Strange are these beings. Eternally travelling...Yet what for and why? I cannot imagine why any race would need to abandon their worlds.

- Unknown Walgolorian

Nithasaar are a psychic race of aliens within the Mendel Pact, noted for their being totally bound to their ships, and their high psychic powers. Rarely seen by other races, the Nithasaar are traveled the galaxy, and traded with various races over the years, including the Togunda and other races within the UAE. Weak of body, and sluggish, the Nithasaar are incapable of fielding ground forces of any kind, and provide to the Pact their fleet forces and trading abilities. Even these ships are rather weak, and limited to scouting and recon.

Nithasaar themselves are a naturally private, patient race, who are none the less insatiably curious of the universe around them and seek out others for trade and contact. The Nithasaar have long been under the protection of the Pact, but do not seem to care much for it. The Nithasaar are said to come from the Western Sphere of the galaxy.

History[]

Contact[]

Nothing is known of the Nithasaar, other then they appeared at the edge of a newly established Walgolorian colony with a large fleet. Alarmed, a fleet of their own was dispatched to investigate the newcomers, though Walgolorian Commanders quickly ascertained that the Nithasaar had inferior weapon systems then the Walgolorian ships, as their crude plasma could not cut into the larger ships. Contacting the Nithasaar leader, the Walgolorian Commander asked for the Nithasaar to stop firing, and to accept a Walgolorian delegation into their premise.

The Nithasaar accepted, and the Walgolorian came in, meeting with the Nithasaar fleet leader, and speaking with him for a long time. Finally, the two agreed that the Nithasaar fleets would join with the Walgolorian in their believe in the Abiding Truth, and become members of their newly formed Dominion. Happy as ever, the diplomats contacted the leaders of the Empire and informed them of the new race that had joined them. In order to help with the Dominion's spread, the Nithasaar donated their fleet-nations to the cause, their old Plasma guns retrofitted with new Railgun emplacements.

These Nithasaar ships became good scout ships and support vessels, and increased the expansion of efforts of the Walgolorian forces. Though the formation of the Mendel Pact brought them into contact with new races, the Nithasaar do not seem to care, going about the same task they have been for many years; expand the empire, contact new races and conduct trade with others.

The Nithasaar may come from the Eastern Sphere of the Galaxy, or at least be able to travel there. They have come into the borders of the Tairex Trade Hegemony, but are largely separate from each other. While both Pact and Hegemony have made upgrades to their ships and all, the two Nithasaar seem to not really give much sign to their allies beyond some mild thanks.

Traits[]

Culture[]

The Nithasaar are an incredibly private, patient race, who, while not unwelcoming towards outside races, are considered rather silent and private, only telling outsiders what they ask for, nothing more and nothing less. This direct way of speaking allowed them to quickly work out an agreement with the Walgolorian, but has made contact with others moderate at best. Though other races regard them as excellent merchants and traders, especially the Togunda, many still admit the Nithasaar's cold demeanor and lack of facial expressions leave them unnerved.

What else makes up Nithasaar society, is completely unknown. Togunda merchants speak of Nithasaar ships sighted in the western galaxy in their travels, though never made contact with them at that point.

Biology[]

Nithasaar are genetically related to squids and other cephalopods, though are noted for having arms, though with small bones, and tentacles instead of legs. They do not, however, ever touch the ground, using their abilities to suspend themselves in midair. For this reason, they have trouble in high gravity, and need to remain zero-g environments to survive. Their metabolisms are incredibly slow, allowing them to years without eating, and gives them some of the longest life spans in the Pact.

Religion[]

Nothing is known about the Nithasaar's religious believes.

Behavior[]

Nithasaar are private, isolated beings, preferring to live by themselves then with others. While expert at trading and as merchants, they are not welcoming to newcomers. Despite this private nature, they are not xenophobic and regard others like the Walgolorian as helpful and true allies to the last. The Nithasaar are very family focused, organized in Clans, each Clan living on a ship, and Clans coming together into nation fleets to fight and travel together. The Walgolorian know little of what goes on among the Nithasaar, due to their private nature.

Military Usage[]

The Nithasaar have few roles in the military of the Mendel Pact. They are too large and fragile to be used as ground forces, and have little strength at arms. Their fleets are their main contribution, but even these are not main ships of the line that can handle extended combat. Their role is recon and support, attacking enemy flanks as the Walgolorian/Mendel fleets bound the center line. Though they do not seem aggressive or quick-thinking, when in battle, a Nithasaar captain and his crew pool their energies into destroying their enemies until the white flag is given or they are dust upon the solar winds. While their ships do not have many weapons, the Nithasaar all pilot them with greater skill then one would expect.

Nithasaar are never seen on the ground, though Walgolorian have noted an number of strange psychic abilities that they can call upon. The Nithasaar, for whatever reason, never use these in combat in any form, unless boarded and have no other option to call upon in battle. Indeed, if there is a risk of being boarded, the Nithasaar will withdraw to a safe distance, though notably do not retreat, unless ordered to by the Mendel Fleets.
