their daughter D'arcy with all the love they could.

At the year 2 NA, however, the Blackharp property was invaded by cultists linked to the Cult of the Eclipse and the entire family was murdered by them, with D'arcy being assassinated by having a longsword stabbed through her stomach. Before the cultists could steal the Gravekeeper's Sack, however, the Revenant Choronzon intervened and destroyed them all, sending their souls to the depths of the Underworld for their insolence though he would come to realize what had happened to the Blackharp family and remained waiting at the mansion until Mortium himself arrived to collect the souls of the deceased. Choronzon explained the role the family played in protecting the artifact, and it is said the Simulacrum actually felt pity for D'arcy and her family, and in a moment of kindness, he rose the young woman into a Revenant and made her the new guardian of the Sack. Mortium promised to keep the souls of her parents in the best residence possible in the Underworld, which D'arcy responded with admiration for the God of Death and then pledged her full loyalty to him, accepting her new role. She was now a Revenant Gravekeeper much like Choronzon, free to travel from the Underworld and back to visit and spend time with her family's souls though holding the position of guardian of the Gravekeeper's Sack, ensuring none of Mortium's foes would try stealing it again. Since then, many individuals have come to discover the fact the Blackharp Mansion is haunted with D'arcy's ghost, and despite her friendly behaviour, her mannerisms scare away all but the most valiant.

Characteristics[]

Zombie D'arcy

D'arcy's corpse

Appearance[]

In her natural state, D'arcy appears as a spectral human female of average size with long, black hair who wears typical gothic clothing and make-up, appearing otherwise fit in the standards of beauty of many humanoid races. Her skin is considered pale while her eyes have become pitch-black. When giving herself a physical form, her eyes change into a faint shade of purple. However, D'arcy's corpse form is strikingly different, having a sickly green skin, an emaciated and blood-stained look, disproportionately large limbs and claws and massive fangs, with tusks and spikes growing around her head. Putrid open wounds cover her skin, maggots feasting upon it and attracting insects around her while the sword that killed her can be seen stabbing through her stomach, the wound still fresh and bleeding.

Personality[]

D'arcy is, above all else, curious and mischievous. She shows a fascination with the supernatural and the macabre, something the Blackharp family as a whole was credited for having, and she shows interests in otherwise creepy and almost pagan activities such as having spiders and bats as pets, create idols of dark deities and eat food which would be considered downright toxic for humans. D'arcy is well aware of her reputation as a ghost and uses it to play with those who try and sneak into her mansion, which has become famous due to her presence. Those who manage to learn more about her, though, find out she is a passionate person who shows deep affection for others, and she has been reported having a more sensual side beneath her mischief.

Abilities[]

As a Revenant Gravekeeper, D'arcy is among the most powerful creatures of the Underworld despite her seemingly mundane appearance. In order to protect the Gravekeeper's Sack from thieves, she uses what is known as her "corpse form" by invoking a disfigurated version of her corpse as a zombie to protect the mansion. Zombie D'arcy is nearly invulnerable to damage, shrugging off even powerful blasts of light magic, and its mere presence causes reality to shift and fall apart, being replaced by horrifying, graphic imagery and sounds which are blasted into the psyche of its enemies. Such powers send D'arcy's foes into a state of panic, eventually leading to paralysis or actual death by fright. In the event the victim does not surrender, the Zombie will use its claws to rend them to pieces and then devour their flesh, with D'arcy purging their soul to the depths of the Underworld as punishment of their intrusion.

Quotes[]

Southwest of the Aos'maran isles and northwest from l'Ammanori's briney shores is the accursed coordinate of the island on its supposed lonesome; need not bother do we agents of the Inquisition's orders with misguided ghost tales, for we, gifted knowledge and information too heavy for others to bear, know of and accept the world's truths. ... Should you stray upon the black waters, stray far from Blackharp Mansion.

I often hear Clotho talking about wanting to go visit this "Blackharp Mansion" place, says that it has a lot of interesting history and that'd it would make a great place to live one day. She also says that, apparently, a ghost haunts that place. ... Pfft, yeah, sure. Sounds kinda spooky but ghosts? Nah.

Trivia[]

  • OluapPlayer got the idea for D'arcy from a dream.
  • D'arcy's model was made by TheHachi, who also contributed considerably for the character's creation.
  • Previous concepts of the character had her be part of the Fiction Universe instead of the Fantasy Universe as a ghost made of elemental energy who travelled through galaxies by infiltrating spaceships. The concept was abandoned for not being fitting to the setting and for being too unrealistic.
