The Corsican Defense Force is the military wing of the Corsican Republic. A small and well disciplined volunteer army, it specializes in defensive urban warfare suited to Corsica's dense metropolitan worlds. As such, infantry composes the core of the Corsican ground forces, trained for combat as well as peacetime peacekeeping duties.
Regiment types[]
Truppe d'Assualto - By far one of the more prestigious and physically difficult types of regiments, the Truppe d'Assualto, or "Assault Troops", are meant to spearhead planetary invasions. Escorted by E-64 Juno gunships and Eurofighters, specialized landing craft deposit ground forces on the surface in the heat of battle. Each regiment of Truppe d'Assualto usually consists of two fucilieri pesanti companies riding in E-16 Agamemnon gunships, one armored Oliphaunt company, and an aerial support wing.- Fanteria leggera - Better on the defense than on the offense, the Fanteria leggera, or "light infantry" typically fall in behind assault troops and fortify gained territory. By far the most common type of regiment, it is composed of three fucilieri companies riding in Wellan TI infantry transport trucks, one aerial defense company, and one light armored companies composed primarily of CCP Avalon light tanks.
- Bersaglieri - Bersaglieri, or "marksmen" serve as a quick infantry response force on the front. Riding in French VAB-88's, they are quick, amphibious, and heavily armed. Each regiment is composed of two fucilieri companies riding in VAB-88 d'Assaut's, one anti-air support company, one close artillery support company, and one armored company composed primarily of CCP Avalon light tanks.
- Reggimento Corazzato - Armored regiments, called reggimenti corazzati, are primarily composed of South African Oliphaunt main battle tanks with support from CCP Avalon light tanks, anti-air missiles, and towed artillery. Each regiment has two armored company of Oliphaunts, one light armored company of Avalons, one aerial defense company, one close artillery support company, and one aerial support wing.
Infantry[]
- Fucilieri - The most common type of infantry, fucilieri, or "Riflemen," are considered average when weighed against the infantry of other nations. Equipped with blast-resistant armor, automatic plasma rifles, and anti-tank guided missiles, they can hold a fortified position against armored and infantry attack.
- Fucilieri pesanti - Heavier and more experienced than the regular fucilieri, fucilieri pesanti, or "heavy infantry" specialize in the attack. They carry all manner of equipment from handheld anti-personnel rockets to fragmented grenades.
