The legacy of the Ancient Ones belongs to us...

- King Mirras III

The Borealis Grox Empire was a splitten faction of mutated Grox and the most powerful native empire of the Borealis Galaxy. Under the rule of the malevolent and godlike Regnatus, the Borealis Grox were a grave threat to all life in the galaxy.

History

Archaic history

The Grox arrived in Borealis 5 billion years in the past, where at the time they were a colony of the Grox Meta-Empire led by the Grox King Mirras I. Colonizing the Core Region of the galaxy, the Grox managed to obtain an extensive and well-defended territory in the Core.

The Grox would then meet resistance in the form of the Kormacvar Empire, the galaxy's precursors and most powerful inhabitants. The war between the Grox and the Kormacvar raged on for around 500,000 years, the Kormacvar using weapons such as Project Armageddon and the Grid to combat the cyborgs, but in the end, the Grox emerged victorious and became the rulers of the galaxy.

With the Kormacvar out of their way, the Grox started to learn how to use the Grid to their advantage. It was then that the Kormacvar warmaster Regnatus merged his soul into the Grid and used its power to override and dominate the minds and bodies of the Grox, turning them into his mindless thralls. After this, the Grox entered a state of seclusion and their presence remained unknown until the recent times.

The Great Purging

Great Purging

The Great Purging against the Zoles Imperium

5 billion years later, the Borealis Grox emerged from the shadows, now with a new puppet leader in the form of King Mirras III. When the Zoles Imperium tried to expand it's influence to the core, the Grox easily defeated them, pushing them back to the Arm of Knowledge. King Mirras III then ordered what is known as The Great Purging, where all non-Grox life of the core was exterminated. From this day forward, the core was now a death-zone known as "Center of Death".

The empire also got Marinox drones from the Milky Way Grox, but only managed to create their own Life Generator many years later.

The Borealis Grox remained hidden for the following years, waiting for their chance to strike. A group of Ottzelloan Grox and Ottzelloan Marinox, rebelling from UNO, would join the Borealis Grox Empire sometime after they arrived in Borealis.

Second Borealis Galactic War

A Vague Fear

The Grox coming in contact with the Vague

The Grox became fully active once again during the Second Borealis Galactic War. During the Xi'Arazulha invasion, the Grox were sneakily robbed by the Borealis Consortium Network, who stole several artifacts off a Grox world. In retribution, the Grox destroyed thousands of BCN-aligned planets, while the Xi'Arazulha still caused damage across the galaxy. When the forces of Order pushed into the Core, the Grox were too occupied fighting the ultraterrestrial monsters to notice them.

After the Xi'Arazulha were defeated and the Vague arrived, the Grox came back to their mysterious plans. However, they would be hindred by the defeat and surrender of the Grox Meta-Emperor during the New Grox Wars, which caused the Borealis Grox's devices to temporarely glitch. It was discovered that the Grox were the only thing the Vague feared, but no one knew exactly why. The Borealis Grox would also indoctrinate King Thylaxiz to their side, and give him mysterious powers.

Sacrifices to be Made

The Borealis Grox destroy Falrik Zaarkhun's homeworld

When the War Economy was introduced, the Grox remained completely unnaffected by it, as they were a post-scarcity society. During this time, the Borealis Grox came into contact with the Nexus Grox, with deals between the two factions being made centered around the largest threat to the Grox in Borealis: the Junction. During the Hegdar Revolution, the Borealis Grox were also revealed to be the masters of the Hegdar Warband, using them as puppets and servants.

The Grox's final stand would happen during the Wrath of Gods, where their plan was revealed: they would destroy the Cold Relays, leaving the natives stranded. They would then harvest the natives and turn all of them, including the Grox themselves, into Ascended-class dreadnoughts servants of Regnatus. The galaxy, however, united itself into a new Polar Crystal Alliance and pushed into the galacic core with the intention of hitting the Grox homeworld itself. After a very close battle, King Mirras III was finally killed by the Alliance, but at he same time, Regnatus himself emerged from inside of the Grox homeworld, where he then attacked the fleet. However, Regnatus' plans were foiled when the commanders of the Alliance managed to invade his body by using the galactic core's Cold Relay. Inside him, Arkarixus had the idea of uploading his mind into Regnatus the same way Regnatus had uploading his mind into the Grid. By doing this, Arkarixus managed to stun Regnatus, destroying his shields and barriers, and allowed the galactic fleet to finally destroy him.

The Mechanic took Regnatus' place as the leader of the Grox, giving them free will and personality by using the Grid. The Borealis Grox Empire was no more, being replaced by the Kormacvar Legacy.

Characteristics

Species

Society

The Borealis Grox lacked a society structure, being all mindless drones under Regnatus' service. Titles such as commander, capitan, commandant etc were in truth all cosmetic. However, the Grox King had a degree of independance, making him unique.

Equipment

Grox Relay

A Grox Relay

The Borealis Grox used both Meta-Empire ships and Ottzelloan Grox ships such as the Ottzelloan Grox Annihilator and the Ottzelloan Grox Assassin. Like some other Grox colonies, the Borealis Grox also possessed Marinox and Conqrix drones.

A notable piece of equipment developed by the Borealis Grox were the "Grox Relays". The original Cold Relays created by the Kormacvar were programmed to attack the Grox if they attempted to use them, but after they were killed off, the Grox managed to develop a hacking device which caused the Relay to work on the reverse: allowing the Grox to use it, and attacking non-Grox species.

These Grox Relays differed from regular Relays for their red and purple colouration. They were mostly located on the Inner Core, but several are also scattered around the galaxy, allowing the Grox to jump from arm to arm to center undetected. It should be noted, however, that the Grox didn't need the Relays to travel across the galaxy, only doing it for its convenience and lower energy cost.

Fleet

We come.

Borealis Grox Ascended
  • Name - Ascended-class
  • Size - 5-20 kilometers large
  • Weaponry - Spatial compression waves, transphasic antimatter missile launchers, planet-glasser superlasers, ion autoblasters, ion repeater blasters, trators

The Ascended-classes were enormous, several kilometers large dreadnought capable of not only being a spaceship, but also a land vehicle. Exclusive to the Borealis Grox, the Ascended-class were notable for being a "living" spaceship, a self-conscious half-biological, half-machine titan capable of taking out entire fleets unassisted. Their living forms were created by the processing of hundreds of thousands of Grox into a grey, viscous goo, mixed together with Regnatus' psychological torture.

Individuals

Regnatus

You cannot compreend the magnitude of my presence.

Regnatus was a titanic half-organic half-synthetic dreadnought, inhabitated by the soul of a Kormacvar Warmaster, who serveds as the ultimate leader and mastermind behind the Borealis Grox Empire and the Alvino Brood. Uniting the near god-like technology of the Kormacvar, the Grox, and vast knowledge of Gyronic energy, Regnatus was by far the most powerful native entity to ever exist in the Borealis Galaxy.

Completely focused on his goal of recreating the Kormacvar species, he saw everything around him as merely tools for his grand schemes. In Kormacvar terms, Regnatus was completely deranged and insane. Cruel and pityless, Regnatus cared very little for the well-being of the galaxy he once sworn to protect, and would exterminate anyone who tried to meddle with his plans.

King Mirras III

The legacy of the Ancient Ones is mine.

  • Name - King Mirras III
  • Race - Borealis Grox
  • Position - Puppet leader
  • Status - Killed in action

King Mirras III was the puppet leader of the Borealis Grox and one of the most feared figures of the entire galaxy. An ancient Grox with a strange set of emotions, Mirras III planned the destruction and harvesting of Borealis for centuries, but ultimately failed and was killed by the Polar Crystal Alliance.

Mirras III was unique for possessing strange psychic abilities, later revealed to be originated from his link with Regnatus.

Khensu True Form

The Borealis Grox cannot be defied.

Commandant Khensu was Mirras III's highest ranking warrior and the leader of the Marinox inside the Borealis Grox Empire. He notably differed from other Marinox for sharing his skin with a Borealis Grox's, having a sadistic personality and an apparent group mind with Mirras III.

Khensu possessed strange abilities that allowed him to take control of Conqrix and Marinox drones, and could turn himself into a monstrous cybernetic beast by surrendering his mind to Regnatus.

GroxOttz King

Freedom for the Ottzelloan drones.

  • Name - GroxOttz King
  • Race - Artificial intelligence
  • Position - Ottzelloan Grox leader
  • Status - Body destroyed, mind merged with the Tralkik Commander

GroxOttz King was an AI who served as the original ruler of the Ottzelloan Grox back when the Meta-Emperor colonised the Ottzello Galaxy. GroxOttz King acted much like a regular Grox King, but without a physical body. It's speculated that GroxOttz King's creation was a test by the Meta-Empire to potentially replace all Grox Kings with AIs in the future. The AI, however, became defunct and was replaced with King Thylaxiz. Leaving Ottzello, GroxOttz King would then be assimilated into Regnatus' troops.

GroxOttz King's most notable ability was of disabling UNOS on UNO's Ottzelloan Grox/Marinox/Conqrix drones. His spaceship body had similar properties to an Ascended-class dreadnought, except he lacked a living part.
