MouCyranAccords Peace through Order
The Allied Terran Republic was a member of the Mou'Cyran Accords
"United in the hopes of a better future..."

The Republic is bound by the same principles; order, peace and justice. We seek a better future for the galaxy and all those who seek to join us.

- Aidan Collins

The Allied Terran Republic, also known as the Terran Republic, Terrae or the Republic of Humanity, was an expansive federal republic primarily located in the Milky Way Galaxy. Though seen by many as a primarily Human organisation, representing one of the two bulks of the species, the Terran Republic was also home to hundreds of different alien species, as well as near-humans from throughout the Gigaquadrant. The Republic was a Plazithian superpower, known for founding the galaxy-wide Civilisation along with the Delpha Coalition of Planets and various Precursor factions.

When the humans from Earth embarked on the interstellar age in the mid-22nd century, they encountered not only aliens, but various near-humans around the Milky Way. However, powerful human nation states remained, expanding in space independently from their brothers and sisters. Resulting from this, humans diversely populated the galaxy and influenced it in many ways. The faction that would become the Terran Republic were known as the Unificationists, a group found in many Earth nation-states that sought a single strong front for humanity. These aspirations led to the creation of the Republic during the devastating War of Ages, resulting in the merger of the unificationist factions, many nation states and even alien civilisations into a single Republic.

The Allied Terran Republic collapsed during the Second Great Cyrannus War, when Imperial forces besieged and captured the capital on Terrae, destroying the capital and placing Terran space under a harsh occupation.

The capital of the Republic was the temperate, idyllic world of Terrae in the Scutum–Centaurus Arm, from which it expanded throughout the Plazith Rim and into most of the central Gigaquadrantic galaxies, becoming a leading member in Gigaquadrantic organisations such as the Seven Starr Alliance and the Universal Trading Union. The Terrans also later joined the Mou'Cyran Accords, an organisation seeking to bring about lasting Gigaquadrantic peace.

History[]

Origins[]

Humanity's destiny is not on Earth, but in the stars above.

- Human Philosopher, 20th Century

The first humans to leave Earth were not Homo sapiens, they were the Denisova homin, or Ashtar, as they became known as. Leaving Earth as Homo sapiens were still leaving Africa, the Ashtar advanced to ascension eventually, becoming one of the Milky Way's precursors. The first society of Homo sapiens (or "Terrans") developed over 20,000 years ago, called the Kei'Un tribe, who by accident had awoken the Xhodocto from an ancient vault. The Xhodocto eventually left Earth, and The Krassio declared it the center of the universe.

PlayingGod

Humanity creates the Jovar.

This declaration did not apply to non-alien races, possibly due to the Krassio being unaware of the Ashtar, who also left more descendants known as the "Greys", who would one day become Precursors. Some of them transplanted humans to use as slaves, while more friendly descendants transplanted humans to protect them, in many cases humans were able to defeat their masters by developing their own unique off-world cultures, some becoming spacefaring before Terrans on Earth. The majority were transplanted in the Orion Spur, and some in the Scutum-Crux arm of the Milky Way, Andromeda Galaxy and the Quadrant Galaxies.

Over the millennia, the Krassio declaration had been forgotten or ignored, with many civilisations visiting the Earth and influencing the early development of humanity. Meanwhile, Earth remained divided by nation-states and suffered many massive wars. Individual Terran states achieved interstellar flight by the end of the 21st century, building early versions of the warp drive and met other nearby Near-humans. Between the 21st and 27th century, alliances were forged but there were also many wars as the dozens of terran factions continued to expand into space.

Though Humanity remained divided, the unificationists made up of both terran nations and near-humans faced many threats and ultimately aided the Delpha Coalition of Planets against the forces of the Grox Empire. During this time period, human unificationists also built a new race, the Jovar, who eventually shared their space and culture, forming one of the largest empires in the Milky Way in the process. Humanity's internal conflicts had created levels of distrust with alien powers in the Milky Way, such as the Delpha Coalition of Planets or Defensive System's Bloc, both of whom nevertheless ultimately becoming strong allies of the Terran Republic when it was formed.

Creation of the Republic[]

Only through comradeery and trust can we weather this storm to end all storms. The Congregation will not relent, but neither shall we. May the Terran Republic rise.

- Acting President Sukaina Iman, creation of the Republic

In the 28th century, several wars seriously damaged and fractured nations in the Milky Way Galaxy, one of these; the War of Ages saw the unification of several human and near-human factions under the Allied Terran Republic, though many of the more nationalistic nation-states remained independent. Fighting tooth and nail against the demonic invaders earned the Terran Republic a great deal of respect among the alien nations of the Gigaquadrant, ultimately allowing them to become a great Plazithian superpower. Though it was already a member of the Seven Starr Alliance, along with the Delpha Coalition of Planets and the Milky Way Precursors, the Terran Republic founded the legendary Milky Way Cooperative, allowing it to advance very quickly both technologically and sociologically.

As a member of the Civilisation, the Republic was a key combatant in protecting the galaxy during the New Grox Wars, ignorant to the fact that their involvement was hiding a sinister threat. In the 26th century, Humans had left Earth, watching it from afar, so it could recover. One of the Archaeo-humans, the Thals decided to make their move and take Earth back, helped by one of the Precursors; the Alpha Draconians, who had also begun to influence the Republic's government. The New Grox Wars provided the right distraction, and the Earth's dark secrets may eventually be revealed.

Expansion and Conflict[]

Attero Dominatus

No. Never. We will not relent! We will not bow to your wishes! We will use every fleet, every army, every weapon available to us down to our own fists to bring an end to your campaign of terror! Do you hear me?!

- Elethien, refusing to surrender to the Tyranny.

Soon after the Delpha Coalition of Planets declared war on the Drakodominatus Tyranny during the Attero Dominatus War, the sinister forces of the Tyranny targeted the Terran Republic in what would come to be consider some of the darkest days in humanity's history. The conflict between the Republic and the Tyranny began when the Dominatus sacked the important Terran planet of Danann, homeworld of acting President Elethien. Bombarding the planet from orbit, the Dominatus turned the once beautiful paradise into a festering cesspool of destruction and dread. Once the Grand Council voted Elethien into power, the once peaceful councilor led the Terran Republic into its most important conflict since the War of Ages.

The war in the Milky Way would see billions of dead, though ultimately thanks to the Terran's new allies such as the New Cyrannian Republic, the tide would begin to turn against the terrors from Mirus. In the climactic battle of Chalcedon, the Terran Navy along with the DCP and the Cyrannian Republic routed the Tyranny fleet in one of the largest space battles in Plazithian history.

Cyrannian and Quadrantia Colonies

Soon after the Republic's creation, it began to expand into galaxies that they haven't explored yet. Thanks to their membership in the Civilisation, the Republic was granted permission to use the main wormhole between the Milky Way and the Cyrannus Galaxy and soon petitioned the natives to allow the Republic to expand into the designated extragalactic expansion zone outside the Outer Rim. In a meeting between Imperial Senator Debentien, Republic Senator Ilas'Shei, Councilor Aidan Collins and Fjord League representative Elda Jurgensen, the native Cyrannians agreed to permit the construction of two hundred colonies in the extragalactic zone, including the twin capitals Nova Britannia and Nova Hibernia. Using a large amount of political sway, these two colonies were connected to the Delpha Route, linking the Republic to the greater Cyrannian trade market. During the New Cyrandia Wars, the Terran Republic under Juliana Reynolds answered a distress call from a neutral planet known as Amphryssos which was under attack by the nefarious Cognatus Empire. Though the Terran fleet fought bravely against the zealots, the superior technology of the Cognatus quickly turned the resulting battle in their favour. However, the timely arrival of the Republica, flagship of the Cyrannian Republic under Willelmus Cretacea resulted in a victory for the new allies.

The Allied Terran Republic was the first civilisation hit by the invasion of the Neraida Gigamatrix, a conflict that began the Plazithian Seismomachy. Streaming from the wormhole to Cyrannus, the Neraida violently attacked and assimilated the prosperous colony of Tírnanóg. Due to the fact that no survivors were located, the meaning behind this invasion and indeed, those who carried it out remained unknown to both the Council of Admirals and the Grand Council of the Republic until an escort fleet managed to glean information from a Neraida probe that showed that not only were they behind the attack on Tírnanóg, but they were also planning an invasion on one of the most important planets to the Republic: Earth. This information forced the Republic to contact their kin in the Orion League in the hopes of safeguarding the human homeworld to the chagrin of many in the Republic's government who strongly disapproved of their involvement in the ongoing hostilities against the Civilisation.

Intergalactic Juggernaut[]

The civilisations of the Mou'Cyran Accords are the strongest pillars of a peaceful Gigaquadrant. It is our great honour to be accepted into their ranks.

- Councilor Aidan Collins, upon the Republic's ascension to the Mou'Cyran Accords.

When the conflict died down, the Terran Republic joined the Mou'Cyran Accords, vastly increasing its influence in other galaxies. This membership in a neutral alliance would ultimately, and perhaps conveniently, prevent Terran membership in the newly formed Human Superstate, a union formed after the defeat of the Xonexi Allies during the conflict in the Milky Way Galaxy which resulted in the surrender of France and the fall of the Orion League. The Republic nevertheless supported the regime-change in France, which led to the formation of the French Seventh Republic and the creation of the Superstate under the directive of the Delpha Coalition of Planets and the leadership of the Terran Republic-aligned human factions, the Yamato Intersolar Commune, the Kindred Coalition and the Fjord League of Northern Europe. The formation of the Superstate troubled many Terran unificationists such as Aidan Collins, who claimed that a civilisation born from such violence and conflict could not truly embody the ideal of peaceful unification without alien influence.

Aidan Collins and Vaslah have a discussion with Windey prior to Project Exodus.

The government of the Republic informed the Superstate that it would await the end of the Great Xonexian Schism before deciding if membership would be appropriate, though the strongly pro-Superstate attitude of both the citizenry and the government, coupled with the plethora of conspiracy theories pointing at Terran involvement in the Superstate's creation damaged the reputation of the Republic in the eyes of the remaining members of the Xonexian Alliance. Soon afterward, the Terran Republic began colonising the Borealis Galaxy with the aid and support of the native Polar Crystal Alliance. In addition, the government of the Republic was reformed to a federal Presidential model in response to the growing tensions in the intergalactic sphere, leading to the election of Elethien as the first full-time President of the Republic.

Several years later, the Allied Terran Republic joined with other members of the Civilisation to aid their allies in the Indoctrinate Collective migrate from the Milky Way Galaxy to the Borealis Galaxy. Impressed with the scale of the feat, the Council assigned some of the best scientific minds in Terran space to aid the Collective.

Collapse[]

SGCW Fall of Terrae

The Empire captured Terrae during the Second Great War.

When the Galactic Empire of Cyrannus destroyed the Mou'Cyran system at the close of the Cyrannian Cold War, the Terran Republic was quick to declare war, and simultaneously strengthened its borders against any Imperial invasions. Nevertheless, much of the Republic's military force had been spent under relentless Imperial attacks during the Plazithian Campaign of the conflict, ultimately leading to the decisive Fall of Terrae and the collapse of the Republic's government.

Government and Politics[]

The government of the Allied Terran Republic is two-fold. Spreading out from the Republic's central territory, a huge swath of space is under the direct control of the Republic and exists under its flag, creating a federal system under the governance of a electronically elected Council, and upon the reformation of the Republic's government in the 2800s, a powerful executive President, also elected through e-democracy. However, the Republic also exists as more of an intergovernmental alliance with civilisations unwilling to give up all their sovereignty to a single united force. The Republic's associated members are expected however to have broadly similar goals toward ever-closer union of the Republic's members. A key part of the Republic is the freedom to choose what level of control the Republic's authority has over them. Some civilisations such as the European Star Republic, the Uplifted Cetacea, the State of Siberia and Azerbaijan were absorbed completely into the Republic while others such as the Fjord League of Northern Europe retained its sovereignty under an associated membership. In this way, the Allied Republic was seen as a counterpart to the now-defunct Orion League and its successor, the Human Superstate.

Making use of a highly advanced form of e-democracy, the citizens of the Republic vote for councilors to represent them in an inclusive Republic Council. Unlike in previous human civilisations, these councillors are rarely politicians, but rather figures deemed to be the best that society has to offer, including professors, scientists and philanthropists. All councillors stand with equal footing on the Council, though during times of great emergency, the Council elects a President to oversee the Republic. Once the crisis has abated, this President steps down. The Republic is also famed for its diplomatic corp, which includes famous figures such as Aidan Collins.

Stance on Human Unification[]

Ironically for a civilisation which officially aims to unite the Human species, by the end of the 28th Century, the Grand Council of the Republic began to take a more pragmatic and neutral approach. While still officially supporting unification and while the door remained opened for human nation-states to join as either full or associate members, the current trend seems to indicate that the Republic is instead distancing itself further from what it deems "Orion Arm politics" in favour of alien alliances and membership in organisations such as the Seven Starr Alliance, Universal Trading Union and the Civilisation. Though some Councilors such as Aidan Collins view the unification of the human species as an important goal, most others are content with the status-quo. Nevertheless, there is some overlap between members of the Republic and the Orion League though official communication between non-Republic aligned states within the League and the Republic proper is quite rare.

Society and Culture[]

There are many different members of the Republic and throughout their history, each developed unique ideologies, goals, cultures, beliefs and technologies. However, the one thing that binds the people of the Republic together is the so-called "United Goals", which include becoming a united species and civilisation and to explore, the latter in the hopes of fulfilling the same curiosity that drives all of humanity. Individually, different members have different technological applications and levels. Some worlds (protected planets) are even in iron age-level developments, while others have intergalactic travel. The economy of the Republic is non-currency based, primarily due to the invention of mass replicators, which fulfilled most material needs.

By the 23th century, human unificationists had matter/energy conversion, antimatter production, replication and teleportation, terraforming and so on. By the 28th century when the Republic had formed, these factions had merged causing an influx of technology including subatomic disruptors, turbolasers, multi-layered shielding, planet busters, quantum scale materials science, posthuman cybernetics, wormhole keys and intergalactic travel. The Terran Republic on it's own rates at around kardashev II, but has become involved with the Milky Way Cooperative, with some colonies joining it's society and sharing the technoosheres and astroengineering megastructures with other alien members.

Human Society[]

Though the word "Terran" is mostly used to describe those who originate on Earth, when used in the context of the Allied Terran Republic, it has two meanings. The first is the most common, referring to the humans in the Republic while the second meaning can refer to a citizen of the Allied Republic regardless of race. In the context of this section, "Terran" will refer to the human civilisation within the Republic.

Most Terrans living within the Republic have advanced their society to a point almost unrecognisable to their ancestors in earlier centuries. Since becoming spacefaring, the human unificationists that set out to found a new civilisation made many changes as they gradually become more and more integrated with the galactic community. Though many retain cultural distinctions held by their ancestors such as separate languages, customs and religious beliefs, factors that hindered the species for centuries such as poverty, hunger, war between themselves and inequality have been relegated to an unfortunate chapter in their history. In their place, Terrans now devote their time fully to the development of themselves and their society. However, while this may seem idyllic, Terrans are not, nor have they ever been, a homogeneous people and there exist many individuals and colonies within the Republic that may not agree with the ongoing development of their race.

Making up 71% of the citizens of the Republic, Terrans are seen as the most adaptable and idealistic race by other members, owing to a constantly evolving and changing culture. The patriarchal nature of ancient Terran civilisations are but a distant memory to Terrans at the dawn of the 29th Century, who exist in a society free from the gender roles of the past, with the very sociological idea of gender rendered inconsequential in most cases.

Astrography[]

Terrae01

Terrae, the economic and political capital of the Republic.

The Terran Republic spans dozens of sectors of space in its home Milky Way Galaxy, as well as large numbers of colonies in the Andromeda Galaxy, the Quadrant Galaxies and the Cyrannus Galaxy, benefiting greatly from their membership in the Civilisation and their generally good standing with most Gigaquadrantic powers. The Republic maintains control over much of this space, though associated members have a much greater degree of autonomy independent from the Republic's Council though most have agreed to let the Republic coordinate extragalactic expansion. The official capital of the Republic is the temperate planet Terrae, which boasts a warm climate and expansive urban centres as well as most foreign embassies.

Military and Defence[]

They do not bow down to the inevitability, they defy it with a rage that is greater than the storms fury. Nowhere does this characteristic manifest itself more than in their navy, the personification of everything special about a race so average.

- Wolframicht Stahl

The Republic fields a vast military that ranks as one of the strongest in the Milky Way Galaxy, being instrumental in the fight against the Xhodocto during the War of Ages and the Grox Empire during the New Grox Wars. Though associated members retain sovereignty over their own militaries, the Republic's directly controlled military is coordinated by a Board of Admirals, an organisation similar in function to the political Council. Under the command of this board, the Republic fields devastating warships fielded from all of its unified members, cementing the Republic's place as a Plazithian superpower.

TerranFlotilla

Two Everest-class carrier/destroyers on patrol. The Everest-class is the most successful ship design in the Terran Navy, introduced in the mid-2800s.

Beginning in the 2790s, the Terran Republic began to make good on its diplomatic relations with extragalactic empires by establishing a large colonial sphere throughout the Gigaquadrant. Though this brought much prosperity and trade to the borders of Terrae, it also exposed the Republic to new conflicts such as the New Cyrandia Wars in the Cyrannus Galaxy against powerful enemies such as the Bisistar Domain and the Neraida Gigamatrix. In response, powerful defence ships were constructed to defend the Republic's borders, including the massive though elegant Everest-class carrier/destroyer designed to ward off most conceivable foes with its highly advanced weaponry, most of which was developed by Terran scientists with aid from both the Mou'Cyran Accords and the Civilisation.

Though of course, a fleet of highly advanced vessels is nothing without the people and automata that command them. The most famous Terran commander on the Gigaquadrantic scene is Fleet Admiral Juliana Reynolds, known for her role in both the Battles of Amphryssos and Venetia. Other famed officers of the Terran Navy include Admirals Toberek, T'Aloren and Preston Yates, all of whom have distinguished themselves through exploration, scientific research and the defence of the citizens of the Republic. In addition to the massive battlecruisers of the Allied Republic, exploration and scientific development in the depths of space are often carried out by the small but highly advanced Presidio-class Star Cruiser, which originated from shared designs provided by the Mou'Cyran Accords.

Republic ships utilise the "ATS" (Allied Terran Ship) prefix, such as the ATS Leonardo da Vinci and the ATS Everest.

Intergalactic Relations[]

MCAMeetingThingie

Expansion is attained by diplomacy, not by the military.

- President Elethien

The Allied Terran Republic pursues an expansionist though diplomatically inclined foreign policy which primarily aims to promote peaceful relations with alien civilisations as well as to prevent the outbreak of violence within its sphere of influence. The most important alliances to the government of the Terran Republic include the other members of the Civilisation, including the Delpha Coalition of Planets and the Defensive Systems Bloc while important extragalactic relations are largely influenced by Terran membership in the Mou'Cyran Accords, which has served to vastly improve Terran standing in the Cyrandia Cluster in particular, leading to a strong friendship developing between the similar New Cyrannian Republic, a civilisation which many Terran detractors claim is slowly and perhaps insidiously engulfing the Terran Republic into its sphere of influence. However, these claims are offset by the shaky, though still strong military alliance between the Terrans in the Cyrannus Galaxy and the Galactic Empire of Cyrannus, the dominant power in the Cyrandia Cluster and the main rival to the New Republic.

Nevertheless, the Terran Republic is a Gigaquadrantic juggernaut in its own right, having colonial holdings in most Gigaquadrantic galaxies, including the only human spheres of influence in Cyrannus and Borealis. Typically, upon colonising a new galaxy, Terran diplomats will begin to establish ties with the main galactic power, whether it be the Polar Crystal Alliance in Borealis or Rambo Nation in the Quadrants, ensuring that these colonial sectors are given the chance to grow prosperous without fear of annexation by a native civilisation. Though this policy has served the Terran government well, in Cyrannus, this did not stop Terran colonies from falling prey to the Neraida Gigamatrix and the Cognatus Empire, though membership in the Mou'Cyran Accords has significantly decreased the frequency and cost of such attacks.
