Valtaris Cao'ili was a male Draken that served in the New Republic fleet. Cao'ili had quite a history in the armed forces of the democratic governments of the Cyrandia Cluster. He served with distinction alongside Admiral Willelmus Cretacea during the final stages of the Trucinex War, commanding two frigates that helped the Admiral while he killed the Nex Prophet. After the conflict, Cao'ili retired and settled on Surdana, his homeworld. However, during the Intergalactic War, he was approached by Admiral Cretacea, who convinced him to help formulate tactics to use against the Cognatus.

After the Intergalactic War, he returned to retirement, though he returned to battle during the Great Cyrannus War, where he commanded the Maximus, a Legacy-class Star Destroyer. When the Dark Times began, Cao'ili refused to serve the ew Galactic Empire of Cyrannus, though was ultimately convinced to return to a military career when the New Republic was formed.

Though the original Maximus was destroyed in the final conflict of the Great War, Cao'ili gained command over the C.R.S. Maximus-A, a newly commissioned Legacy-class, in honour of his fallen ship. Critically injured during the Mou'Cyran Cataclysm, Valtaris spent much of the opening stages of the Second Great Cyrannus War recuperating, returning to active duty in 16 NE. During the Battle of Apailiana, Valtaris sacrificed himself to save Paya Naberrae from Grand Mandator Deoclet Caesarius, becoming an honoured hero of the Republic.

Biography[]

Admiral Cao'li was born on the Draken homeworld of Surdana, a peaceful planet within the borders of the Capricorn Sector Alliance. When he was a young adult, he graduated from the Sector Alliance academy on Scorpiae, and worked his way up the ranks until he became a top admiral within the CSA Navy. Because of this, he was picked by Sector Command to lead the final attack on the Trucinex Imperium, during the Trucinex War. Admiral Cao'ili led this assault with the C.S.S. Freedom and hundreds of destroyers and frigates on the Trucinex Holy City, while his friend Admiral Cretacea destroyed the shield generator protecting the city.

After Cretacea completed this task, Cao'ili commanded the Frigates to bombard the city, prompting the Nex Prophet, the leader of the Imperium to escape. However, Cretacea tacked down the Nex Prophet and killed him, ending the war. After the conflict, Cao'ili retired and settled on Surdana, his homeworld. However, during the Intergalactic War, he was approached by Admiral Cretacea, who convinced him to help think of tactics to use against the Cognatus. After the Intergalactic War, he returned to retirement. However, during the early stages of the Great Cyrannus War, he was asked to return to the Republic Navy and command a starship. Though he couldn't decide whether to accept, he was convinced by his friend Cretacea, and Republic Command awarded him the Maximus, a new Legacy-class Star Destroyer, which he commanded for the duration of the conflict.

Refusing to serve the Empire, Valtaris ultimately joined the New Cyrannian Republic, and was recommissioned as an Admiral in command of the Maximus-A, in honour of the original Maximus, destroyed during the Battle of Orbispira. Assigned to command the Third Mou'Cyran Defence Fleet, Valtaris was gravely injured during the Cataclysm, when a chunk of planetary debris smashed into the Maximus. However, the ship managed to escape the doom, and Valtaris spent most the next few months recovering.

During the Battle of Apailiana, during the subsequent Second Great Cyrannus War, Valtaris commanded the defence fleet against Grand Admiral Deoclet Caesarius. Hopelessly outmatched, Valtaris struggled to defend a diplomatic convoy as it fled to safety, and sacrificed his life and his ship by ramming into an Imperial Interdictor cruiser, commanded by Kendar Bozzel, successfully allowing them to escape.

Personality and Traits[]

Valtaris was a caring and effective commanding officer, who commanded the crewmembers of the Maximus with a sense of fairplay and informality. As a veteren of conflicts ranging from the Trucinex War to the Second Great Cyrannus War, Cao'ili grew to deplore violence, and yet, even when the conflagration of galactic war seemed destined to forever define the future of the galaxy, he never once abandoned his commitment to Republic, nor the democratic ideals upon which it was established. Such was his conviction in this regard, that he sacrificed his own life to save a group of young Republic diplomats, believing that it was within his duty to do so.
